Maybe I am naive...but seems more plausible that Habs not taking Wright

I think it's being debated so loudly solely because it's Montreal. Even in the uncertain 2017 draft of Patrick/Hischier there wasn't as much chatter about it and Patrick actually had a 100 points season to be worthy of that discussion, Salf's got 10 points in Liiga so outside of his world showcases he hasn't proved much. Montreal fan base's always bringing it to the next step, when was the last time a team that was lucky enough to win the lottery started talking about what they'd have to give to get the number two pick in the draft? Wright the correct choice to take and even if with hindsight he isn't the best one out this draft it's the correct choice to make today cause he offers the safest floor and the best odds at becoming a core piece of the picking team.

For most the the pre-draft season in 2016-17, Patrick was the consensus #1.

So using this example Wright = Patrick, Slafkovsky = Hischier (not a perfect apples to apples, but there are a lot of similarities between Wright and Patrick).

I'm not comparing the players ... Just taking this draft year as an example or the number one not being miles away from the second guy up.
