this team is so terrifying
I'm curious what they do with the power play units. I think if Trocheck is not on either unit, he will be on the 1st PK unit with Motte. And then I would have Goodrow and Vesey. Kreids and Mika only on if they need a goal.

Pretty sure he is going to be a lot cheaper than that. I think they are predicting 2nd rd pick (maybe conditional?) and like Zac Jones.

Yeah I think that's more likely, which is less than I thought they would have paid for him earlier in the year.

So we create a hole on LW to temporarily fill a RW spot? We also get softer for the playoffs? Just really doesn't make sense.

Thread:
They have the cap space to do it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I know you have. But, this entire narrative is coming out of NY and Rangers fans. It's all the casuals coming out of the woodworks at deadline time, that will just disappear for the rest of the year. It was provoked by a writer from a small Isles publication, probably to troll Rangers fans, and Pierre Lebrun speculating on things with no actual facts to back it up. Offering a late 2nd and scraps for Kaner under any conditions is straight up disrespectful, and accepting that is even worse. Kaner has not made any decision and his agent has listed a handful of interested teams. If they take a 2nd for him, there better be at least one very good prospect coming back. Kravstov and Leschyshyn are essentially value-less scraps.
They are just pivoting to a new narrative because Kane proved them all wrong. Notice how most of the talk about his hip has silenced since he went and (almost) single handedly won 5 games in a row for CHI? Everyone just wants something for nothing and they'll say anything to support that narrative. He has earned the right to make a decision on his future, but he has no right to hamstring CHI and expect them to take it up the rear to make it happen. There are plenty of other players they could trade away to help CHI get back to the bottom of the standings if that is the most important thing.</div></div>
As a Rangers fan, I agree 100% that he should obtain more, at least a 1st. I still will be surprised if they can even make it work cap-wise, however they did only play with 11 fwds last night to seep Krav and Lesh out of the line up for "trade reasons" so something seems to be coming. My prediction is that Kane just stays put at this point. Although it would make for a very interesting playoffs if they got Kane, I just think there are too many moving pieces to actually make it work. I would prefer not to give up another 1st rd pick for anyone at this point.

Almost there
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>Not sure what Drury's been asking- but so far no bites on Krav. Most teams are probably spooked by the possibility of him going back to the KHL next year. Shame of it is that NYR did everything possible to devalue their player. For sure he needs to continue development- and his offensive production was a disappointment- but he's surprisingly sound defensively and he's not hurting the team when he's on the ice. So it's a real head scratcher that they insist on playing guys like Lesch (0 pts in 35 games) and Blais (when he was here- 0 goals as a Ranger). And Vesey has been OK...but if he was that good playing up they wouldn't be looking to make another deal...reality is he is a 4th liner.</div></div>
Yeah I think they should have just kept him in the line up. Like you said, he can't be any worse than Blais or Lesh for us at this point. I think what is frustrating for me is that if he just played ball early on (Kravtsov) and got more acclimated to North American ice, he could be really good. I still think they get something for him.

Options for the final piece
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>I am going with none of the above.
If I am Drury, I am looking for a depth D..... Harpur as a #7 works, but if the Rangers are going on a run, I would suggest funding a #7-8 is more in the cards. The forward depth is simply there.
Adding a Holden, circle back to Braun, kick a tire on Jack Johnson. That would be my next move.
The offense in New York is what teams are responding to. Leafs answered that call. The Canes are looking to answer that call.
Adding to the D at this point makes more sense.</div></div>
The playoffs are definitely a marathon. I still think the fwd player is a higher need. Last year, if they had a little bit better depth and did not have to force Strome to play injured, they may have beaten Tampa. I worry what could happen with any minor injury in the fwd group. I guess you could say the same with the defense, but I think Harper is just as good as Braun and better than Jack Johnson.

I do not think Kane is worth it. I worry about a few things with acquiring him: the actual cost (1st rd pick + other smaller pieces), his health, and the lack of grit/style of play needed for the playoffs. Jeannot is definitely the guy I would want. I could see either one of the Arizona players or Lafferty (I think someone may over pay for him). I agree with Domi and Barbashev as I think someone will overpay for them as well.

How far can the rangers go
I mean I think they would definitely be within the top 4 with that trade, likely only behind Boston with this trade. Without Kane, I still think they are contenders as they could theoretically beat anybody. I would like them to try and just get a slightly better 4th line center/winger and then be done. Don't want to see them continuously salvage the future by trading all of their 1st-2nd rd picks.

Yeah saw that too. I would think a 2nd gets it done right?? Unless they just are not going to move him. He may be more expensive due to his RFA status this off season however that could allow them to flip him if they can't resign him. I really think that could be the last piece that really makes this team strong!
