You’re right. They should have signed him for 8 years, not 7. What was Sakic thinking?
Seriously though, this was a bit of bad luck on timing for MacKinnon. If you remember when this contract was signed, he was coming off a couple of disappointing seasons, and though he wasn’t yet 21, some people were wondering if he was ever going to become the superstar he was expected to be and ultimately became. Obviously he would have been better off with a bridge deal, but I’ll never fault a player for giving up a chance at bigger money in favour of the certainty of a long-term contract. You only get one career, and you never know what might happen.
Next contract he can have both money and term, if that’s what he wants.

Cole resigning
He’ll get the same as Suzuki. I’m thinking he’ll get between 7.5 and 8 if he goes for a long term deal now. Could be more if he signs a bridge deal and really turns it on.

Moving eller
Don't see why the caps would do this as the entire point of moving eller would be to free up cap space if/when Wilson and Backstrom return. Kerfoot at this stage is probably a slightly better player, but not worth the extra 1.25M as well as the inflexibility that retaining on trades causes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capsfan1212</b></div><div>Jake Bean might fit what la needs</div></div>
Take him. I like his potential, but his style of play doesn't fit CBJ's need right now - we have plenty of undersized offensive D.
I think this all more or less checks out, obviously accounting for two years into the future.
Rosy is definitely one of the harder guys to peg down - if his level of play remains high, I see him getting more and playing higher, possibly as a 2C with KJ on the wing. If he's relegated to a 3C, I'm not sure I see him making that much.
Assuming Jiricek meets his potential, I also see him as a 1RD to Peek's 3RD. Mateychuk is also probably our 3LD by this point.

Moving eller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capsfan1212</b></div><div>Is it a sensible trade</div></div>
I was more speaking to the logistics/frequency of Kerfoot trades on CapFriendly in general but I don't really see it happening with the Caps and Eller. It doesn't really help them performance-wise or cap-wise, it's more of a lateral move. They're probably better off trading Kerfoot/another player with no salary coming back or doing something else to their roster.

Moving eller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>There have never been any reports the Leafs are shopping Kerfoot or anything. It's time for the obsession this place has with it to end. There have been reports on the type of money on the table now for Sandin both from the Leafs and his counter offers and they all come in at or under the $1,400,000 mark Liljegren got which makes a Kerfoot move wholly unnecessary. If someone if being moved for Sandin its going to be Holl which frankly makes sense given the logjam on defense and Sandin's worry about his role.
Beyond Kerfoot not making any sense to move, reports are also coming in now of players who will likely start the year on LTIR which kicks this entire problem down the road. You don't trade players when you are going to need them to start out.</div></div>
Yeah nobody's said that Dubas is moving Kerfoot; the whole point of ACGM is that idiot fans like us get to theorycraft moves GMs *could* make. The reason why Kerfoot is seen so much in these threads is because it makes a lot of sense and would likely be easy to do. Moving Holl's cap hit on its own isn't enough for Sandin to sign for even league minimum lol. Someone else would have to go. Plus if you move Holl then you have two lefties playing on their offside, which coaches generally don't love to do. Sure starting a player like Muzzin on LTIR buys time but you still have the same problem when you activate him. So expect to keep seeing Kerfoot at least until Dubas makes his move and probably after too lol

It's really never made sense to me why the Leafs would move Kerfoot.

If San Jose is willing, I'd be all for a Reimer to DC trade. Otherwise, I'd look at one of the Blackhawks goalies if either of them play well.

LInes look good. Only change I might make is moving either Mantha or Brown to the 1st line and dropping Oshie down, as I think they can provide a little better physicality to that line compared to Oshie. Otherwise maybe swap Mantha and Brown so they can play their natural sides again? I do like keeping Alexeyev up on IR and possibly giving him a chance to play when he returns.

It looks about the same to me. Garland would be alright, but the Jets really can't afford to move Pionk for him.
