Monahan is gone by the TDL anyways
Why are we moving Dvorak for less again?
Monahan wasnt brought back cause we need Centers, we dont
He was brought back because of the Article that the Athletic wrote about the Impact of Monahan on Dach's growth
If you want someone as bad at playing Center as Dach is to be there full time you need guys like Newhook and Monahan in the short and long term.
Dvorak was can RS on and move at the TDL if Owen Beck or Lias Anderson(a Center primarily ) pushes him out a year early.

As long as we dont Fumble it , im pumped.
TML isnt far off either
IMO land Karlsson with 2m RS in a deal for Marner and your a cup winner.
Nothing against Marner its just a cap thing and about positional need
Karlsson gives you the Right Handed D on top pair you guys havent replaced since Larry Murphy left for DET to win those cups .
Reilly would have an extremely productive year and the whole team especially Nylander would step up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>Cmon Habs fan, love Xhekaj but we gotta take that. If he was a RD that could be a different story</div></div>
He is a RD. . . . Its why we signed him SMH
Staois his Partner before and after Xhekaj was traded to his team was a nobody.
That year Xhekaj was his RD though he created so much opportunity for Staois he won CHL player of the Year and a contract from FLA(they likely regret as he's in the ECHL now)
Arber is unsung for what he brings as a player and his Character.
Undrafted he put on 53lbs after growing 3 inches and rather then get tougher it benefitted his overall game.
No longer defined by just his knuckles he had the size to play tough along the boards and man handle most opponents.
Xhekaj is the most well rounded really
Harris never played RD before last year about 10 games it was always Struble pushed to RD in NCAA
Guhle has always been top 2 LD on his teams basically and never been required too
Matheson started his career in FLA on RD due to depth like ours it was his only option for playing time.
Kovaecevic similar to Matheson had to do the same but with LD cause he had Buff,Myers and Trouba ahead of him as a rookie
Now when choosing who to swap out for Hutson in 10 months to a year in 10 months , Harris makes the most sense.
He's close to Hughes and St Louis is in Struble's way and he grew up with both the coach and gm's kids being coached by both just the same. 1/2 always had to go long term if not both after Huston/Matheson were added by Hughes in his first summer as GM in the NHL.

He's Haggling
He like myself wants a Sweetner.
That maybe fair value given the cap 100%
But the Leaf Slayer being traded to the Leafs . . . Hard Sell.
He made us consider you actual Rivals again like we do Senators and Bruins who play with Hate and Purpose each game we play.
Not saying No
Just saying something else
Villeneuve would be my ask
MTL isnt looking to Dump Anderson as Hughes says often he gets calls on Anderson a lot and thinks the returns too low.
We're in a position where we're just as happy to let him play out his contract to the final TDL then move him.
It'll be just as Hughes Rebuild is nearing its end anyways.
Villeneuve makes losing Anderson and have to face him often a little less painful
Villeneuve is in a unique position where we have 2/3 RD with 2 years left and pending UFA's at the time Villeneuve and Mailloux should be ready
Sooner if we move either Savard or Kovacevic this TDL

If im TBL i think about what it takes to unite Hedman and Karlsson
If Grier's that bad at evaluating assets then TBL has a real shot

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>To begin with, your figures are a little off, in the wrong direction on both sides: the retention on Burns was $2.7 million, and the retention on Karlsson here isn't $16 million but $18 million.
Second, the Burns trade was made nine days before Mike Grier was officially named San Jose's manager, so maybe he shouldn't be tagged with it, but even if he is, he might have learned from the experience of being gulled and be a little leery of falling for a bad offer a second time.
My point is that whatever Karlsson's trade value is, and I think that it's high, it will be increased substantially by the amount of retention San Jose is willing to absorb, making the acquisition cost even higher. And every cap dump, like Mikael Granlund or Jeff Petry or whomever, included in the package will only raise the cost even higher.
But then again, I continually insisted that there was no way Los Angeles was going to acquire Pierre-Luc DuBois.</div></div>
"Almost 3m" clarified in the start of the comment
Im not writing almost 3m every times
Those like yourself will understand it 9/10
Grier hired July 5th 2022, Burns traded July 13th 2022
Tell me , does the 5th come before or after the 13th, i forget lol
Im just kidding around im sure you just read it quickly and inversed the numbers.
For a minute i was like "fu** , he's right." then i remember going "what a moron" when i heard about the Burns trade(i still stand by that Grier's a bad GM)
Value as a player 100% from a business POV he's got a NMC he hasnt waived but asked to be traded.
I mean that's the bigger issue even more so then his Cap hit and how much they have to RS on just to get value out of him
He signed a bad contract, it happens to many people . If Josh Anderson was making 2.75m instead of 5.5m we'd have a line up of teams paying for him
But at 5.5m without RS we cant get enough value to justify moving him
IF Karlsson is to get the Value you're insisting on it'll only come in the final 1-2 years of his term once Grier has been fired and replaced with a competent GM

