Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2024-25 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: May 10, 2024
Published: May 10, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
San Jose - gets the second 1st after all. They would now have #1, #10, #14 (on top of an already solid prospect group). They could add Celebrini, two dmen.

Jersey - we are already the 6th youngest team…but setting up for a loooong window. Adding three guys with a ton of team control.

all this does is set us back, Bystedt showing he may be able to exceed expectations, and Zetterlund already has

The Sharks would like that pick, but those aren't the types of assets they want to be moving.

I don’t think I’d give up 10th overall for that. I like Zetterlund, but he needs a role I don’t think we can give him.

I’m not an expert on Bystedt, so someone would have to give me the sales pitch on him and tell me about him as a player

Big bodied center, came over to the AHL at the end of the year and kind of lit it up as a 20 year old. can probably play anywhere in the top 9 at some point in his career, seems to be exceeding expectations, but its too early to tell most likely. I just don't think it makes sense for either team to be moving assets like this. Type of player Mike Grier probably loves

Yeah definitely sounds like a fit in NJD as a guy who you hope to be an elite 3C long term behind Jack and Nico

I think the value is fair but neither team does it. Zetterlund is looking excellent in SJS but without the opportunity I don’t know if he’d be as good in NJD in a smaller role.

I think I may also want to at least try to give that role to an in house option, whether it’s Clarke (who’s had a similar progression to Zetterlund becoming a sort of AHL superstar, or starting 25-26 (hopefully) Gritysuk.

What? At this point Bystedt is generally trending higher than his original draft position. Sharks might trade for the 10th, but it would be almost straight up for Bystedt with a later round pick added. People are fooled by so much media attention nowadays for incoming draft class that they are putting higher value on kids than they are. Beyond Celebrini and Demindov, its a crapshoot. Just like last year where it is a crapshoot beyond the 3.

NJD biggest issue is G, so I would imagine they make the move with the 10th for an established G.

Bysedt is the target…Zetterlund was an additional “I like him too” addition. It was originally going to be our 1st for Bystedt and the 2nd we traded them in Timo trade.

Bystedt is big-body-soft-hands type who bullies his way to pucks around crease. Could evolve into 3C or winger higher up in lineup … and become PP net front option.

Bysedt plus NJD 2nd for 10th overall was my original instinct. But Zetterlund was really liked in Jersey…so switched it up. With addition of Mack and Edstrom, Shark pool is looking a little forward-heavy, so #10 and #14 allows them two bites of the apple with deep defensive cohort in this years draft.

You are going to have to overpay to obtain a drafted player that has shown an increase in value. No way you get Bystedt and a 2nd. Even if it theoretically works 'value' wise there is no reason for GMMG to do it unless a player at 10 is available that has more potential value than what Bystedt has shown. Not sure that exists besides Buium and he is likely top 5.

The thinking more about rebalancing the group to add more defense. Any young forward group with Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini will score plenty.

If Buium makes it to #10, we’d probably just take him. Same with Dickinson. I am guessing the following guys will be gone: Celebrini, Levshunov, Buium, Dickinson, Demidov, Catton….and then maybe Lindstrom, Eiserman, Parekh. That would leave guys like Jiricek, Emery, Yakemchuk, Sahlin Wallenius, Kiviharju etc for #10/#14

I don't agree on the value.
This really depends who is on the board at 10.

If Iggy is on the board at 10... I'd rather have him than both those 2 players, as I think he's going to be really good.

Depending how the draft board rolls out, the value of this can swing either way for both teams.
