Leafs get AA, Pysyk

Created by: NR1203
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 5, 2017
Published: Sep. 7, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Psysk comes in to give the Leafs depth. After this season, the Leafs can maybe give Lilegren a shot at beating out Hainsey or Carrick for an opening day job. Meanwhile trading Leo opens up a spot for Kapanen.

Trading Martin in the AA deal opens up the spot that is taken by AA. I could have given AA an offer sheet but Detroit would have matched (considering the compensation for a 3.5 million salary is only a 2nd), so I gave up the extra 2nd to ensure TOR gets him.

How do you figure he gets matched? The reason they haven't signed him is because of the long term cap issues that they face, isn't it?

Edit: Also, I don't see the point in trading Martin. It just doesn't work for the Leafs and he's a mentor off the ice for the youngsters. I also dont' see the point in grabbing a young RHD. We have young RHD's, we need a veteran for the next year or two to help Liljegren transition, and I believe that's what the Leafs management was talking about when they were saying about getting 3rd pairing help

That may too much to trade for AA, (he's not worth 3.5m) especially when you have him placed at 5th line centre. Admitting next year with Bozak and Moore gone, he might be a good fit. You called Psysck "depth", no he's a starting NHL Dman., and worth a lot more than an AHLer and one year of Komarov..
