GM Game 2017-2018: Montreal Canadiens

Created by: ricochetii
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2017
Published: Sep. 15, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Win now mode.

Status: Looking for depth improvements and futures.
I'm listening to anything, but main roster is pretty much set, so offer accordingly.

---------- Available -----------
Schlemko - 3rd/4th or equivalent prospect
Morrow - 6th/7th round prospect, prefer RW/RHD

Offers should include futures without having a negative impact on my roster. (ie: if you want Benn I'd expect a RHD that helps me now as well as a pick or a prospect).
If prices are high it is because I have no NEED to move anyone.

Players currently in the minors are negotiable (view Capfriendly team list: https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/canadiens)

------------ Wants -------------
- Missing picks
- The last 5 years back

----------- Directives ------------
- Build a contender
- Manage cap
- Restock picks

** Ignore lines and roster set up. I'll be playing with it a lot. **

----- Player Rights -------
F: Naatinen Pezzetta Cates Vejdemo Ikonen Trunev Friberg
D: Koberstein Staum Henrikson Tyszka Walford Fleury Brook
G: Hawkey

----- Notes -----
I own the 2nd (WSH - 2018) from the conditional picks in the Drouin/Sergachev trade.

RICO.. want to continue our Barberio talks?

I also had something else in mind that would benefit the both of us.

Mete ended up staying with the team, but I'd still be interested in Barberio as a depth option if the price is right.

                    Price on Lehkonen?

I'd want at least a 20 goal scorer. Perhaps someone offensive who makes me better now vs. Lehkonen's potential and all around game.

I think the Price is right wink

We couldnt agree to anything with Barberio because both are unwilling to give picks. I mentioned if you wanted Grimaldi (1yr x 750k RFA waiver eligible) as well.

My other idea was this: Comeau (1yr x 2.4mill UFA) for Mitchell + Hemsky? Something along those lines. Basically, you drop a contract but pick up 2 mill extra for arguably a better player as of right now. We can work around all of this.

                    Thoughts?

Possibly. I like Frolik and he's been fairly consistent the last few seasons. He's not a 20 goal scorer though. What do you have in mind?

How bout this: Comeau + Barberio for Hemsky + Audette + 2019 7th?

I'm going to have to pass on anything with Lehkonen and Frolik as the main pieces I think.
Stone has no interest for me. I can't move Plekanec for someone who has term. I need some of that $6M off the books next season, if not all of it.

Barberio + _____ for Hemsky + Audette is more what I had in mind. Can you fill in the blank with a serviceable AHL'er? (Someone I don't need to put through waivers that makes less than $1M)
I can't justify dropping more picks for something minor, even if it is a late pick. Similarly, I can use the cap space better on something better than Comeau. I also can't take on 2 NHL'ers if I'm moving 1 NHL'er. I don't have an extra roster spot.

Barberio + Gabriel Bourque for Hemsky + Audette?

Or if you want to insert Tanev on his shooting side (4LW), I could do Barberio + Comeau + Bourque + Trent Vogelhuber for Hemsky + Hartnell + Mitchell + Audette?

Gives u a better option on the 4RW and 4LW, all whilst clearing cap space and roster space.

First idea sounds good. (I prefer to keep Hartnell and Mitchell's a good player to have for versatility in the playoffs if I can't get a decent pick for him.)

                    Montreal Canadiens (ricochetii)
                    Mark Barberio
                    Gabriel Bourque

                    Colorado Avalanche (Mr_cap)
                    Ales Hemsky
                    Daniel Audette

If that sounds good to you, it works for me. (Provided I don't have to put Bourque on waivers?)

Yeah. As long as he's already passed through waivers I can send him straight to Laval.

Small potatoes but would you consider swapping Joni Ikonen for Gustav Lindstrom? Also, if you do decide to target a 2RW, Nyquist may be a good fit. Asking for a top prospect or mid-prospect+pick and can possibly take on a bad contract (or make it a bigger trade to fit)

No thanks, I'd rather keep Ikonen. Nyquist is a possibility, but nowhere near the top of my list. He'd need to pick up his production in order to be an upgrade on Shaw. Maybe later in the season if I'm still looking.

                    I'd consider moving him for a 2nd.

Would you do a 3rd round pick for him?

No thanks. I prefer Shaw to Frolik right now.

No benefit for me to trade a promising player for what it cost me to get him.

Not that I can see. Have someone you think I'd like?
Difference between a 2nd and 3rd could be the difference between renting a 2nd or 3rd liner at the deadline, which is what I'm hoping for.
