I’m glad you left Georgie in. He had a good game… perhaps his demise has been overplayed a bit.

Some Blues fans would like this deal. I agree with RClay it's not enough. Most people seem to rate Morrow as 2nd pair ceiling but worry about his defending, but some Canes fans view him as a top prospect. If I have to give up Buch, I'd prefer a different young player.

What exactly is the reasoning for the Brodie retention? He’s of no value to us. Nothing in that package helps us plug the hole that you’re proposing us blow on our backend.

I dont know that the Oilers have the cap space to sign Buch long term. It will all depend I guess on what they do with Campbell.

What I mean by that is he is middle of the pack for top 6 winger. In other words. A good, but not necessarily great player.
I would certainly take him on my team, but not at the cost of 2 players who are, or will be NHLers with plenty of upside and a first round pick.
Your mileage may vary, and that is fine.

Using Puck Pedias new tool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesTheGreats</b></div><div>Sorry I might be stupid I don’t get how the players value correlates to the draft pick value and how you got that playoffs value</div></div>
No, it’s an abstract concept I am applying in my own way. I’ll try to break it down here ~read this if the blues suck~
If you enter 4,000,000 into the salary relief tool with 1 year left, the displayed pick indicates what it historically has costed to move a contract of that value. In this case, the tool projects that the avalanche would need to include a 2nd round pick, 5th overall in that round, or the 37th overall pick. Each pick has a value assigned to it based on historical data for each spot (I assume), where higher picks have greater value.
In this post I am equating the draft pick compensation as the negative value to move that player. In other words, if the 37th pick is what’s projected to move that contract and that picks value is “8.32” normally then Ryan Johnson would have “-8.32” value to move for which Chicago would be compensated. In the mock trade, I suggested that as Colorodo does not have a 2nd of that value or much opportunity to mix and max assets to get to that 8.32 spot they should give Chicago there first and Chicago would send picks to make up the difference since they can. It would be like paying with a $20 bill and getting change from the store. In that case Chicago needs to make up 6.14 of draft pick value to make the trade fair for Colorodo which is then conveyed in picks valuing roughly that amount (2nd, 4th).
The tool does not account for the value of future picks, nor do calculations made today have the same value as after this season concludes. Depending on the results of the regular season, deadline, and playoffs who has what picks and where they are drafting change dramatically as in the case of the panthers making the SCF last year. Their draft picks went from being in the 15-20 range to number 31 which is a huge drop off.
I hope that helps, but let me know if I can explain something better.

Take out Broberg and and Holloway and add one of the none NHL Forwards like Lavoie or Bourgault, and then add a 3rd team to retain salary. Paying any more than that should be a fireable offence for a GM.
Or....
Add Jack Campbell from the Oilers and leave the deal the way it stands now.</div></div>
I feel like midlevel talent top 6 is a slightly disingenuous viewpoint of Buch.

I am gonna freak out haha!
Is there anyway this trade could happen at this TDL? I think that would make it more appealing for the oilers knowing that we would have him for a playoff run.

Broberg is NHL ready, playing top pair minutes in the AHL. I personally would rather see him on our 3rd pair next season then moved for a rental, and I think Oiler management looks at it the same way.</div></div>
Okay, okay. I just need to point this out just once. In this scenario, we are trading for Buchnevich, and he comes with AN EXTENSION IN PLACE! Broberg would not be moved for a rental haha. With Ekholm being on the Oilers for the next 2 and a half seasons, I wouldn’t be opposed to trading Broberg, especially to get Draisaitl an actual winger to play with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesTheGreats</b></div><div>That’s fair, how do you guys value McLeod? Doesn’t have to be him either just wondering</div></div>
I would say he is valued pretty decently in Edmonton. He plays a major role on this team. Currently, he is fluctuating between being our 3c, and Draisaitls line mate. We just don’t really have anyone to play on his LW at the moment, as the Nuge/McDavid/Hyman line seems to be a lock. Sometimes we even see Draisaitl on McDavids wing, due to the lack of top 6 talent for him to play with. If he had a guy like Buchnevich on his wing, he would be putting up way more points than he is. McLeod has been looking pretty good on the wing too, so maybe we will go for a 3c. Who knows.. maybe that’s why we were linked with Henrique..
