Packing picks for bad contracts
Why would the caps send over a 1st, 2nd, and recent 2nd to downgrade at D and get a mid 4th line forward

For sure - Chychrun would help initiate some offense from D. But they need better forwards as well.
I am shocked they made the playoffs haha. They had a -37 goal differential and made it. That's wild to me.

Fair enough! Would you do it, if he came with a reasonable extension? Something Similar to the Hanifin extensions.

Malkin declines. He has already stated he's a penguin for life and maybe toward the end he'll play a season or two in russia. Although that's up for debate at this point.

Overall I don't think its actully that bad, if they stay in the central though I don't see them being a wild card team, anyone know if they are moving to the Pacific or staying?

Yeah, going for specific guys for this is always tough, also very difficult to predict which guys the coaching staff/scouts will like. More of a general mold of player

Offseason Tinker Toys
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>I think it's just so hard to ballpark Laine's trade value right now. He's missed a large majority of this season and has been so up and down his whole career, but I swear he has the potential to pot 50 in a year in the right scenario. Maybe he meshes with McMichael or Lapierre and just lights it up. I can't see this offer being beaten out by anyone else. I think the 2024 1st and a low level prospect should be more than enough given his injury history and where Columbus is right now in their rebuild.</div></div>
Laine was always an awkward fit with CBJ - they only traded for him because Jarmo caved into <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USs9AXkGpMs" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Dubois' shenanigans</a> and made a panicked trade. Fluky injuries and shortened seasons have really hurt him, and his timeline doesn't line up with CBJ, particularly considering he doesn't have the term JG does.
He's still been roughly a .80 PPG guy with CBJ, which is saying something considering the mess CBJ have been since they got him, and the expectations they put on him to be That Guy, which he isn't (and that's OK!). Put him in the right system, and I totally agree he can be a legit first-line weapon again.
And yeah, I'm still in shock over how universally liked this trade is. That just...doesn't happen on CapFriendly. Or even the internet.

Cool by me.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>I'd want to take out Suzdalev but would otherwise I'm not against the columbus trade. Not sure if Toronto has interest in TVR but if they do this could be good for both sides.</div></div>
I'm not against the Laine trade even with Suzdalev taken out. Maybe throw in a late-round pick instead just to pick up another lottery ticket?
Laine + Elvis for Kuemper + 2024 1st + 2025 COL 2nd + 2025 WSH 5th + Magnusson?
Much less and Columbus just keeps him. But a few good draft picks and a few lottery tickets is probably enough to entice us to move an expensive player for whom we may have replacements already in the system.

And for Toronto, my thought process was I know they'd probably rather have Jensen, but TVR is a mil cheaper which is huge for them. And he could pair nicely with Reilly I think</div></div>

Dear Leafs Fans
Good explanation and I agree with some of your points:
1/ Kampf is not going anywhere; he has a lot of value for Leafs not so much other teams. I agree trade is unreasonable.
2/ Lil & Robertson might be on the block because some fans think they are not Tre style players; pure speculation at this point but time will tell 🤷🏻. Lili > Jensen now, not even considering Jensen’s contract, so on that one - we disagree
Allow me to explain something you may not (although you should be , tbf) be aware of…Leafs Nation is the biggest fanbase in the league, by a wide margin.
Even within our own ranks, there is massive disagreement so just unreasonable to speak to Leafs Nation as an entity. More like a loosely associated group of leaderless people who all think they know the best path forward 😉

He's a pretty solid asset in Dallas. Not going to try and blow smoke and tell you that he's a future all-star or anything, but he's a cheap bottom-6 forward that plays a very good swiss army knife kind of role. He can play up and down the lineup & in just about all situations. Not saying he would cost the world if Washington wanted to trade for him, but I don't see him being added to a deal like the one above.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BoringBrianMacLellan</b></div><div>I dunno... I love Elvis' athleticism and always felt like he's been dealt a **** hand in Columbus ever since the Kivleniks incident. I think a change of scenery, and new system, could be huge for him. Plus Elvis' buyout is cheaper than Kuempers (not sure how, but I saw a Jackets fan say that), so if it doesn't work, you could go that route after next season and bring up Stevenson.</div></div>
You can check it out with the <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/darcy-kuemper">buyout calculator</a>. Cheaper here means lower cap hit. It seems to be due to Kuemper's signing bonuses. Merzlikins does not have any. It is also the reason why I, as a Columbus fan, am now against this deal and I think Columbus would not do it.

100% sure they don't want to get tied for Kuemper for 3 years while they can just bury Petersen to AHL and get rid of him next summer when his contract ends. The team is performing well above expected, but they're not in "win now" mode, and even if they would be, Kuemper ain't the answer. They can just go with Ersson and a lot cheaper veteran/Kolosov next season.

In or out of the program, the Hawks accept that trade all day every day. If Bear can't play, so what. Hawks have plenty of cap space.
