Some Caps fans want to dump Orpik. He was top ten in the league last year in hits and plus/minus. He played almost eighteen minutes a night. Vegas only has four guys who played over seventeen minutes a night last year, one of whom, Theodore, is likely to get squeezed to the AHL until injuries make space, so Orpik has immediate, on-ice value to Vegas as a top-four defenseman. Has been an alternate captain with two really good teams. Already knows MAF and Engelland from Pittsburgh, and played most of last season with Schmidt in Washington. Washington has two holes on defense and two at forward, but, admittedly, their defensive prospect pool is deeper and closer to ready than most of their forwards. I think the Caps would be especially interested in Miller because, while both Washington and VGK currently have more left handed guys than right handed guys, Washington is in more of a position to care this year. Otherwise, any one or two of McNabb, Merrill, Karlsson or Marchessault could fit in the Caps' salary structure this year (in ascending order of how high a draft pick Washington has to throw in to get Vegas to part with them. I made a roster above this. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
