lines by the end of the season
The options are pretty fun to play with right now on Montreal. I really want to see KK take that step to be a bonafide 2C. I have trouble seeing him surpass Danny boy. He CAN do it just it seems that his consistency will take a bit to improve. That being said, how destructive of a 3rd line would that be if you switched Toffoli and Anderson?

Kings Trade Barzal
Do not trade away Byfield. That Kopitar mentorship is gonna make that man a HELL of a player! Turcotte? Sure, it's just that it doesn't seem like a move for a team just having been in the 3rd round of the playoffs to make.

I spent all last year not wanting a Hall trade to the avs, I feel the same this year especially after seeing how <em>meh</em> he was in the playoffs vs the Avs. I don't mind trading away Kammy and a 1st for a significant rental, but not Timmins.

come back AA
I'd love it if this happened. Reminds me of when the Coyotes rented Vermette out to CHI for a cup run and then he signed back on the Coyotes. They drafted Nick Merkley with the first round pick they got who just ended up being Hall trade fodder.
I like the idea of AA getting his groove back and then a few years down the road, playing on a line with whoever that 2nd round pick turn out to be.

I prefer to keep MacKinnon haha! I just love his speed, mits and physicality. Would I be happy with McD? Of course! But I prefer Mackinnon's style and personality. I think this trade, if it were to happen, would leave both fanbases feeling weird because yes we both get a top of the league franchise player with game-breaking abilities but our hearts would be crushed too.

I appreciate you looking at the Avs cap situation in that trade and providing some form of solution like a Donskoi trade. The value is insanely tilted in the Avs favor which I like to see.
For me, it's the same thing most folks say about Stamkos, I don't want to take a chance on him because he has yet to string together two consecutive games. If that'd what's making him so cheap, I get it but nah.

quick retool
The Johansen trade seems like a gift, is the salary that much of a deterrent? I am a sucker for returns so it's cool to see Hornqvist go full circle
I can see Pittsburgh adding Grimaldi, I wonder if he's a regular 30 pt guy now.
I think if Tbay is giving up a 1st for a 5mil cap dump, they aren't adding anything else. If he's such a cap dump why is he in your top 6? If he has any promise to play on any teams top 6, I can't see Tbay giving up a 1st or even a 2nd. I look at the Staal cap dump and even on Detroit he's bottom pairing but is a great veteran presence. Detroit was able to twist NYR's arm in that situation though where I don't see Tbay in NYR's cap hell. It's one thing to be right up against the cap it's another to be paying over 10 mil for players to not play for you.
Great middle 6 centre signings! I like letting Duchene be the bona fide 1C too and with the development of Fabbro, the addition of a likely ready Tomasino, I can see NSH finding themselves back into contender talks with this roster. I wouldn't be happy about it though haha

Are They A Contender
I don't think the Flames are a contender this year, I think they can be a playoff team but if so, it'll be a first round exit.
The forwards are better and getting better. I think the defense took a step back this off-season but will get better in future years.
I need to see Markstrom play before I judge goaltending. I can't tell if it's going to be Lehner on Chicago or Bob on Florida. I can't help but have a bad feeling because it's a pricier signing and that added pressure doesn't bode well. BUT! I think years after that could be good once that pressure is off from time passing and the defense improves.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad I wasn't too off the mark. I've been intrigued since watching Byfield go to LA this last draft. What he's gonna become under Kopitar's mentorship is gonna be unreal. So I got curious what the rest of the team looks like. Think y'all are gonna keep all those prospect centres? After Byfield and Turcotte (prioritizing them solely on draft position) there's still Vilardi, Kupari, Madden, Thomas and A.D. from what I was looking up. Any of these guys trade bait or being moved to wing? I moved Vilardi to wing based on shot.

The proven vs unproven goalie argument isn't THAT iron clad. Last year, how many people would laugh in your face if you said Francouz will probably put up better numbers than Bobrovsky. Sorokin's KHL numbers are THAT good, when your lowest season is .929 and your highest GA.A 1.61 playing the majority of your club's games, that's an insane pace to hold over 5 years! He's 25 and entering his prime. Greiss took a step back numberswise as he turns 35 come season start. I would hardcore take Sorokin over Griess.

Look at the difference in numbers when pelech was in against when he was out, its staggering. When everyone was healthy (the playoffs) they made the ecfs. Dont know a better team that could sign him. Also they are getting better. Theyre own players will be better. Lee will be much better we have dobson, and wahlstrom is better than brassard. Plus we have sorokin over greiss</div></div>
Been waiting to see Sorokin for years! Signing Varly was such a smart way to make him comfortable enough to finally come over to NA. The battle of the Russian goalies in NY is gonna be real for years to come. It's gonna be exciting to watch.

<a href="/users/EsoYeezus69" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@EsoYeezus69</a> Is this the premise? I've read nothing here that makes this assumption (<em>unless I'm just blind af</em>). This comes off much more like a "<em>what would it take to get him</em>" scenario to me really. But I could be primed that way though reading a Matthews playing with McDavid article recently so it could be my bad. What a hell of a bidding war league-wide that would be.

Stuff like that is why a GM is not motivated to move this kind of player. You're gonna ask for McDavid and then get choosey? "<em>He's good but it doesn't mean anything</em>" Holland and the boys are having a laugh bud,

I'm getting the absolute biggest bang for my buck possible: Marner, Nylander, Andersen, Robertson, Sandin or Liligren, a 1st and a 2nd, with Neal, Russell & Koskinen going the other way with 0 retention. It's McDavid we're talking about here so basically, I get what I want or I hold on to the best player in the NHL until he retires with my club.

I think because of being pretty young, being an RFA, how much of an increase it is from what he's currently making and the flat cap, it is quite possible. I would be happy with a long term deal too.