Why not get like the only dude to hand him a Loss in a fight in Vincent Desharnais.
I usually get him for a 3rd and a older prospect who's not part of MTL's plans but still 24 or under.
(i usually do 3rd round pick and Mysak as we got no place for him longterm with Dach and Newhook being acquired)

You know better than to suggest that a 2026 second-round draft pick has any near-term impact, or that Ty Smith would ever be considered a major element in an Erik Karlsson trade, or that Mikael Granlund constitutes a significant potential benefit to San Jose.</div></div>
Again not with Grier, his history proves it.
We cant simply ignore that
But you're 100% right about Karlssons value
But look at it from another POV
Burns deal was on Grier's timetable and he got a couple bottom 6 NHL /AHL call up types and a 3rd for RS 3m x 3 years.
Now Karlsson's put a clock on it
Has a full 100% NMC and completly cut your Balls off
How is a GM like Grier expected to respond?
I think its like expecting Rudy to play in the NFL

I have some news for you: Joel Blomqvist is not a better goalie prospect than Magnus Chroma, and if Mikael Granlund can so easily be flipped for picks, you guys would have seen the last of him by now.
The bottom line is that this offer doesn't come close to getting Erik Karlsson without $18 million in retention, which issue I note you failed to address.
This ACGM isn't up to your usual standards.</div></div>
Again before HIS CHOICES i argued the same
But i cant ignore the ACTUAL GM's history to impose my own will stating it as fact.

Again dont take this as an endorsement for this trade.
More a criticism of an inexperienced GM
But i failed to address nothing , the whole comment was based around the fact you say Grier wouldnt do 4m x4 years

Trust me i argued this about Burns till my hands cramped.
But he RS of 3m almost for 3 years on Burns 8 days after being hired and got nothing but Quantity for it with no real Quality.
That 1st and 2nd alone by that logic should open up the conversation
Based on his history as a GM
I think he'd at least take a hard look a this deal
That i think they'd want PIT to RS on their cap dumps otherwise they have to pay other teams to RS for them to find value in the market place.

That was Jarmo Kekalainen 100% as he was the facilitator in blindsiding Carter.
He acquired someone who was being blindsided by his GM Paul Holmgren
He signed a 11 year deal at just 272k upgrade on his previous 5m contract he had signed at 24 with the promise of being PHI Future.
122 days later he was traded to a non playoff team after making the playoffs with deep runs in 5 of his 6 first years.
My friends a diehard PHI fan , been to games in 17 different arena's to see them so far and he said the Carter trade was suppose to bring them closer to the Cup
He said its pretty pathetic when the closest 1/3 pieces they got has made it to a cup was Nick Cousins with FLA and they shoulda kept Carter /
Instead Carter went on to win 2 with LAK while Vorachek will retire Cupless and Couturier is looking to be following suit.
If your GM wasnt a complete Fool he wouldnt have helped blindside a player.

We'll trade him at the Deadline
RS for an extra year and package him for a Plekanec return or slightly better.(We got 2nd and 2 prospects we flipped right away for Kulak)
That said Beck seems determined that this spot is already his
Given his play at camp last year he might not be wrong.
But that said easier to sell Evans cheap at camp if that happens then flip Dvorak at the TDL
But with Laval Roster packed this year with Junior players turning pro
Its a hard sell to put him in the AHL if he steps up as it would me giving up a good piece demoting them to the ECHL to protect Evans and Dvorak
Personally i'd trade him to DAL for Faksa as its basically on par for Value with DAL getting a bit younger in the deal
MTL's upside is Faksa can communicate to Slafkovsky a lot of what he was missing last year as his English and French is shaky at best and his comprehension with Media is very low.
Kotkanemi was the same way at 18 so we got Joel Armia in addition to Lehkonen and Niemi to help him transition and learn quicker.
Faksa would accomplish that as Czech and Slovak are based of the same written word like France or Quebec French vs Acadian(Different but similar)

At least Pitlicks a pending UFA who can get us a depth pick because of his non existent cap hit.

You're usually pretty savvy and get why CHI before the buyout window while running a team dominated by youth and lower end contracts would take Bailey and not Murray????
They took a chance on him like Perry hoping they could actually play him. In this even its win win for CHI whether he wants to stay like Perry or got mad and they buy him out.
They still eat up enough cap to just make it over the cap floor while using largely youth pieces.
Eventually people need things as with Seabrook or Weber's contracts deemed unmovable.
Eventually someone needed the relief they offer regardless of how small it is
If you're asserting moving Murray's gonna be cheap and easy then why are the cap strapped leafs sitting on him for the 2nd years now?

Savard and Kovacevic are pending FA you see off not next TDL but the one after
You move out Matheson too if you can if not in his final year at the TDL.
Play Harris a year after both Hutson and Reinbached show up in Mathesons final year or just after.
Maximum return and no giving away young Defensman
