Team: 2017-18 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 11, 2017
Published: Sep. 11, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fabbro plays another season of college hockey, McLeod another year of juniors, and McNiven spends the season as an AHL starter. This team comes to life in 2019-2020 season with Cale Makar and a high 2018 1st round pick (likely top 5) as well.

I'd also look to trade Barrie after the season for a young, comparable LHD (since Fabbro and Makar will make up the right side in the top 4 for the future).

Future long-term lines:
Landeskog - Mackinnon - Rantanen
Fiala - Mcleod - Andrighetto
Wilson - Compher - Jost
Nieto - x - x

LHD (Barrie trade) - Makar
Zadorov - Fabbro
Lindholm/Mironov - Bigras

Well, none of the trades are bang on, but the concept is pretty good. Rather than pick on trades one way or the other, you deserve credit for having an overall plan that would probably work. A pick here or there, or having a different trading partner would solve the small stuff.

This concept is going in the right direction.

What pheasant said basically. Credit for a plan/idea that goes in the right direction if the details aren't spot on.

Hahah to be totally honest I'm a Ducks fan so I don't know the Avs amazingly well, so I definitely expected some details to be off. Where exactly do you guys see this coming up short on the details? I'll give my thoughts:

Nashville:
They see the window open and will want to pull the trigger. Duchene is a huge bonus over Fiala now, and likely even over Fiala in his prime. The extra piece to level that out is a promising young dman. I could see how maybe this would be an overpayment, which is why the retained salary was included, though a pick as well may be fair.

New Jersey:
The team now has 3 solid young centers coming up in Hischier, Zacha, and Mcleod. Mcleod is the least promising of the 3 studs, and they are absolutely desperate for defense, so I figured they could pull something like Mcleod for former 1st overall pick Erik Johnson.

Montreal:
They need more scoring ability, and center is their weakest position. I know they need a #1 center and not depth necessarily, but they just don't have the attractive pieces to justify Duchene going there, however Soderberg back as his consistent 47 point self would still help, and in addition to taking on Plekanec's $6m it seemed like enough to compensate a goalie prospect considering they typically have lower value, and Price is already locked up for so much term that he'd never see the light of day anyways.
