At $2.2m he is also significantly cheaper than what Tanev will receive in FA.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>The retention alone would cost the Sens a 2nd. Still gotta pay for Murphy after that. A 2nd might get him without retention. Add to that the Hawks aren't looking to move Murphy. Moving him creates a hole both on the ice and in the room for a team that wants to get better this season. With retention, it's a 1st or the Hawks just pass.</div></div>
My thoughts exactly, I have stated before that Murphy costs an early 2nd without retention, the price goes up if the Hawks retain. A 1st or 2 x 2nds or a 2nd and decent prospect.

That's dumb. CHI fans are easily one of the most reasonable fanbases on this website, and I'm not just saying that because I am one, it is because I have experienced it. 'Market value' and 'the value he has to CHI's rebuild' are two entirely different things. If you don't understand why, that just sounds like you have no critical thinking skills.

I know he’s had an off year, but Murphy is still a top 4 defensive dman. Getting that for 2 years @ $2.2 a year (and the hawks needing to retain) will likely cost a 1st round pick. See the McCabe trade with Toronto a couple years ago for comparison

Can't see the Hawks spending a 3rd on Turcotte at this point. Be nice to see him find his way in the NHL but it doesn't seem too likely.

Early May 2 Rounds
Kyle Davidson's philosophy is to pick the best player available no matter the position on the "blackhawks" draft broad. How many times has KD showed his cards. This rumor out there that the hawks are very interested is Dickinson doesnt mean a thing. Scouting reports coming in as of late have some forwards (Sennecke, Parascak, Iginla) really moving up into the top 10 pushing some dmen back. We are very heavy in solid LHD prospects, we are light on highend forward prospects (especially RW). In my opinion the blackhawks would be looking at Demidov and Lindstrom as of right now. Demidov's creativity and hands are all world, yes he is a hair under 6' but he plays tough and doesnt shy away from physicality. It'll be interesting with CHL playoffs and U18 right now going on.

If Boisvert is still on the board at #20, Hawks would probably just pick him. The value in the trade isn't bad. But the Hawks would have zero interest in Del Gaizo. And not certain Fabbro is a player they'd trade down for either.

If the Hawks take Dickinson at 2, Davidson should be fired. I get it if he's the best guy on the board at 4 if Levshunov and Demidov are gone. But adding another LD with a premium asset just seems like a redundant waste

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireShanahanTrelivingKeefe</b></div><div>Are you all delusional, you are not going anywhere for a couple of years at least how does a 31 year old fit that plan better then a 24 year old lol .</div></div>
Yes, Lilypad is younger and obviously fits the rebuild window better. But that alone doesn't make this a trade the Hawks "can't refuse". The Hawks do not make this deal. The Hawks need a veteran, stay at home partner on the their 2nd pair to continue mentoring 20 y.o. Kevin Korchinski, former #7 overall pick and future likely top pair guy. And I'm not going to debate Lilypad's ability or upside. But he's not the type of D man the Hawks want to build around on their blue line. They are looking to have a big, physical, hard to play against D - similar to Vegas. And if the Hawks were to make Murphy available at 50% retained with two years left on his deal, the Hawks get better offers than a 1 for 1 swap for Lilypad. So that alone makes it an easy pass for the Hawks.

Marner trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Toronto can trade for the value of 1 year of Marner, but can't get value for the Hawks signing an extension which would have to happen after the trade. For that reason, the Hawks aren't giving up that much for a 1 year rental, which again, is the only value the Leafs own of Marner.</div></div>
You're right. If the Leafs can trade NMC Marner....and it's a big if, the value to the Leafs will be clearing 11m in cap space for other player(s), not a big return from the Hawks.
I tend to think Matthews might be willing to accept to some team, despite his NMC. He has four years at 13.4m. That could be a better trade for the "rebuilding" Leafs if they go that way.

Just from a hockey perspective I'd like to have Kane on Bedard's LW if a 3rd is all it takes. But just can't see the Hawks taking the chance that Kane does something dumb off the ice. Plus he's probably not waiving anyway.

Yikes. On its face, I think I agree, ChiHawk. On the other hand... they brought in Corey Perry this last year! I'd say it depends on how teammates and coaches value Evander, not us.
He does have a NMC clause, too. So, I doubt he waives to come to Chicago, anyway.
Cheers

IMO
All things considered, I don’t think the leafs need a Saros level of goalie, if we had a functioning Dcore. Woll is pretty good all things considered, and the leafs have two
B+ goalie prospects that will probably be up in the next 1-2 years</div></div>
The only thing consistent about Woll in his professional career is injuries. Hes fine as a backup and between he and Hildeby one might be a good/reliable backup. But leafs have shown year in/out that a regular season offensive powerhouse gets nowhere in the playoffs.
Goalie and defense HAVE to be addressed. Changing coaches and president aren;t the fix (although both should be done as well).

In the long term, maybe not, but he was pretty highly regarded in his D+1 year. At the very least, you're buying low on a guy who can give Bedard some actual talent to work with (especially if Nazar starts in RFD) to see if he can tap into that potential he was once thought to have. I think he can have an impact similar to Kurashev, if not better. Again, only if the price is right. A 2026 Toronto 2nd rounder doesnt strike me as a particularly high price.
