I'm not making up anything, it is well known that we have rejected late round 1sts for Laughton. It came out that Dubas was very close to acquiring him two years ago before Laughton's extension, which was said to be a 1st, which would have been late since you guys have been in the playoffs. The fact that they were offered and then declined, says he is worth at least a 1st. How is that so hard to comprehend. Go look at all your other little Leafs ACGM's, apparently your fans love Laughton, so he's just a bit more than a throw away bottom 6 guy as you put it.</div></div>
“It is well known…” “Dubas was very close to acquiring him…” how do you make these statements with such confidence? Could be true, could be bs.
Some Leafs fans can be over the top so I guess it’s a bit unfair to jump on flyers fans now, my bad.
But I just don’t see how we can send a 1st for Laughton (he’s valuable but not a difference maker & we can sign FAs - we have cap room) . Different than previous years, we only have three picks this draft and cupboard is looking bare.

Inside sources give out this stuff, especially after the fact when it doesn't matter anymore. I agree that there's a lot of smoke out there, but if you're analytic and don't believe everything you read, you can read between the lines about what stuff happened and what didn't.</div></div>
Flyers fire their GM, rebuild on the way…not hard to guess guys that could moved. I didn’t see anyone accurately predicting what the return would be, because it would have total guess work. Same with Laughton - he’s likely to be moved but just no way I believe Leafs offered (& were rejected) a 1st. Bloggers are totally guessing on teams and offers

Seems like Frost and Foerster have some immediate chemistry which is nice. I've been loving what I've seen out of him the past few games we'll see what happens with Cutter as well, I'm hoping he goes back to school for another year no need to rush him into an elc when entering a rebuild would want the elc cap hit when you're ready to compete. Hopefully we end the season in 5th from bottom and either Michkov falls or we win the lottery

I also never said you need to be a star to be a captain. It is what makes the most sense and it is the most successful. The Flyers will probably name Laughton a captain. However, in my heart of hearts I can never see Scott Laughton raising a cup as the captain. So, that begs the question why? What are you doing? I am sick of the being "good" tear this whole organization down to the bone and rebuild it correctly like what should have happened in 2018.</div></div>
Fully agree a rebuild is what needs to happen but the real change that needs to be made is getting the senior advisors out. Clarke, Homer, and Barber have had way too much influence in the past few years and continue the thinking of big and hits=good which the org needs to move into the current day where speed and skill is what the game thrives on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BroadStreet53</b></div><div>I understand he has been the only player with a letter all year. Coots will be back next year, we all hope and you cannot tell me if not for this injury he isn't the slam dunk Captain. If Laughton is named our captain that would be fitting. Just another thing this franchise will have messed up. He may be a leader and that's great, but he will only be here for at most 3 more seasons. The Mike Richards comparison is wild. Richards on the ice was miles ahead, but off the ice I have never heard a thing about Laughts like you did with Richards. It was always snowy in Philadelphia when Richie wore the "C". Jori Lehtera would've been one hell of a teammate for him just came about 5 years too late.</div></div>
Coots would be another in the long line of quiet leaders. Laughton seems to be someone who would call out his teammates when he would need to and hold them accountable which would be huge. Not saying I wouldn't be shocked if Coots is named captain but with Torts' history the "best player" on the team likely won't be the captain. Also, the comparison to Richie comes from style of play both insanely hard working players, Richards toed the line more than Laughton but this was also a comparison made 10 years ago saying if laughton hit his ceiling he would be a Mike Richards type guy

Colorado probably tries to bargain a little by asking for max retention on Hayes, retention on Seeler, or making it the 2024 1st, but I think they may ultimately take this. The players going their way fill their only two holes.

I can see a scenario jones would interest Edmonton but a very big stipulation would have to be in place.
For it to make sense for Edmonton they would have decided that smith and skinner is the tandem wanting down the stretch meaning they move kosk to facilitate another trade for cap purposes. Jones would need to clear waivers first because would just want him as a veteran option to act as a benchwarmer or late season call up to rest smith before playoffs. I’m ok seeing this deal if those events can take place in my opinion a really wise direction for Edmonton to go in. Braun is the bigger player of interest in all honesty and again he would just be an insurance policy rather than full time role but oilers could really use some insurance on the right side d with very little depth to turn to in the event of bouch Barrie or ceci has to miss some time.

Wow, thought he was going to go for around $9 million with how underpaid he's been on his last contract! The length is a bit scary but I'll take that at the lower average cap hit.

Something Like This More Than Likely
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BroadStreet53</b></div><div>I think they stick with that tandem one more year. The goaltending was sub-par but they were left out to dry so many times. I see your point, but Hart hopefully is on a bridge deal which will increase drastically in a few years.......hopefully. Have to resign Coots, Farabee, Frost, and maybe even Giroux. Gonna need some Cap.</div></div>
Fair points. The bottom 6 is pretty expensive, so I wonder if they try to find some $$ by cutting costs there when the top guys need new deals. I could see a 2 x $3m deal for Bernier or something and maybe you’re able to shave off $500k off of Hart’s salary. $5m for a goaltending tandem is pretty darn cheap compared to a lot of other teams. 1 year of Holtby could be interesting too.
