With this roster you woudl be on track to accrue $391k in cap space to spend at the TDL. That ain't getting you anyone.

With what cap space does NYR take on Nylander? They have only $2.2m available right now.
Why does NSH pay a 2nd for Brodie when they are rebuilding and already have 7 Dmen?
Why is Matt Murray on LTIR?

LTIR means missing 10 games and requires medical assessment. Most injuries don't last that long. Better hope not more than 1 skater is injured at any one time.

Just move timmins and go to a 21 man team</div></div>
A 21 man roster is a very bad idea for a team that wishes to contend. You have 1 extra skater to cover injuries

Is Brodie On The Way Out and Does Vancouver Make Sense
The road to a 22-man roster for Toronto is:
- Sign Samsonov to $3.5m or less
- Buy out Murray
- Trade Jarnkrok for a pick
- Waive Timmins and Lafferty (maybe they get claimed)
- Sign 3 minimum salary players, such as Motte, Aston-Reese, Edler
Cap compliant roster becomes:
Knies Matthews Marner
Bertuzzi Tavares Nylander
Domi Holmberg Motte
ZAR Kampf Reaves
(Gambrell)
Reilly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Giordano Liljegren
(Edler)
Samsonov (Woll)

Demko does not get you anything like that return. You might get a 1st round pick.
VAN are not retaining on Miller for 7 years (because of cap hit and also waste of a retention slot).
Dumba is not the Dman VAN needs.

Making a contender
We were a lottery team last season. Not sure how we become a contender by trading away Garland's 17 goals and adding Roslovic's 11 goals, Dumba's 4 goals and Peeke's +/- of -41.

trading our first to jackets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>First, no one is going to want to acquire Tyler Myers and his $5 million signing bonus payable on July 1, so he can't be included in this trade, but there are teams who will take him with an incentive after July 2.
Second, what is Nils Hoglander doing in this deal? Columbus will be THRILLED to move the LA pick to tenth overall. (And you DO know that if you lose your last game and Detroit and Washington win theirs, the pick becomes number 8, don't you?)
Third, this might make sense if you were getting Andrew Peeke and a very good prospect (i.e., a youngster with real potential), but both Roslovic and Boqvist are iffy (Roslovic because, as you've already pointed out, he's a rental, and Boqvist because of his injury history). Even then, this is indeed a "no-brainer" for Columbus, but a dubious action for a team that was so far out of the playoffs this season.</div></div>
Myers' signing bonus is paid on 15 Sep, not 1 July

Another Attempt at a Framework
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bogdown</b></div><div>I really like the look of that bottom six, but I do think that Ethan Bear has been a tremendous acquisition and a good fit for this team going forward. Getting a guy like Bear, who still has the potential and the years to break out before his prime, on a relatively cheap deal with term is an investment I am willing to take for the team. I project a Siegenthaler like emergence from Bear under Foote and Gonchar, especially playing alongside Hughes. He looks like a good one. I still think that it would be best not to trade Schenn, but I do think we need a RHD for the next 4 years until Reinbacher or Sandin Pellikka are ready. It would be foolish for us not to take one of them with one of our firsts.</div></div>
We would have the cap space to keep Bear with that lineup, but I just can't see him becoming a real top 4 Dman. He is not really a shutdown D, not really a puckmoving D, not really physical presence, etc. But I guess if we have the cap space, then no need to let him go

I think your Myers trade is realistic since he only has $1m in salary owed after his signing bonus is paid next season.
I'd rather not trade Schenn. And don't really want Bear on the team either, as he is ok but not a solution for this team at that cap hit.
At forward, trade Boeser and Garland. Keep Beauvillier and Hoglander. Sign a trustworthy 3C such as Compher or F Gaudreau, to help Raty develop. Also sign some physical veteran bottom 6 guys that can PK such as Hathaway and Acciari.
On D sign UFAs Gavrikov 5m, Mayfield 3.5m, Schenn 1.5m, van Riemsdyk 1.2m. Offer sheet C Foote 1.35m.
Team something like this:
Beauvillier Pettersson Kuzmenko
Podkolzin Miller Mikheyev
Raty Compher Hoglander
Hathaway Acciari Lazar
(Joshua)
Hughes Mayfield
Gavrikov Schenn
OEL TVR
(Stillman Foote)
Demko (Backup)
