Fabbri at 2M for 1 season (while also carrying the TB/VGK LTIR usage as a frequent flyer to LTIR except last season) is far better than pursuing a free agent and overpaying (look no further than Detroit as proof with Holl/Chiarot signings being higher than expected with smaller but still decent length term) for the same production. Happens for most teams, to which the following season is filled with buyers' remorse. If Fabbri needs to be dealt, securing a 3rd or a different style player (downgraded) would not be difficult. If cap is that big of an issue.... a 5th (less than Sundqvisst) to a middling/rebuilding team to flip him at the deadline would be very easy, as he is excellent in the face off dot, has speed and a motor, and is nearly 20 goals (at 2M).

Justin Holl can and most likely gets bought out if the math lines up. Had Petry been traded earlier, I don't think SY signs him. Could be wrong, but I think the Petry deal was in the works for a while with uncertainty. Would definitely need to attach value to him as he is the literal definition of a cap dump. There are other ways prior to wasting draft capital to help with his 3.4M.

Ville Husso has only hurt his stock since joining Detroit. Now the constant injury bug may be the end. No team will willingly take him at that cap hit with those injuries and this much inconsistency.

Maata - See Fabbri, but to a lesser degree. Most teams could use a 3rd pairing steady defenseman / added depth for one season, as opposed to overspending term and AAV in free agency. Also a very easy flippable asset at the TDL for a cup champion without term.

RFA signings hard to say but I'd be happy with it (honestly would be very happy with it).

UFA signings - Blocking the kids with Gustafsson. Johansson needs to get his shot or be moved as Wallinder is probably a year to 1.5 away, Buium behind him. Decisions need to be made on the left hand side, and Walman would only have 1 year left. There are too many LHD in the system. Now if a Buium or AJ or Wallinder is moved for other pieces, reducing that number, it would be much more manageable.

BM and JM signings are rushing the process. That 15M could very easily become a problem, as showcased by PLD/Huberdeau etc. Not all players do the same or better on new teams, and there is no indication that Montour would fit. Not only that, but is Detroit the destination these guys would choose? 90s-00s, absolutely. The last decade (excluding last season with Kane/Cat), not so much. Luckily it is becoming closer to a destination players would choose again. Those two also don't make the Wings Cup contenders.

Berggren takes Sprong's spot. For as well as Sprong did, there were glaring deficiencies, proven by his benching when it mattered at the end of the season. Burgers is rocking the AHL playoffs and has also shown for a good part of the NHL season he belongs.

Soderblom is not ready for the NHL, and will take longer to develop. I would love him to be there, but his play has shown he lacks consistency / usage of his traits in his game right now.

*edit*
Lyon has shown he can't be THE guy for THAT long. In spurts he is an absolute gem, but as time and games go on he is tandem 1B at very best, while being a very solid backup at an incredible price.
