Description
I'm a poet and didn't know it.

The reasoning from the Pittsburgh perspective is that they have enough wingers that can step and play but they have been successful with 4 good centers that can all contribute offensively and on special teams, they are not at their best when defending so its better to sell out on their strength, Sheahan is good defensively and PK but doesn't add to the attack, they also need a more capable 2nd PP center.

From EDM's point of view, they need cost certainty and control going forward as well as capable low cost players down the middle. Hags provides speed to keep up with 97, he is signed for 1 more season, he also is a "winner" has experience guy that Chiarelli likes, Adam Johnson is a capable top 9 forward on his ELC. Cole is there more to make it work for PIT but he is also a responsible blue liner, and has "Jam". The picks will also provide cheap ELC players to keep EDM going. I will also do this from EDMs side.

I don't know why Oilers fans seem to think Nugent-Hopkins is so valuable. He's a slightly below average 2nd line centre.

Was it not Hanzal nearly 7 months ago that was traded for a mid 1st and 2nd as rental? Here's the difference Nuge is signed long term. So how is this value far off to reality? Cole valued at a 2nd rounder while Hagelin is in the same range as a 3rd rounder while Nuge who is younger is probably worth a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd easily.

Did you actually say that Ryan Nugent Hopkins is worth a 1, 2 and 3 round draft pick? the term of his contract doesnt add value, it takes away.

Id say he is an average 2C, He is better offensively and weaker on D. He is weaker at D compared to the 2nd line archetype, but still better than Bonino was. He is slightly below where Staal was in 2011-2012 Defensively but about equal offensively. As for the cost Centers have a highly inflated value right now and Cole and Hags are necessary from PITs standpoint to make the deal work.

I like and think its fair for a 3rd line C that is overpaid but still think Edmonton will want something to help them now too ... ie a Sheary or Rust? But wouldnt want to trade either of them

Id say that Hags, Johnson, and Cole help them now. Id think they would take Rust as a cost control, but Sheary has 3yrs left and his hit will put them too close to the cap when it comes time to resign Yamamoto.
