4th line player I like, a little grit and, good energy and good on PK. Good signing, should have been for at least two years.

Buffalo Sabres signed Marcus Johansson (2 Years / $4,500,000 AAV)
BOTs has done very well this summer. Skinner was an overpay but absolutely required. We desperately need depth scoring and run 4 lines hard in waves. This signing helps. Our D is better now too. Goaltending is average at best. I miss the Hasek days. Hasek-like goaltending plus the current team would equal at least a playoff spot........what ifs eh?
D good, one more forward, better Goaltending is what puts this team on par with the big teams in our conf.

Buffalo Sabres signed Jeff Skinner (8 Years / $9,000,000 AAV)
They had so sign him, it's an overpay by 1 to 1.5 per year so he'd stay in Buffalo. He could have went anywhere but he chose Buffalo. Everyone knows this.
He probably has another team willing to go 8.5 or 9 for 7 years.
If BOTS didn't sign him we'd all be pissed. Imagine how much more pathetic the team would be (if that's possible) without him.
Dont like the no trade.
Overpay: Agree........Necessary: Absolutely.

(BUF/NYR) - 2021 3rd round pick for Vesey
I don't understand why you would bring a player here who has previously made it clear he doesn't want to be in Buffalo by choosing NYR over BUF.
UFA next year, 3rd for a potentially 1 year rental . Apparently, he's a buddy of Jack's so who knows. Can't see fans warming up to him either, unless he really performs.
Are the Sabres better? Maybe......chances of a 3rd rounder playing in the NHL are low so getting a confirmed 2/3 line NHL player I think is a win.
Regardless, I'm still ticked he didn't sign with Buffalo originally.

(VGK/BUF) - Miller for 2021 2nd RD pick and 2022 5th RD pick
Honestly dont know much about this player. Looking at his CF profile looks like given a better opportunity in Buffalo he may have a huge upside and possibly a steal for the Sabres.
Please don't trade Risto.

Thread:
2019 Off Season
Housley - Must go. Worst Coach I've seen in the history of NHL hockey. The mistakes I'm seeing I'd be ticked watching a Midget or Bantam team make. Besides being short on good players the system Phil has going on is a big cause of the problem. Defense first, not run and gun, gamble with D leaving odd man rushes over and over again.
Forwards:
Eichel, Jack "C" Keep
Okposo, Kyle "A" Keep
Skinner, Jeff - Must Sign (Not over 9 Mil, although really he has the Sabres over a barrel at this point.)
Pominville, Jason - Too Slow to be effective anymore. Love Pommer though.
Reinhart, Sam - Keep
Sobotka, Vladimír - AHL or trade
Sheary, Conor - Keep (One more year)
Girgensons, Zemgus - Not good enough to be in NHL. Trade for bag of pucks.
Larsson, Johan - Not good enough to be in NHL. Trade for bag of pucks.
Wilson, Scott - Maybe 4th line or AHL
Mittelstadt, Casey - Too slow and too weak to play in NHL. AHL for development
Nylander, Alexander - AHL not ready yet
Olofsson, Victor - 4th line
Rodrigues, Evan - 4th line
We need 4 more forwards. BOTs needs to pick up one player in a trade and sign smart senior but still fast older players short term while AHL team develops and wins Championships. Short term solution, one or two year deals for these vet players. Not looking for stars just solid 3rd line players.
Ristolainen, Rasmus - Keep -If they trade Risto I'm going to go buy a Leafs jersey. He is the best D we have at the moment. Yes, even better than Dahlin for now.
Bogosian, Zach "A" - Keep or Trade if the price is right. Solid D helps our team. 2/4 on D depth.
Sandella, Marco - Trade, if the price is right. He's OK as a 4/6 D
Montour, Brandon - Reel him in offensively. Make him play D first. Gamble only occasionally. Could be 3/6 depth player next year
McCabe, Jake - Keep. He's somewhere in the 3 to 6 D range
Pilut, Lawrence - AHL - Hit the gym and get some size
Dahlin, Rasmus - Someone needs to un-Housley him. The mistakes he makes I can't count.
Borgen, William - Has potential. Maybe for next year
Nelson, Casey - Yep - Keep
Things actually look OK on D IMO despite our GAA. Its Housley (case in point Lehner in NYI same SV% as Hutton this year, goes to NYI to be one of the best in NHL) and bad goaltending. We one goalie anyway.
Goalies
Hutton, Carter - Keep. Only goalie we have. .910 SV% is not good enough but best we have. With a Defense first Coach he will be better.
Ullmark, Linus - AHL - This experiment has been a failure. Below average goalie. Very slow in lateral movement. How does and NHL goalie get beat on a wrap around so many times?
Sign another backup, give Hutton the heavier load.
Probably the best thing would be to sell the team to Seattle and give us the expansion franchise. We'd probably be further ahead.
Frustrated Sabres Fan here. Been patient but I just needed to vent.

