Don't sleep on Yzerman taking advantage of Vegas's situation. Ned is on an expiring deal and if he can flip him to Vegas for a 1st and a prospect, I bet he'd consider it since Vegas is so far up a creek.

I would care, defense is just as important as offence. You're giving up our best defensive forward, for a guy that plays virtually no D. Scoring goals is great, but beating teams 6-5 every night probably isn't.

Now I know you don’t watch the Oilers play enough games and have no idea what you’re talking about.

He is more of a placeholder for just a veteran defensive defenseman. Sorry should have just put a custom placeholder.

Oh, and here's another two cents: all this hometown boy ever wanted to do is play for his hometown team. How anyone can vote against that as a good thing is heartless.</div></div>

Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fixitf11</b></div><div>Because Puljujarvi’s trade value is a 3rd round pick rn (around the league, not my opinion…I value him higher) and Kapanen is a speed player that will help EDM keep the pace against teams like COL. I would say that was their major weakness in that series. EDM had the top end players that could keep up, but their depth was not fast enough to keep the pace COL was setting, and Kapanen can help improve that.</div></div>
Edmonton's 3rd line was their best line against Colorado: Foegele - McLeod - Puljujarvi. In that series Jesse actually led the team in CF% (60.29), SF% (51.28), xGF% (64.55), HDCF% (76.92) and was 2nd in SCF% (62.07) among forwards who played at least 5 minutes.
Kapanen won't be an improvement on that.

As a Canes fan and an analytics guy, I find this trade offer funny because Jesse is the better player right now but is perceived as a negative asset compared to Necas' speed and potential.

I don’t think he’ll be THAT much of a cap dump. I like his offensive game. Although you get no defence it’s still not that bad to have a player of his calibre.

best case ontario
I really like the Drouin option to Edmonton as well. Buying low just like Kane and you could get him easily retained with just the 1 year term. If the Oilers could continually get these high end talent top 6 at under 3m every year, it would be ideal.
Mtl could retain 50% and only leave 2,750,000 for the Oil! I dont think you need to give up Lavoie even though he's a low end prospect. 33 to 29th would be enough for Mtl to dump Drouin, they are just looking to recoup a litlle bit. 4 drafts spots that late is nothing to the Oilers but appearances matter to the Habs with a home draft.

Keith in the presser all season
Finally a non-Petry trade with Dallas. The Stars are too old as it is Barrie is only 30 and the cap hit us only around for a couple years, he’s soft defensively and a liability but can produce. Works in the short term the Stars aren’t going to win anyway just need to fill out the roster for a few throwaway seasons. Barries 2yrs left deal isn’t as handcuffing as Klingberge next deal will be.

Bouchard is a way better player than Barrie and has size. He can become a passable defender.

wishful thinking
Ottawa declines
No more spots available for basically anybody unless :
- Veteran Top-6 Winger
- Veteran Top-4 RHD (preferably to play with Chabot)
* Veteran doesn't mean "old", just still good with experience
Summary :
- No need/spot for Ryan
- Ottawa would much rather have Watson than Kassian (and keep their 5th)
- not a fan of Lavoie, I have seen him as a bust for while. Not sure Dorion/etc already know but probably as amateur scouting is the only thing they do well.
