leafs would take the deal but not sure about the canes. kapanen replaces jvr, so it is a short term downgrade for the leafs. and bean has potential. watching him in the whl , the upside is he replaces gardiner in a few years.

That's an interesting trade. I've thought the leafs should trade JVR for years as boy can he shoot but he cannot play with the puck on his stick. Would the Canes trade bean?

I think that Bean and any number of Carolina's young D, are all very talented. But, I only see Leafs moving JVR for immediate help and to strengthen an area of weakness. Yes we have exceptional depth on the wings, but one of our strengths, is also depth on the LD, albeit (similar to Bean) likely a year away. When you look at Dermott, Nielsen, Borgman, and Rosen, all project out as a roster player, and likely top 4 in 2 years or less.
