PLD is not Barzal and this would be an overpay for Barzal. This site needs to put some respect on Monahan’s name, he’s a pretty consistent 30 goal 65 point guy at least, notably marks PLD has never reached, even with Panarin. PLD may be a bit better but not a top prospect, solid young NHLer with upside, two 2nds, and another prospect better.

Buffalo Sabres signed Jack Quinn (3 Years / $1,775,000 AAV)
He will be a great player, love what he can bring to our team. Adams drafted according to our position of biggest need. Hopefully it doesn't bite us. Rossi may be NHL ready but Cozens is too and I think Cozens is much more of a sure thing than Rossi. Future top 6 of Skinner, Eichel, Reinhart, Olofsson, Cozens, Quinn looks and sounds deadly. Throw Hall in there and you got an elite forward group

I think you are too hung up on the top 6 vs bottom 6. These lines allow the team to spread the wealth and be a more well-rounded team as opposed to top-heavy as they have been in recent years

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>chloewoj</b></div><div>the calgary flames really are the calgary canucks</div></div>
oh wow so original did you think that up yourself. You and half the nucks fans in the world should maybe think of the reasons why a western conference Canadian team might be able to pick up players who played on other western conference canadian teams. Canadian teams outside of toronto already have difficulty attracting players to play here because who would want to play in freezing cold Canada with high taxes when you could play in any number of warm American cities with lower taxes. Players that have played in canada are much more likely to sign here so its only natural for the fringe guys in vancouver to agree to sign league minimums on another canadian team. as for markstrom he was arguably the most coveted goalie available on free agency and he has ties to some of the other swedish players in calgary so along with the massive paycheck it was a natural fit for him. Tanev is the only guy who Calgary really poached out of vancouver and it is likely because vancouver wouldnt pay him because they have to pay their young talent that are coming up in the league. Tanev having been in vancouver for his whole career probably didnt want o move too far from his family.

This signing is clear win for Flames and big L to Canucks, mostly due to salary.
Love how Canuck fans are saying "they let Flames have these guys".
That is just hilarious.

Nesterov is back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CTRAIN_15</b></div><div>I think Simon penalty kills, and dube or mange can in a pinch too</div></div>
Simon doesn't (it was like the first thing I looked up lol), last year he averaged a career high of 14 seconds per game on the PK, the same as Dube did in the regular season IIRC. Mangi and Bennett played a small amount in the playoffs, but I think it was in the 10-15 second range too. I feel like this is so vital because Backlund is among the team leaders in minor penalties taken

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>Calgary loves D depth. Maybe now that we have Petrovic/Nesterov to complement Mackey/Yelesin outside the top 6 we won't have to trade picks at the deadline for depth D like Fantenberg (actually didn't mind the Gustafsson acquisition this year, but the Forbort acquisition was only salvaged by Hamonic sitting out of the bubble, otherwise it woulda been unnecessary, but my point stands and maybe we'll make an actual splash next deadline).</div></div>
Let's not forget Poolman and Lerby, I think they are closer than they get credit for as well.
However to make a plash at the deadline, you need cap space, which we lack; and any contract we have we could dump at the deadline (basically just Ryan) belongs to a valuable member of our team.

This makes sense and really isn't that awful of a contract. Markstrom is a great goalie..the flames window is in the next 3ish years and goaltending has been their worst position since kipp left. You worry about the last 3 years later on

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>Obviously the Jets are planning on Heinola and Samberg playing on the team...so they get Forbert and Beau just in case....and pick someone up at the TDL</div></div>

Too bad none of you know be is a actually the worst defenseman in the NHL.
I rather have Jack Johnson in my top 4 than Forbort in my bottom pair. This guy sucks ass and I had to watch him for 4 straight years. People wonder why Doughty "sucks" its because he was paired with this bum for almost 4 straight years. Doughgy is the only reason this guy ever had decent numbers. But watching him, get ready to see very stupid decision making, lots of turn overs, zero physicality, and lots of goals against when he's on the ice. He's the most frustrating player I've ever watched in my entire life. I rather watch peewee B than watch this guy. He belongs in the ECHL. How he remains in the NHL is beyond me. Probably bc of Doughty or made Joakim Ryan look like a top pairing dman last year.

(EDM/CGY) - Lucic (12.5% retained) & conditional 2020 3rd for Neal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trickster</b></div><div>I am iffy on this trade.
Does saving 500k really worth this?
Neal much more likely to bounce back over Lucic should be a factor in the decision for this too.</div></div>
This trade isn't nearly as bad for Calgary as everyone thinks/says it is. Everybody has to step back and look at the math.
Calgary and Edmonton are not New York or Los Angeles, or Toronto. Neal's contract was/is all salary, equally spread. Thus the Flames owed Neal $23 million over the next four years. In contrast, Lucic's contract was front-loaded and there was a $3 million signing bonus that Edmonton just paid, so Lucic is owed a total of $16 million by Calgary for the same period. Now subtract the retention ($3 million), and Calgary saves $10 million in real cash by this trade. Now $10 million to us sitting in the comfort of our armchairs at home may not seem important, but to the Calgary GM it means that he can offer a free agent next summer a $2.5 million signing bonus in every year on a four-year contract -- money he didn't have before, but which may mean the difference between being able to sign Matt Duchene or Artemi Panarin and being able to sign Ryan Dzingel. So although Edmonton may be the winner on the ice, Calgary is the winner at the bank.

The young kids coming up are just to quick for him.</div></div>
Definitely not, maybe watch him play instead than believing he's bad at everything. His contract isn't good and he is definitely overpaid, but he's still a useful player on the 4th line. Don't play him on the 3rd, you won't get what you want but 4th, it's fine.
