Calgary Flames signed Nikita Zadorov (1 Year / $3,750,000 AAV)
It's finally time for Z to put up or shut up. He has been riding the RFA status for a few years now but won't have that luxury any longer. Someone will always overpay for a guy his size, so he's in no danger of not having a job. But he'll be getting paid a lot less next year unless he finally puts it all together.
I've always liked the dude, so I'm pulling for him. We'll see though.

Leafs-Canucks Big Swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Austerity</b></div><div>Canucks win this going away. Top 5 point producer in league, Leafs (arguable) #1 defenseman, and a cost-controlled winger entering his prime versus Boeser (underrated player), Myers (bottom pairing D at 6 mill), and Miller (excellent top 6 Offensive forward).</div></div>
I bet on Jake Muzzin being they’re best defensemen but it does go one of two ways

I came here to specifically ask where Wayne Train was! like not just ask where Simmonds was, I was overly excited to use the name Wayne Train. Oh well I'm almost equally happy that you beat me to it!

How long before this becomes a Clarkson/Lucic/Neal type contract?
My guess is 2 years

Dubas on the hot seat
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Austerity</b></div><div>Don't think that's enough money for Galchenyuk nor Haula but I like those acquisitions, as well as the idea of getting someone like Lomberg. I don't really think trading Engvall is much of an option though, given that he's a replacement level player making more than league minimum, even if he's an RFA upon contract expiration.
Ullmark contract seems fair but he may be looking for a true starter's role. We'll see.
Not really a fan of Domi, I think he gets a lot out of having good press upon his entrance to the league and during the Galchenyuk trade, but I think he gives up a lot on defense and doesn't push the needle for forechecking, penalty differential, or finishing talent.</div></div>
I can see Galchenyuk signing for around that on a multiyear deal, as he gets security and it lowers the AAV. Haula is a decent 3C option, and for a team close to the cap, it makes a ton of sense. Trading for Domi would be risky, and if he is injured for a chunk of the season, I wonder if Dubas pulls some cap shenanigans and almost uses Domi as a free TDL acquistion. Mcginn seems like he will get a contract similar to Jesper Fast did last season from the Hurricanes nonetheless. Seems like the type of player the Leafs can use in the bottom 6. Lomberg and Engvall is almost a wash. I also like Ullmark as a tandem goalie with Campbell.

Ullmark will be looking for a starters job not backup. And Domi is out until at least January after his surgery.

This is fair. Dermott is a reliable third paring defenseman with a potential upside to improve.
Depending on how Toronto does it's protection he could be off to Seattle though.

For value wise yeah but we’d have no need for Reilly as we’re rebuilding.

Adding 5 new roster players that have to quarantine for two weeks with very little time left in the season is a bad idea.

Tippett's got some weird lack of accountability with some of Edmonton's pricier veterans this season. Ennis absolutely needs to be better, but reality is Edmonton's entire bottom six has been trash to start the season again.</div></div>
I’d would rather see what we have in Anderson/Barabanov before we claim anyone. Engvall also needs more mins. Unless Dubas trades for a more impactful forward, we have internal options

Ennis went pointless in four games to start the season while averaging 9:47 of ice time per contest. His underlying numbers were poor as well as the Oilers controlled just 38% of the shot attempts and 31.3% of the expected goals when Ennis was on the ice at five-on-five, according to Natural Stat Trick.</div></div>

Give Robertson a shot against Ottawa please
I'm not saying that Ottawa is going to beat the Leafs or anything like that, but going against the grain in the second but the second game of the season, in which you had no pre-season games, isn't the time to start juggling lines. I also wouldn't take this game as a "Gimme".
If Robertson makes the lineup better, then yes, he should be in it, but he should be playing full-time. If not, let him develop.

Pittsburgh Penguins signed John Marino (6 Years / $4,400,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KubaH</b></div><div>This is risky... It could end up as a huge steal, but remeber Zaitsev, right? He had great rookie season and regressed badly after that...</div></div>
The analytics never were that favorable to Zaitsev even during his rookie season. It's quite a different picture with Marino, who actually played like a true top-pairing guy at times this past season. This is way more like Slavin/Pesce than Zaitsev.
