Goalie Trade Comps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SKWPG</b></div><div>Lists like that are great for historical data, but there are a LOT of variances and variables to look at.
You also have to take into consideration factors that trades / lists like that don't consider.
1. There aren't a lot of goalies that will be available this upcoming season.
2. Quite a few teams are a TOP (Vezina caliber) goalie away from going far.
3. Helly wins games. Many of the games the Jets won were because of him.
4. Helly is a freaking workhorse.
5. Helly wants to win. If a team that is in a position to win trades for him, he will most likely sign long term.
More.... but that should suffice.
Statistics and Historical models are good, but the data is too limited and there are far too many variables each season.</div></div>
See my response above.
The data may be limited, but they are also guides as to what the range of possible trades will be.
I would also say, there seem to be a lot more goalies out there this year than previous, at both the top of the market and below. I am not making any argument as to who is good, who is not, who is buying, who is selling. I am just saying…use the comps. Always use comps.

Every year, fans come up with reasons why the comps don’t apply. Mostly to rationalize their wishes.
Every year, the comps turn out to be more accurate.
Every year.

There are plenty of historical comps to work from there. Use one.

Provide a comp of where a goalie returned another starting goalie (with more term) and top-line winger.
I gave you a whole list to work with.

Marner to Devils
I'd much rather the Devils have Meier for 8 years at 8.5m than Marner for only 2 years.
Hope the Devils would decline this if offered.

For me it's the Ty Smith for John Marino trade last summer, would never have foreseen that trade going down.
But it did, and I am very thankful for it.
The NHL is a weird place a lot of the time.

There's no chance Nemec is dealt for Hellebuyck, or any goalie that I can see, extension or not.
Besides, the Devils don't need to trade Nemec anywhere to 'go for it next season', internal development from their young guys currently on the roster may get them to the cup as soon as next year.

No thanks. That's more value than we gave up for Meier, let alone a two year expiring deal.

Hellebyuck is a minimalist is net. A positionally correct goaltender that lets the puck hit him. That type of tender ages better than say a Saros who is active in his net. Active netminders are more reactive and rely on their quick reaction speed. Poo Poo Helle all you want. Saros, Vasilevsky and Sorokin have the help of defensive systems infront, when those waver they can look human as well. All great goaltenders only 1 available and saying that still unlikely. Your gonna pay a very high price. If not your gonna lose to another offer.

You can't have too many good forwards on a roster.
I don't think that Marino provides anything different to someone like Siegenthaler and possibly Bahl from next season onward.
Don't get me wrong, I like Marino and would do the Ty Smith + 3rd trade for him everyday of the week. But he's not some defensive God that some people make him out to be.
Marino is a pretty good 2nd pairing RHD in my view, that's all.</div></div>
Two things about Marino though….he is consistent and his cap hit is good. Killorn isn’t putting up the same numbers in our 4th line as he did in Tampa. Just keep Bastian there who is solid for that role.

I find it so interesting that so many NHL fans believe this, that Marino is more important to this Devils team than Bratt.
I'd love to know why that is.</div></div>
The Devils have plenty of high end forwards especially if they keep Meier. They don’t have another match up D man like Marino. Dougie is great but he’s not the defensive guy Marino is.

If Kane start playing like Kane and kids can step up again, NYR can win. I agree it will prove be very tight but seeing how NJD played most of the year it should translate well in playoff, but anything cam happen postseason so well see. May best team win 🏆 🙌

We still need a goalie before we are a legit team
This is the most reactionary nonsense I've ever seen. Yes, we need a goalie, but I'd sooner walk on hot coals than trade Timo for one. Don't forget 1) that Helle and Sorokin are UFAs after next year, and 2) that Schmid has been rated very highly this year.

Thread:

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Nothing reactionary at all here
1. I like Timo, but he has been a little underwhelming and has clearly disrupted team chemistry (which hopefully time can solve). So far, he has not made the team better for 2022-23. I hope as much as anyone he will for playoffs and future years.
2. Goaltending was, is, and will be the biggest impediment to NJD becoming a contender. I have been saying for a year-and-a-half. It was my preference to sit out deadline, make a move for goaltending over the summer. I love Schmid. But he is a looong way to guy like Hellebuyck (I have strong preference for goalies that can start 60 games a year).
3. It was not just one bad game. Since the back-to-back games vs TB, we are 4-7 (22nd in the league). And the last few games, they have looked a lot like the 2021-22 Devils. Giving up very soft goals in net. Team looking defeated and tired.</div></div>

Trading Bedard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DogDayCaps2</b></div><div>I would totally move Bedard for the correct price. I honestly think it’s a genius move. How many “once in a life time” players are now “busts”. Maybe target a better player than Eklund but he could also turn out to be a Forsberg type. They have very comparable stats.
I’ll do comparable
Eklund - Forsberg
Michkov - Ovechkin /Kaprizov (better stats than Ovi)
#34oa- could be a great players as well
Bedard - Mcdavid /Crosby
Look at it like this. Would you trade
Ovechkin (pretend he’s young 18yo) Forsberg for Mcdavid
Ton of people are sleeping on Michkov. Huge mistake</div></div>
I would NOT do a young OV and Forsberg for McDavid, and thats from a WSH perspective. And no, the ONLY player who has been hyped up as much as Bedard who has ever flopped was Alexader Daigl, and thats bcuz he had no drive, we already know how motivated Bedard is so there's no worry there. Any price thats worth Bedard would be too much for the other team to give up as he is still 18 and theres a chance injuries can derail his development.
