Looking Ahead
Despite all the disappointment I think this team is in a very good spot come 2023-24 season. We’ll see how quickly Holtz progresses in a top 6 role but given how he has looked in addition to playing with Jack or Nico I think he’s gonna be a goal scoring threat. Goaltending still might be something we address once again in a year or two depending on how the 1A/1B of Vanecek and Mack look, otherwise we have no reason to be worried

I think Cooley is a great prospect with a higher ceiling than Wright, I’ve seen from many sources that Arizona loves Cooley and will pay a large price to move up to grab him. If the devils have to trade the 2OA to get Chychrun I’m all for it

100% agree. MTL has not told Wright nor Slaf who will be picked however they met with one of the two this morning and it was Slaf. If he is taken at 1 I’d much rather trade pick to a team looking to rebuild (ie: CHI) so they can take Wright

Down the Road
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>Lol. Kakko is much better if you actually watch the 2 play. The only reason why Hughes has more hype than Kakko is because Hughes is playing in North America. If Kakko was, all the hype would be on him. He's setting records in the Finnish elite league as a teenager playing against men. Hughes is setting records as a teenager against other teenagers.
Kakko > Hughes</div></div>
Alright whatever helps you sleep at night. I've watched both play in-depth, and Hughes in person so I may be a little bias there. I don't think you are providing strong enough reasoning though. So what Hughes is playing against other players around his age. USNTDP has produced guys like Matthews, Eichel, Keller in recent years who did the same. Hughes now holds the USNTDP record in points and assists with very impressive company behind him in recent years. They have also have produced Patrick Kane if you're looking for a size and play style comparable. Just because Kakko is playing against older men in Liiga doesn't mean he automatically will take his record setting play to the NHL. Look at Jesse Puljujarvi for example. Hughes is playing against more NHL caliber talent in NA despite the competition being younger. Liiga is full of grown and talented players, but many who could not even step foot in the NA professional setting. Just my opinion, I am not trying to take anything away from Kakko and his great potential just believe Hughes should be first off the board.

You'd also be smarter to take Kakko instead of Hughes with the pick. The point of having the #1 pick is to take the best player available.
Kakko > Hughes</div></div>
Lol and therefore the Devils select the far and away best prospect in this draft, Jack Hughes. ;)

Devils sign Carlson summer 2018, trade for Duchene now.
Love the Carlson move, however that is a bit of an overpayment. Between 6-6.5 seems right for him. Hopefully he gives us a hometown discount like Shattenkirk did with the Rangers. Don't think COL does that deal. That 2019 pick could be mid-round, as I see the Devils well out of the basement at that time and competing for a playoff spot. Along with a 2nd and one of our top prospects in Boqvist for 2 years of Duchene. If we were to give up a first it'd be a 2018, which will most likely be a lottery pick in an extremely talented/deep draft (that is very D heavy as well). I don't see Shero and Sakic as trade partners for Duchene. Also not sure if Speers develops into a top line winger especially that quick, but that be great if he did. I see him as a middle 6 complementary piece to other players on his line at full development.

Looking Ahead 1 Year
I like it. By next year I also see Zajac and Greene out of here too. Ever since I brought up the idea of bringing home Carlson on here a few months backs it's been popular among Devils' fans. Carlson was a huge Devils fan growing up during their late 90's early 00's dominance.

I like everything, yet I don't see us making a push for Tavares. Especially by next year Nico will be our 1C. I've also played around with a Hanifin trade in the past, could potentially work. I do believe that we will be the frontrunner for Carlson next offseason. Hometown guy, Devils fan growing during their time of dominance.

Some consider him to bust, however I still like what he brings. However Palmieri looks to be a 25-30 goal scorer for the foreseeable future. If he didn't fall into a slump early this season he would've put up much more than 26G. From December to March he was scoring on a 40 goal pace. The trade makes sense based on the age factor, but Palmieri's intangibles with him being a Jersey boy I can't see Shero trading him. Once Greene is gone Palmieri looks to be the frontrunner for the captaincy.</div></div>
I see where you're coming from regarding Dal Colle, but I wouldn't write him off yet - He is still a #5 overall pick. (granted I have time-stamped posts saying that I wanted William Nylander - lol oh well). Dal Colle is falling victim to a log jam that NYI has up front. He had a nice first AHL season and I don't expect that he will need to marinate there much longer.
Not a bad argument either about Palmieri, I just viewed him as a more viable target than say Taylor Hall.</div></div>
Respectable. The idea intrigues me, but I, like many NJ fans seem pretty emotionally attached for lack of a better term to Palms

Severson for RNH and Puljijarvi traded
Nothing wrong on the EDM end here, a very fair trade, but NJ has the worst blue line in the NHL to my belief and Severson is our only top 2 potential guy.
