Trust the Process
Hate to break it to you, but 34 year old goalies with .890 save percentages and 3 years left at $5.25M don’t return 2nd round picks.

Is this enough for Number 1
This would never happen, but the Sharks would be smart to take that deal as long as Chicago’s 2025 1st is unprotected. Take Levshunov this year, and then you’ll likely have two top 5 picks next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hnlnz</b></div><div>Does that mean a player worth $5M getting paid $5M has zero value? Wouldn't that mean teams could trade nothing for a free asset???</div></div>
It means that player has zero surplus value, and depending on things like age and term probably wouldn’t return much in a trade.

2024-25 Canucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hnlnz</b></div><div>How overpaid do you think he is? I don't think all players who are overpaid have negative value. For example, if a player is worth $8M but gets paid $9M, I think he would still have positive value.</div></div>
That literally makes no sense. If a player’s production is worth $8M, but his cap hit is $9M, he has -$1M of value.
The Athletic’s model has Mikheyev’s production worth $3.6M which means he has -$1.2M of value. There’s no reason for the Sharks to take that negative value for free.

He has negative value based on the fact his cap hit is $4.8M. Teams need to include sweeteners to get rid of players who have negative value.

Sharks decline. Why on earth would we trade our best player from last year and a 2nd round pick for two 30+ players who aren’t that good?

Sharks decline. Even with retention, Anderson is still a negative asset. Sharks already have too many LD, so Harris doesn’t make sense.

Take what you can get.</div></div>
The Karlsson deal where he got the 14th overall pick in this draft as well as Granlund who was very good for us this year? What is your other example of Grier getting “burned”?

You get two 2nd’s & two 3rd’s
Plus, you get to flip every single player for more picks.
Sharks could come out with 7 picks from this deal.
Picks are like gold for the Sharks at this point.</div></div>
Sorry, but it’s going to take at least 1 premium asset (late 2nds don’t count) to take that Campbell contract.

If all the RD are off the board like in this scenario, I could see the Sharks doing this. I’d prefer they just keep the pick and draft MBN though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>I mean I guess, if they let Addison walk. Lundkvist has been far and away the worst Star in these playoffs.
But then again Grier is cornering the market on player with "Lund" in their name, so I'm all for the memes</div></div>
I think the acquisition cost is low enough for this to be a no brainer for Grier. The Sharks don’t have much in the org at RD, and honestly that 5th can be recouped pretty easily elsewhere.
