But yes, we will have assets and I have to think we compete in 2-3 years. The addition of Brackett is going to add value to each of the picks we have and build that foundation. I don’t think we’d be cup competitive until Rossi enters his prime but I really do like the forward thinking.</div></div>
This is my personal opinion of the organization, but I have never been more excited for the future until Bill Guerin came along. I can honestly say I can see the direction he is going.

Russo couldn’t give a definitive answer on which prospect it was, but we can all do the math. And I think <a href="/users/Lightman13" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Lightman13</a> is correct.

The highlights of him show how well he skates. Definitely a solid prospect to add to the pipeline.

Personally, I would have liked to see Boldy for Lundell go down. Lundell was rumored to be the guy MIN liked. Lundell is definitely a center and the only reason Boldy took off last year in the second half at BC was because he moved to wing. Skilled wingers are way easier to come by than top-six centers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lightman13</b></div><div>fiala and KK are untouchable for anyone short of a McDavid or Matthews status.. they are not getting traded under any circumstance unless it is for someone more 'game breaking'. Rossi is also probably lumped into that category at this point in time until the wild see what comes next in his development. I could see khovanov being added to a dumba boldy package, but not rossi. On another note - I think the idea of playing with another russian in KK at the same level, similar age, skill, development etc would appeal to barkov for free agency.
Side note - I think the new deals you have for fiala and KK will be the other way around, but about that on dollars. I expect a small adjustment period to impact KK.</div></div>
I gave Kaprizov more because there is always the threat of Russians wanting less term so they are closer to UFA. It buys more time with the Wild. Barkov is actually Finnish, but your points hit the nail on the head.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>I think the price was always a pick and prospect. The idea that we could turn Dumba into a 1C was always a pipe dream and I have a feeling he was offered to WPG at the draft for 10OA. Perhaps he was also offered to FLA for 12OA as Friedman suggested but I’m struggling with the fit.
I do think you’re locked into GMBG’s logic about when to trade him though. It’s hard to see MIN as a contender with Dumba in the lineup since we have holes elsewhere to fill. If he can bring in a guy who’s on the top line in 2 years, that’s a win in my book.</div></div>
That last line you said is why I had no issues with the Luke Kunin trade. He’s not a top-line player, but the point is the same. To get a player (Marat Khusnutdinov) who has more raw skill than Kunin who may be better in two years.

I’d love to have him but I just hope we are able to put the pieces around him at the same time.</div></div>
Also, I would be hesitant to trade Fiala and Kaprizov because the Wild finally found game-breaking talent after never having it since Marian Gaborik. The process of finding one again would have to be done all over again.

In my opinion, if the Wild are set on trading Dumba, they need to add to him to bring in quality, whether that’s other roster players, picks, or prospects. That way if they can get a top-tier player, even if it may not be a 1C. Not sure how interested they would be in the prospect - 1st round pick route. That’s why it’s best to wait to make a trade until at least in-season, most likely next offseason.

I think the 3 part package is a good framework, but the main piece really does matter. Honestly, I would part with either Fiala or Kaprizov in a heartbeat to get Barkov.</div></div>
That’s your opinion. The Wild will have the roster space and the money to make a move like this with the way Bill Guerin has reshaped the roster. The Wild will be close to contending by then and will be able to make a pitch to Barkov as good as any other team in the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>It does nothing for MN. It just makes them worse and adds even more bad cap to the team. You're trading away a middle-6 wing and a bottom-6 wing for a pure cap dump and an overpayed 4th line wing. And all there is to show is a late 1st and a late 2nd for the deal. At best you flip Clutterbuck for another 2nd at the TDL in a season and a half.
You could probably flip Hartman for a 2nd/3rd at the TDL this year if you wanted because he's not a true rental and is a guy Playoff teams are always looking for. Parise is overpayed for what he is as a player, but he's still a quality NHL player.</div></div>
Disagree. This return is better than the one that nearly went through at the trade deadline. The second rounder is more valuable to me than Kiefer Bellows. I would rather see a younger player in there rather than Parise, even if it means taking a step back.
Also, Ryan Hartman will not be traded for only a draft pick at the deadline. The teams in the hunt will be cap-strapped.

There is very little salary being added on in the end by the Wild. About $500,000. The Islanders are shedding salary.

Patrik Laine
I have been thinking about trade targets for the Wild over the past week for the 2021-2022 season. One that stuck out to me was Patrik Laine. He will be expensive for the Jets going forward and they already have other pricey wingers in Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor, and Blake Wheeler. The Jets also have Cole Perfetti knocking on the door as the 2C and Kristian Vesalainen looking for a spot. This all depends on where the Wild are at as an organization next summer, but if they prove they are better than everyone expected, it might make sense to make a splash like this. It would add a lethal weapon to the forward group that the Wild have never had before in the history of the franchise. This is also contingent upon Laine signing an extension with the Wild to buy a lot of his UFA years. Here is a mock trade I have come up with:
To Minnesota:
F - Patrik Laine
To Winnipeg:
D - Matt Dumba
F - Vladislav Firstov
2021 1st Round Pick - MIN
Feel free to tag Jets fans as well.
