I keep being told Pettersson isn't available. I think the Jackets would rather trade players to fix your Bottom 6 problems rather than send a 1st rounder over.
The third rounder + Roslovic($1 million retained) + Bemstrom for Petterson and a late rounder?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I'll d*e on this hill: Peeke is Gudbranson-lite. He gets caved in and his physicality is wildly misplaced most of the time. He's always out of position, looks lost, and flails around trying to make hits that don't make sense. I'd move him to the first GM that thinks he's worth a 3rd or higher, and keep Boqvist who at least can move the puck (and pray he stays healthy). Blanks can be our fan-favorite 7th-D. </div></div>
I will say that I partially agree with you. We did watch him take an impressive stride in his development by the end of the year regarding most of your points. He still did all of that, but he did it less. I'm pretty sure he also played every game which is a pretty big deal in my book. I think he makes a good jump this offseason with a HC who understands the term "defensive gameplan".
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>"Danforth - Voronkov - Chinakhov for a couple months in the A to get Voronkov ready to step into the big league." -> I love this idea! </div></div>
Thank you! Not sure how to bring all three back up. Danforth was doing quite well alongside Gaudreau before his injury last year. Seems pretty "Make it or Break it" for his NHL career this year.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div> If we can stay in the top-3 and pick one of these two, it's an absolute win and I won't complain. Pipe dream is Bedard, ideal is Fantilli at #2, win is Carlsson at #3, heart attack is someone picks Michkov at #3 and we get Carlsson at #4, pain is Bedard, Fantilli, and Carlsson are all gone by the time we pick 4th. </div></div>
Anyone going in the Top 5 is an excellent pickup. Will Smith is pretty good consolation prize and Matvei Michkov (even with the situations surrounding him) could be worth the wait.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div> If Graves is actually left to walk, I'd absolutely push for him at 5x$5M, but I doubt NJ lets him go or that he comes that cheap. Pettersson isn't likely going anywhere (I'd hate to trade with the Pens anyway), so Mikkola would be fine...as long as he's not on the 2nd pair. Jarmo might have to get creative for LD.</div></div>
NJ will probably lose either Severson or Graves. With the RHD market right now, I bet NJ opts to pay up for him. Market price for Graves will probably be in the $4.25-4.75 million range but I agree he will go near $5.5. Carson Soucy could also be a UFA this year but he's option #3.

If Tarasov and Merzlinkins can’t get it done we'll need someone quickly.</div></div>
Jackets always seem to have a good G prospect in the pipeline. I know Sergei Ivanov is killing it for SKA right now.

The FA market isn't looking great for Centers this year. I figured Roslovic would satisfy the spot left by Granlund, assuming he's bought out.

To be honest, I figured that may be the case. I would be okay with floating a 2 year contract to Niko Mikkola instead and give Graves and Boqvist more minutes per night.

I certainly don't mind Jokiharju as a player, but I do mind him being on the Jackets. He fills a role already filled by too many RHD for them. Mattias Samuelsson is the type of d-man the Jackets need, but I would assume he's completely off the table.

Day Dreaming
For the Jackets to take this one on, I would think they ask for Logan Brown to be dropped off the deal and retention be added. Roslovic is quite valuable for the organization, being a hometown kid and co-face of the local hockey programs with Sean Kuraly. Even with him underperforming his contract, I think they ask for another pick be added instead of Logan Brown.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Both pretty bad deals for the Blues. But the signings aren't bad and it probably makes us a better team.
Roslovic isn't much of a center, he's at least young though. Probably worth a 3rd. Don't think it'll take a 1st to move Krug. But i think finding somewhere for him to go would be rather difficult. Not sure if i'ts worth moving a first to do so this offseason though. Brown is probably worthless.
Don't think we'll need to pay to dump scandella unless we are gung-ho on doing it this offseason vs the deadline. Which i get the premise of this is to do it for cap space.
Definitely don't love a 5x5 of Graves, especially if we're paying to offload Krug/Scandella in order to do so. Defense certainly looks more balanced though.</div></div>
I certainly expect a hot market for Ryan Graves with Columbus weaponizing that $20ish million to build a defense. Mayfield looks a little high to me, but that may be the price of doing business with RHD these days.

