Montreal franchise changing rebuild.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Montreal would need quality assets in order to trade for a top line centre.:)</div></div>
That is true unfortunately. Montreal will have to draft them or steal them in a trade, first way is easier.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>this is True in a sense but the way you set it up is more then that .
since Eller Left Chucky's possession metrics literally went from + to -
having another American to play with and Scherbak or Drouin on his wing it could give
us a legit first line threat for the first time since the days of Kovalev and Koivu
as for the Plekanec comment we landed a 2nd , Rychel who's been one of our best prospects with 12pts in 16 in Laval and 2 pts in 4 in MTL he's taken Mccarrons spot in the depth pool IMO so we actually landed a lot for him . that being said giving up a lot for a top 6 center is one thing but given up for a Center that's played bottom 6 wing and center with no direction for 2 years being clearly miss managed more then Chucky, that has to impact the value</div></div>
I am not sure how much Valiev and Rychel can bring to the team, but since Montreal need to rebuild, i would sign them to a 2 years contract and hope they play well enough to raise their value and then trade them for pick or as part of a package.
The main problem with the Habs is that their core is old, not good enough and they have nothing in the pipeline with their prospects.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>trade Weber ?
good ******* luck
Price and Weber are untouchable for 4 years minimum until their buyout becomes less then 6m a year cap hit .
they got contracts that guarantee pay via signing bonus's play or retire and structured so it makes buyouts really hard.
the rest you could flip for value 100% but you'd get more value out of Weber and Price level contracts by waiting .
as for Patches if we dont trade him at the draft we can get more at the trade deadline in his final year as 100% of the time
teams overpay for players to help with a cup run which is not as common in the summer .
its never to late to get a Center we havent had a single top line center since Molson bought the Habs .
we've had Gomez and Cole stuffed into that role and fail but never actually got that top C.
Patches for Bjugstad ,Ang and a 1st (likely to be a mid to late if they are picking up Patches as if they didnt expect playoffs they wouldnt bother getting a UFA)
Bjugstad like Chucky has had his value diminished playing wing and bottom 6 since Gallant left with no clear direction from his coach who has 1st ,2nd and 4th centers out taking more draws then Bjudgstad.
that being said there is still value in him and he's only 25 so he could be that Winger to play with Chucky who can help him balance the Faceoff Load allowing him to stay at Center(Chucky's lights out on OZ faceoffs but struggles with NZ and DZ)</div></div>
If we trade Price and Weber, we will need to retained and take a nad contract back, like Ladd, Lucic or a Matt Martin or Vladimir Sobotka. Now is time to trade since i feel if we dont Montreal is screwed for another 10 years.
I would touch Bjugstad, he's a average#2/good#3 C now playing in the wing with Florida.

You are never going to win anything if you don't have a 1C!!!</div></div>
Trade Price, Weber, Pacioretty and Byron for now. Get young players, draft picks and tank. 3 top 5 overall picks and 2 to 3 extra 1st round picks the next 3 drafts should give you very good chances at drafting one. Montreal needs to rebuild, not give assets for a C, its too late for that.

They absolutely need to find a way to trade Price, he's the reason we trade top 5 or 18th+ overall. Lets hope he privately ask Bergevin to trade him.

2 31+ years old star players on expensive contract dont return you garanteed top line forwards or top pairing dmen. Montreal needs a rebuild with as many picks as possible. The cupboards are empty and they arent winning the cup for at least another 5 years. Time to do what's best for the franchise.

Nobody is trading you a top #2 C for Weber or Price. You get as many chances as you can at the draft. Unless you want to package Galchenyuk, Juulsen and a 1st? I dont think so

If you sell Pacioretty for Vilardi and Clague, dont go throw assets for O'Reilly. Montreal still misses the playoffs. I would try to unload Price and Weber as well.

Juulsen is a rookie and not ready for at least another year. Boqvist might need 2 years. Montreal defense is already ****?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bloodykisame</b></div><div>i like the edmonton deal fair for both sides but pacciorety will not fetch borgstrom and a first, borgstrom is a elite top prospect and wish pacciorety being a top 6 atm and 1 year is not worth it as borgstrom is nhl ready and can play that role already. But i feel you could get a little more for weber if you hold 1.5m-2m back because then his contract is actually quite good for a couple years.</div></div>
It might be easier to trade Pacioretty if he already has a deal with Florida on an extension. If not i want Heponiemi, 1st in 2019, Arizona 2nd in 2018 and Mascherin.
