Thread: Risky but
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DaHabs</b></div><div>Fair enough I can understand that perspective. Mine is that bonino has nothi g really to offer after this year wear poehling does. This will be really his first year of pro hockey. Last year was a write off for him and can’t be used to judge his true value. He is a natural leader WJC MVP. And a big game player. He will in fact be a beauty of a power forward in the nhl. That is his true value even if he never gets there that is what he is worth that is what his draft value same as every other first round d pick.

Poehlj g is on his way up bonino is on his way down and out. Like I said and cones from a big Minnesota hockey family. Really a no brainer for minny</div></div>

What he did in the WJC is nice, but means nothing when it comes to pro hockey. What he did last year in the AHL/NHL is what matters; and it wasn't much. He's 22 ow and in his 2nd season of pro hockey. He has potential, yes, but that's all it is at this point. Maybe he figures it out, maybe he doesn't; that is the risk for MN.

Bonino gives MTL a Danault replacement for the rest of the season in your scenario. You'll need to pay TDL prices for Bonino, other teams will be bidding on him too. In "win now" mode you pay a premium and forgo some of your future for that chance at the Cup. It's why MTL shouldn't trade Danault (better than Bonino) and just treat him like a rental they didn't have to pay for, then let him walk after the Playoffs.

If this is the best offer MN gets for Bonino they might as well just keep him and get bounced in the 1st round of the Playoffs by Vegas or COL.