Adding another defender
I assume the Jackets could circle back around to Kulak if they know they are out of the race for Graves, Severson, or Soucy in FA. They desperately need a big #2LD to set up next to Jiricek next year. Certainly will have to be a post draft trade from the Jackets side unless someone panic buys Kulak. I would guess that a 3rd round pick in '24 would be necessary to match the value of this year's 4th rounder.

I would much rather see the Killorn money be spent on defensive upgrades with Ryan Graves, Carson Soucy, or Damon Severson. For that $6 million and dropping Bean to somewhere the Jackets could be in play for at least two of them while keeping enough money to pay the future ELC graduates their big boy contracts.

If the Flyers are now seriously interested in a rebuild
Kevin Hayes is an intriguing pick up for the Jackets. His salary cap is not. If the deal had retainage on it, it would possibly be worthwhile. I can't see Jarmo taking on a 30 year old second line center with a $7+ million cap hit and a m-ntc, for 3 more years with a bunch of young guys needing contracts in the next couple years. Not to mention he needs the salary to pick up defensive upgrades in FA this year.

Kekalainen goes crazy
Why would moving Jiricek, the Jackets #2 RHD next year, accelerate the timeline? Guhle likely starts on the bottom pairing below Graves and Werenski and slotting him in next to Gudbranson is a recipe for disaster. If it's a change of scenery kind of move, the Jackets have 3 players under team control that are available in Foudy, Bemstrom, or Bean. Take your pick.
Jackets have the money to big game hunting for LHD and better Center play in Free Agency next year and I doubt trading their top prospect for Guhle is anywhere near the table.

Briere as GM
I doubt Columbus is one of the teams Kevin Hayes takes a trade to, but I think this would be a trade worth pondering for Jarmo. I would ask for more to be retained to get him closer to Roslovic's cap hit at $4 million, for a bit more in return from Columbus of course.
I'm more interested in Morgan Frost, to be honest. Is he doing better after his early season issues with Torts?

He probably still has the highest upside, but he's taken too many freak injuries. I love the play he brings to the power play, but 5v5 he blocks a shot with a joint or the top of his foot and goes back to injured reserve.

The Nyquist deal is intriguing, and I think the Jackets would accept that. I think you could drop either Hallander or Heinen (preferably Heinen) off that deal and it would get done unless Jarmo decides he values a 2nd rounder more than a young center.

Gavrikov isn't taking a 3x3 deal. If that was the case, he would have already signed that extension in Columbus. You're going to have to double that salary at least.
Also, that return is nowhere near enough for him and Roslovic. Gavrikov is this year's first and third rounder and Roslovic with retention is at least a second and a sweetener. Hirvonen looks like alright an alright return for Roslovic if a pick gets thrown in, but Holl, Engvall, and the incorrect year's first rounder are not worth the remaining value needed to pry Jarmo's tight grip off both of these guys.

adding picks
Surprisingly, this is the first I've seen too much coming back in a Nyquist trade. I think if that were to go through, Toronto would add a bad contract and drop Hollowell. This will also need to happen after the Korpisalo trade.
The Vegas trade is accepted even with it being next year's 3rd rounder. Any missed value is easily covered by an okay center prospect with good team chemistry with Brisson who has former teammates from his UM days. This is a really nice trade and I appreciate the finer details on this one. I think the Jackets could add a late rounder.
Texier is not available for anything less than a 1st rounder and even then I don't think he gets traded until he returns from the mental health program. I really like Jordan Greenway, but this trade will need different assets on the Jackets side.

You're not going to able to keep your 1st rounders in the Meier and Gavrikov trades. The prospect pool doesn't have the top quality players needed in their respective team positions of need to sway either of these teams from demanding a first rounder. And in Meier's case, you don't have enough top prospects to cover multiple first rounders.

He was 4th overall, yes. But all signs are pointing toward him being a bust with a 3 million dollar contract. He's worth a third or fourth rounder to a team looking for a reclamation project. Even then, he's a cap dump that has a chance of going back to Europe after this year.
The long established price for Gavrikov is a first and a third. Gavrikov is a good Top 4 LHD and decent stop gap player in the top pairing. Saying he's not that good is laughably incorrect. And don't bother pointing towards "underlying metrics". Those stats don't matter for players who are on terrible teams unless you're willing to break the team down as a whole and notice he's the only bright spot on a team that doesn't play defense.