(BUF/WPG) - Beaulieu for 2019 6th round pick
The Sabres have good depth at #5,#6 and #7 D-Man position....LOL. But Beaulieu for a 6th rounder is just a bad trade. The guy never got a fair shot here. 26 yrs old and an RFA still who could turn out to be a optimistic #4/#5 D (potential)? I think we gave him away for well..................nothing. I know someone needed to go when we picked up Montour but, I would have liked to see more in return., at least a third rounder.
Gave up an NHL level player for a 6th round pick that will likely never play a game in the NHL. 100% loss on the balance sheet of hockey if you ask me.

Confirmed: (ANA/BUF) - Montour for Guhle and 2019 1st round pick
Honestly don't know enough about Montour to judge the fairness of this deal but our #2 defense prospect and a first seems like a heavy payment.
I'm going to trust BOTs knows what he's doing, I'm happy to see he's active. Every little bit helps.
Someone from our current NHL D core will be on the move now. Probably Beaulieu, which is too bad, he's a decent player. I get nervous every time someone mentions Risto in a trade. Easily our best D man at the moment.

(CAR / BUF) - Pu and picks for Skinner
GM - BOTs possibly GM MVP of the off-Season. We got Skinner for a depth prospect and a bag of magic beans. Proven vs prospect we'll have to see how that plays out but high risk. PU may only pan out to be a 2-4th line winger or Career AHL but I think he'll be in NHL for sure. Very solid, tough to lose him but that's the price.
Yep, Buffalo is in a bad position to sign him now with all they gave up to get him. Likely overpay, (Sabres are in a bad bargain position) but hope not. Worst case, if contract talks don't look good, trade at deadline may get some assets back. Likely a first rounder after lightning it up with #9 or Mitts.
The only Red Flag is after reading just a little research is that Canes don't like his defensive game, I hope that doesn't continue in Buffalo . Defense is so critical for this team to improve, having said that we also need to score. Overall Sabres win for today on this trade but won't know for 3-5 years on the prospects. Gotta be honest though, I think Carolina got fleeced.
Sabres are better now than they were yesterday. I think like the other poster there is a good chance to make the playoffs. (Not just Skinner but the whole off-Season)
At least there is hope again in Buffalo.
Summary: Sabres traded for a stud (1st or 2nd line) winger for a hot flaming bag of PU & a bag of magic beans (late picks) left on Carolina's doorstep. BOT's rang the doorbell and ran down the street laughing all the way........possibly to the playoffs.

Seems like we have a lot of fringe NHLers with the Sabres. It would be nice if one or two could be a surprise and add something to the big club. We haven't seen much of O'Regan, looks promising.

From 91 all the way down in into the Marlies they look great.

Or was he the worst goalie in the league? He's a hot head on the ice (fact) and rumors in the Buffalo media is he is unhealthy in the dressing room (speculation). I put little weight on the media though.
For 1.5M, yes good signing, little risk. Hopefully he can turn things around for his sake and the NYI, but I must say he was my least favorite Sabre. Lost us a lot of games and sucks on shootouts (can't blame D on those)
