Krug is better than Phaneuf but that doesn't make him a top pairing guy. I don't just want an improvement over Phaneuf. It would need to be an actual top pairing guy. Especially cause he'd take up an extra spot in the lineup.

He wouldnt be an improvement over Phaneuf, he would be an improvement over Oduya/Chiasson[/quote]

I believe you mean Claesson, correct?
Anyway, if he's not an improvement over Phaneuf why would i want him?

So Rangers... Don't be mad... Offered a 1st + prospect (thinking like Chlapik or another B-level guy) + Phaneuf for OEL... Offer was to Anaheim, hope he bites

Do you realize how ridiculous this is?

I'm offering you a really top prospect, another good prospect, a current NHL d-man, and a pick. That's not ridiculous.

Except it is, because you didn't even offer me a pick, Boroweicki is garbage, and the prospects are basically 3C potential. So yes, it's ridiculous

Chabot is Ottawa's next Top LHD... White/Brown are the centers for the future... Chlapik looks to be Top 6, Boro is a pylon, we could work around something with one of Brown/White + 1st... Losing Chabot is too much I think

Josi is one of the elite defenseman in the league and on arguably the best value contract in the league (Kuch is the only one you could say is better). If I'm not getting Chabot back, it's not happening.

for LHD he is def up there... Likely goes Hedman then Josi... the 1st will be high because Dorion is stupid and overpaid by 60 x to get Duchene... White + potentially Dahlin/Merkley/Other Top Tier Draftee looks pretty enticing no... could add something else potentially as well... or we change gears and talk Ekholm

We're basing draft order on win-now ability, so the first certainly won't be a top 5 pick or something. White + a first for Ekholm is a helluva lot more reasonable than for Josi.

Essentially same roster, minus Turris, add Duchene... likely still bottom 5 in the league... We could work around a lesser prospect + that 1st OR White + lesser pick OR White + 1st for Ekholm + mid round pick (thinking 3rd)

I'm staying pretty firm on this. Ekholm is a top pairing defenseman with his defensive abilities alone. He's been showing some real offensive talent this season too, which only drives up his value.

The 3-way deal between Nashville, Ottawa and Colorado IRL almost fell through because Nashville wasn't going to move Ekholm for Turris. Considering that Turris then went for a 2nd, Kamenev and Girard, I'd say that a first + White for Ekholm is quite reasonable.

I mean that deal was what was supposed to be a weak 2nd (maybe 50th overall) + 2 B prospects... Strong 1st + A prospect seems off in value to me...

A defenseman on pace for 51 points that provides elite shot suppression and is logging 25 minutes a night...sounds like a true #1 defenseman to me.

Not to mention that this 2018 1st is going to lose a lot of value if you acquire Ekholm, as that makes your team much better than it is already. At best, that pick is in the mid-teens with Ekholm.

So my ideas here Rangers are we get a true 1LHD, Ekholm can be that guy, we bring Chabot up and run him with Phaneuf on the 2nd pair. Try and trade Ceci with a forward for an improved forward at that position and rock out with Claesson and 1 of Boro/Oduya, Wideman on the 3rd pair and sit 1 of Boro/Oduya as a 7th defender

I've been talking with some fine folks

White + 1st for Ekholm. Best value contract for a defenseman by far. Can play 25 mins a night and is rather solid defensively. Sure we lose White and the first, but we need to think long term to sign Stone, Turris, Erik Karlsson. We should also figure out who stays and who goes

2nd trade in works. Phaneuf + 1st + B Prospect for OEL. OEL would be a stellar partner for Karlsson

3rd trade in works. Brassard for Zacha and Bouwmeester. Sure we eat Bouwmeesters 5.4M for 2 years but we can rock out with Turris, Pageau, Zacha down the middle and that 5.4 frees up for when EK needs a new contract

Isn't it amazing what happens when you get some actual planning happening. Jmac has been back for a couple hours and there's already a 3 year plan in place practically. Stick taps, my friend.
