The rangers just made a trade to create cap space, are the islanders not allowed to do that? The isles have multiple players they can move that have positive value in the trade market.
Toews is our PP1 QB and best offensive defenseman. He’s not going anywhere unless someone blows lou away with an offer. Let’s be real, you want to see an offersheet but realistically there are many defenseman ahead of toews that teams would offersheet. Well be lucky to see 1 OS this off season.</div></div>
looks like two 2nds was all it took to blow Lou away for Toews.

Interesting, I had no idea. I'd still see him getting more than 1.25 but probably not by as much as I previously said.

EH projected Simmonds to get 3.5 mill x 3. Do you really think a team is going to give him that? The two teams that have spoken with him are Toronto and calgary.</div></div>
Simmonds isn't worth 3.5 mil at all, he was terrible last season on a 5 million dollar deal. Brassard on the other hand had a solid season and can be a very good 3rd line center for teams, and the price for that is around 3 million imo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ForsbergForVezina</b></div><div>Tbh, I think you're both right. I do think Leddy's analytics are a little misleading and those same microstats say he's at the top of the league when it comes to shooting and o-zone entries. He's an excellent skater and I think with some more leeway, he could stick in a top-4 for as a solid puckmover/power play point man. That said, it's well known that he isn't amazing defensively, so that is definitely worth taking into account.
As for Toews, I think Marcus Petterson and Rasmus Andersson are comparable players to him. Not sure if he'll get less due to the flat cap, so I'm guessing a little on that, but I think something along those lines is reasonable</div></div>
Those are good comparisons but Toews's offensive capabilities are much better than both those guys. Idk if you're familiar with him, but Jfreshhockey on twitter is a well-known hockey analytics guy and he makes his own models to determine market value (not contract projections) and Toews is north of $9,000,000. He's crazy good and any team would be blessed to have him.

If brassard takes a 1 year 1 mill dollar deal, he’ll be re-signed. With the amount of players not receiving QO, there will not be any team that will give brassard north of 1.5 mill.</div></div>
I highly doubt that. A guy that scored 32 points in 66 games on a defense-first team will most definitely get a deal north of $1.5 million.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Toews isn’t getting more than 4-4.25 mill on a 4 year deal.
The isles have already taken calls on Leddy. The reason why his advanced stats haven’t been good is because he’s been saddled with a bottom 5 defenseman in the league. He had multiple games in the playoffs with over 70% xGF% playing with Andy Greene and he still one of the best defenseman at leading the rush in the league.</div></div>
advanced stats are isolating. His impact on the ice is reflected by his analytics, and the people he plays with do not change that. Having multiple good games in the playoffs does not mean much considering the small sample size. He's also not a very good transition defenseman with a possession exit% of 32%, and a possession exit against% of 24%. He's not good, at all, and you would have to pay to get rid of him. And Toews is projected to get more than 4-4.25 mil by multiple contract projections, including that of EvolvingHockey.

The problem with fans of rival teams is you cant be objective because you state what you want to see happen, not what will actually happen.
I guess the rangers prioritize fast over deangelo because they’re working on a contract with him, right?
The islanders will not get Laine and they do not have to trade ladd or boychuk to sign toews. You seem to ignore that the isles can trade Leddy + cizikas and buyout clutterbuck to create cap space.</div></div>
Brassard is projected to get 3.1 million from EvolvingHockey. A $1 million dollar salary is for 4th liners, and Brassard established himself as a solid middle 6 guy this season for the Isles. I suppose you are right that there are other options the Isles could pursue to create cap space, but it may not work out that way, and as you said, a fan of a rival team such as myself always looks at the worst possible scenario.

Toews and Barzal will want more than that if they are taking long term deals. NJ shouldn't accept that deal either, as they are exchanging two bad players, but getting the one with the worse contract.

Lou is working on a deal with Brassard which can be expected to be around $3 million or more. He also has to find a way to get rid of major cap hits such as Ladd and Boychuck, but is trying to acquire Laine. And then, he has to try and convince Barzal to take a bridge deal. Of course an offersheet isn't that likely and the Isles will most probably find a way around this mess, but Toews is a phenomenal defenseman and is very offersheet prone, and Lou does not need to be blown away by the offer if he is forced to accept it.

yeah but with a cap situation that is not at all favorable, and other guys who Lou seems to prioritize over him (Barzal, Pulock, Brassard) getting big contracts, you might still lose him for nothing with an offersheet

Sabres get a solid center for a cheap amount. If they’re not willing to pay a 2nd and 4th, I’m sure some other team will, I just chose them off the top of my head.
As for Devon Toews, his analytics show that he’s been one of the best defenseman in the league these past two years. Excellent two-way impact and an overall solid top pairing LD.

Assuming you miss out on Pietrangelo, your only RHD is Zach Whitecloud. Tony DeAngelo, next to the right defensive partner, is a top pair defenseman. His offensive abilities and powerplay quarterback abilities are near the best amongst defenseman in the league. A 1st and 3rd is very reasonable for him, especially considering how late the 1st is.

Andersson wants out and most likely will never play a game in a Rangers jersey. Howden is not ever going to be a top 6 center, his game will never reach that point. Chytil has potential to be a great 2nd liner, but that would take another year, and there’s no guarantee. Sure, there’s people coming up, but Danault’s game would be more valuable on the 2nd line which is why I don’t think he’ll have the same problem again.

I don’t think he would be in the same role though. He would be above Chytil on the depth chart and slot in as our 2C next to Panarin, which is a role I’d think most players would be happy with. He would play against other top lines and have the role of shutting them down, but also would have an offensive role which comes with being next to Panarin and Kakko.
