Counter: Duchene + Jost for Bennett + Kylington

There is a deal to be done with COL and CGY, they have spare pieces and want different things

Maybe Kylington + Andersson (partners on Stockton Flames and Team Sweden) for... MacKinnon + pick
I was initially thinking Kylington+Andersson+Bennett for MacKinnon + Jost

Bennett + Lazar + Kylington
Duchene + Jost + 2nd

Not sure Calgary does it with Duchene instead of McKinnon. Maybe if COL sends Duchene + Jost + 2nd + 3rd/4th, Calgary can throw in Freddie Hamilton if need be

Lmao Mackinnon and jost? No. No. No way Colorado does this Mackinnon is there future and soon will be in elite company. I've watched jost play when he was playing for my hometown and he's a special player can play any position and still excelles and learns so that's not going to happen you'd have to offer big to land Mackinnon

Look, Duchene walks in one year. Bennett is what, 5 years younger.
Lazar and Jost are not that far apart yet.
So CGY locks in 2 upgrades today. COL takes on uncertainty -- which is fine, they still have 2 top 6 Cs of their own that they trust, that they can count on.
Kylington is going to be worth a lot, and you will probably never hear him traded from Calgary. He's worth more than a 2nd round pick. He's worth more than a top 5 1st round pick, because he's proven out and on track. Think of Kylington + Andersson as Pietrangelo + Bouwmeester.

You might very well be upset, but it's not from this trade offer. Let it sit and come back to it

edit: Sorry for mixing the 3 proposals around and mentioning Lazar when you responded to Bennett + Kylington.
fwiw I think Kylington and Andersson are worth more as a pair given all the minutes they've played. They're the same age and their game complements each other. If it makes you reconsider, they were at times expected to go much much earlier in the draft.

Kylington + Andersson + Bennett for a great Top 6 C and futures in return (CGY has traded 6 out of their next 14 draft picks) would be what's needed in return. Keep in mind there is a bit of a gap in CGY's D depth going forward losing their top 2 prospects, they have played Bartowski and Russell to get through it already.

I'll also add, for all the hype given to CAR's D corp -- Faulk, Hanifin don't show up as good defenders in the types of shots they give up. They artificially look better with offense numbers that get recorded and seen, while the one aspect of their game that a F or G can't replace is their biggest weakness and forgotten because no one watches Carolina.

You can't say the guy is worth a top 5 pick when he hasn't even cracked the roster. Yes he's very good but is he dougie Hamilton good? No and Calgary gave up a first for him and it was t even TOP 5 Haha come on man lazar is a lost cause and jost is already looking a lot better then him

Hasn't cracked the roster. I am of the opinion that Kylington and Andersson could play, but CGY just did the smart thing and let them develop by playing top minutes. I am absolutely confident they are NHL top 4, and maybe NHL top pair.

All good deals hurt both sides. If I had to guess, I would say the instinctual reaction was feeling the hurt of Duchene/Jost who have been seen in the NHL vs. "For who?!"
I think GMs with a scouting team to lean on would take a different view, and I think the structure of a bigger deal like I proposed is the one thing that works for Colorado.

Duchene isn't the problem in Colorado, but they have to trade him or trade Mackinnon because they can't commit to both and they can't afford to let another star walk like Stastny. They have no excuses at a time like this where they are stuck in the basement and not even drafting 1st overall anymore due to the new rules. They aren't going to be getting one of the half dozen #1D stars -- they're not available, or they won't be around long enough to see the rebuild through. There's no team out there that has a pairing of young NHL ready D like Calgary; they're one step above Manson and Montour who were 24 and 22 year old nobodies of Anaheim before last season.

Uh, I don't think the Flames need to worry about future depth on D considering this is who we have now and on the horizon...

Kylington
Andersson
Valimaki
Fox
Kulak
Wotherspoon
Bartkowski

Any one of the names on this list have appeal to not only the Flames, but just about any team in the league. Each one brings something that a team could use or need.
So using the 2 guys at top of the list makes perfect sense in trade talks.

Yeah, but it's like Colorado trading Duchene and Jost, wonering how Compher and Grimaldi are going to replace them. They have good enough bodies, they still have other top end guys and won't miss Duchene/Jost.

With or without Kylington+Andersson, Gio+Hamilton will be the top pair and they will play 30 minutes a night while the 3rd pair does closer to 10. CGY can deal with an average 3rd pairing, no worse than available on the UFA market, and draft/develop another Kylington+Andersson in time.

The point isn't to collect players according to individual scoring, the point is to use a constellation of players that get the most wins. 2 young good D would be transformative for Colorado and they've proven more scoring up front changes nothing -- exact same situation in Edmonton btw.

Ok Kylington and Anderson for Duchene in Jost... but you also have to include Monahan and Hamilton for Siemens and Soderberg.

Siemens is a big bodied 11th overall pick stud Dman and Soderberg is an elite middle six center with size.

Very easy to talk guys up. Your not getting Jost or Duchene for that.
