RD for 2023-24

I think whether or not we move Boqvist is independent of Jiricek. We have Severson, Peeke, Gudbranson, and Blankenburg all NHL-caliber on the right side, even without Boqvist. Factor in Jiricek being NHL-ready either this year or next, and Ceulemans on the way next year or 2024-25, and we suddenly have two teams worth of NHL-level RD. Someone has to go, and Boqvist definitely gets the best return (though I'd prefer it was Peeke).
That's not a bad return for Boqvist IMO, it's essentially 3 2nd-rounders. However, we've already got one of the deeper prospect pools in the league, so CBJ are probably looking for quality over quantity. Columbus probably asks for a 1st, and MTL probably has no interest in moving theirs (since it could land pretty much anywhere). It'll probably take more than just a value match to make a Boqvist trade.

what direction will a new habs management take?
Well just by looking at who they brought in, this would appear to be a full rebuild <em>a la</em> NY rangers did in 2016, I think it was. Gorton is much known for that as well as his drafting record from Boston. It would appear that's where the Habs are looking to improve especially when Molson specifically mentioned drafting top 10 3 times under MB and none are still with the team.
Also just to clarify something here, whoever the Habs get to be GM will essentially be the pawn for Gorton. They'll bring their expertise and have a role to play obviously but its abundantly clear in my mind, that ownership wants the best person for the job but because of the language requirement, it can only be in the form of an non french VP who won;'t speak to media often if at all and a french speaking GM who will speak to the media and fans regularly, working in unison. The GM doing all the day to day things still while communicating to the fanbase but the main direction the team takes will be from Gorton and that's the most important thing.
For all the Habs fans out there wanting a true rebuild and with the best person for the job being hired regardless of language cliche, this is quite literaally the closest we'll ever get to it. I couldn't be happier with the direction ownership took today.

Fixing MTL part deux
Damn you retained 50% of Price’s contract? Having almost 5 mill on the books for 4 more years with no player to actually show for it would kill Mtl within a couple years. I’d say add Kassian to the deal and only retain about 25-28% = 2.5 - 3 mill retained bringing his cap hit to around 7.5.

I won't say for certain but I'm 99.99% certain it is not possible.

So yes toronto would match and then you go after Kapanen who is a finn which we are now hoarding to play with kotkaniemi... toronto will not be able to afford Kapanen at 4-5 million and he makes us better..

i would not say any are "better". All comparable but Mitch has more points and is better defensively than all of them.
Winnipeg has plenty of cap to make it work.

In this situation. Marner accepts a 7 year deal at $11mil aav. total of $77mil. When calculating for compensation, the offer sheet AAV takes the total amount ($77mil) and divides it by 5 years (or less). $77mil divided by 5 is $15.4mil.

Also the Philly deal would never happen</div></div>
Offersheet AAV isn't a straight average, it is the total contract value devided by the lesser of; the length of the contract, or 5 years.

Habs Are Price-less
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dar_Krum</b></div><div>They are bit over the cap. That is why signings like Alzner and Shaw kill teams. A couple of moves would still need to be made, but I would think you could move one of or all of Shaw, Schlemko, or Benn. I love the team and would likely try to move Weber at the deadline. WHY??? Because it frees up some money to sign another impact player and you can still get a #1 pick from the Leafs for him.</div></div>
Hey, I like your thinking. Will Carey`s big contract come back to bite MTL? Not sure MTL gets 1st overall pick but they will get a very good pick in the top five anyways. Carlson is having an amazing year and many teams will be after him. Because of supply and demand for right handed elite D-men, Carlson will probably get that type of offer. I also like that you are one of the few to NOT trade Patch. He is one of our few that can score. Can Lindgren and Nimei hold the fort for an entire season? I think they can. Niemi`s numbers were terrible but since coming to MTL and being with his old goalie coach from his Stanley Cup year, he has played very well.
