He's absolutely a perimeter player.
GMs don't care about puck luck when they're trading for assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>I kind of get what ur saying but it entirely depends on who is inquiring about him</div></div>
There's a very short list of teams that would benefit from obtaining Barzal at the perceived price (high 1st, top prospect, young roster player, etc). And of that short list, none of them can afford this $7M+ AAV
Barzal is a good 2C; he's a perimeter player. Aside from his first full year in the league, he's been pretty mundane. The Isles NEED to keep him - they don't want another JT situation or they'll never fill the building again. Hence, the price to acquire will be far higher than he's actually worth.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Agreed. I don’t think Detroit is any position to be buyers on the trade market. Isles aren’t in a spot to be buyers either imo.
But the value is horrendous lmao.</div></div>
While this is not nearly enough for Barzal, the price to actually acquire him is not nearly worth the player you'd be getting. He is far more valuable to the Isles than the team who would be acquiring him.

Most of these guys can be scratched or waived with no issue (Walman/Sundqvist/Erne/Smith/Psysk/etc).
If the younger guys earn the spot I fully expect them to get it. This ain't Holland's Wings no more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KyBull</b></div><div>Interesting take. I'm confused; I've read articles and watched videos where MacK talks about taking less money on his next contract in order to be competitive. I still think he signs for less and that the rumors that he's looking to be the highest-paid player are not accurate. I see him signing for 8yrs, $86mil, or $10,750,000 per year.</div></div>
Absolutely...he is going to go the Crosby route and take way less than he would otherwise get. Mark it.

Might be true, but all they have to do is make the playoffs and turn it on. Teams like Tampa don't need to waste energy winning the President's Trophy.

Tampa bounced FLA in 4 without Point lol...come on. FLA is as much of a pretender as anyone in the league.
Toronto will be interesting this year, they look good.
Colorado is a great, but Tampa took them to 6 without Point, again. I take a healthy Tampa over anyone in the league in a 7 game series, still.
Vas, Hedman, Kuch, Point, Serg, Cernak, Cirelli etc, etc, etc. ...doesn't get better than that.

He was analytically great, and waas decent in the playoffs. Hronek comes off the books next year, along with Kubalik and Perron, so resigning those three wouldn't be too difficult</div></div>
You think they lose Hronek for nothing? Odds are at least two of those 3 you mentioned are re-signed. You're leaving out a renewal of Vrana as well, which will be at least $6M - there is not enough money, however without that Miller contract then there might be.
Plus, Kylington is not worth Berggren AND a 1st rounder, let alone the rest of what you offered. He doesn't make this team that much better.

You've left no money to sign Vrana/Seider/Raymond and didnt even trade Hronek to at least offset some cap strain.

Tampa is still arguably the best team in the NHL. They have plenty of talent to overcome those losses. I can def see Toronto finishing first though.

How many trades have to go down in the NHL for people to understand theres no such thing as precedents.
Every team has their own needs and wants and are in different phases of contention/rebuilding/retooling etc.
Bjorkstrand trade is completely and utterly irrelevant.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>He's basically saying you don't just not sign a free agent that fits your team well just because you drafted someone else in that position then laid out examples of how that idea is flawed. If you used that train of thought from years past drafts, Rasmussen would be your 1C and Zadina top line winger.</div></div>
And i explained very clearly why you don't do that right below. That is how you expedite cap issues.
That's also completely false bc Ras was never expected to be a top C or even a top 2C in the NHL and Zadina is a winger so there are several other winger spots on a roster than center spots. Kasper is projected to be and was picked to be a top 2C. You dont sign a guy for 5 years at 7M when his replacement may be ready well within that 5 year range. Look at the roster above - look at how much cap there is and who needs to be signed....dumb move

Getting Nervous
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Depending on a guy you drafted 8th over all to be your long term 2nd line C is suuuuper premature.
For some wings examples how are Zadina (6th over all) and Rasmussen (9th over all) doing as your top end right winger and centers? Are they so good that if a high end guy was available in UFA you wouldn't sign him because you have them?
The Number 8th over all from 2018-2012 are:
Boqvist (seems pretty good, but not a stud yet at this point)
Mittlestadt (not bad, but certainly not the top 6 C they were hoping for, or you are with your pick)
Alexander Nylander (essentially a bust, may be an NHL depth player)
Werenski (theres a stud for ya)
William Nylander (theres another top end player for ya)
Ristolainen (he is a top 4, but as everyone knows, flawed)
Derrick Pouliot (is an NHL defenseman, but depth)
So good chance he's good, but far, far from guaranteed</div></div>
What in the world are you blabbering about?
Horvat is a great player, but it makes very little sense to commit that much money and term a year after you drafted a center in the top 10. You wait to see how he develops and then commit elsewhere, if necessary.

What? There is close to 0% chance he's not re-signed....
Also, the Horvat signing makes no sense considering we just drafted Kasper.
