Holtz for Markstrom Retained 25-26
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>No, we don’t really *know* anything. But it was reported by several people that it was Holtz for Markstrom…then retention (and corresponding cost) was not determined…and possibly what to killing it.
Holtz + 1st would probably mean Hanifin was included.</div></div>
I'm hoping

We don't know that it was Holtz for Markstrom. I think the offer contained a pick also and Vanecek

Oh I agree. Unfortunately, Fitzy didn't make our move in the summer and now he's gonna overpay to stabilize our net for the next few years

Holtz for Markstrom Retained
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WranglerWranglin</b></div><div>No one is saying it's not a fair offer, it is, there's just not incentive for Calgary to do it. They have a blue chip prospect in net and a goalie to shelter the hell out of him if they so choose. Wolf has proven nothing at the NHL level yet and until he does the Flames should not throw him into the fire with Vladar. Unless the pros seriously outweigh the cons Calgary has no reason to make the deal.</div></div>
I think CGY is already past that point in terms of their thinking. James Nichols already reported that they approached Markstrom about waiving his NTC and he approved. If there wasn't a retention issue, this deal would be done already. CGY seems to be comfortable parting with Markstrom and running with Wolf/Vanecek/Vladar for the next few years. Where are you guys really going these next few years? Let's be honest

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SJSF</b></div><div>These two make a ton of sense as trade partners. But I have heard that Calgary has no interest in retaining, which is why that last reported deal fell through. Maybe it would take another mid pick like a 3rd to retain 2 mil for 2 years</div></div>
Ik. Gotta wonder if 2 teams really let something fall through over such little money. CGY is retooling. They can afford to take on the 2m

I am 100% against tanking., and I'd still accept that deal despite it making us worse now because it's a very good return.</div></div>
If that is the package, you have to admit that between 25%-33% is more than reasonable. I have a feeling Fitzy wanted 33% retained which is 2m

It's gonna take more than that to get Saros. Probably would have to add Holtz or Gritsyuk on top of this package

Weak return? One of the best defense prospects in the league and a 1st rounder for a goalie that hasn't posted below a 3.00 GAA in 3 years. Believe me, Gibson isn't my first choice, but he's better than what we have and we'd be betting that his numbers would improve with a better team in front of him. I think this is more than fair for Gibson

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>I don't see Toffoli as a fit for what EDM would want out of a top-6 W/F upgrade. I imagine they'd be looking for either a W with speed to play with Draisaitl (as that's who he thrives with) or a 3C that would allow McLeod to return to playing in the top-6. Even if Toffoli is a talented finisher and possession player, skating is his weakness and he's not an option at 3C.</div></div>
Fair points but are you going to find a better player for only taking on 1.125m in cap. Between the retention and taking on Janmark, NJ is essentially paying 3.125 of the 4.25 Toffoli has on the cap

I’d still be fine with that. I’m surprised you don’t have interest in Clarke. Guy has lit up the AHL and has really fallen victim to a crowded RW room in NJ. Think he could easily be a 3rd liner who gives you 15-20 goals a year

More like a 1st + Holtz + Vanecek FOR Markstrom

What about Casey, Vanecek, 2024 1st for Markstrom unretained? Maybe another throw in like Clarke is possible but what about Casey, Vanecek, 2024 1st

That's not enough. IMO though, Alexander Holtz should not be involved in any deal for Markstrom. If CGY & NJ make a massive splash for Markstrom & Hanifin, then I would understand Holtz going back to CGY. If it's only Markstrom going to NJ, I think the Devils should offer Casey, Vanecek, 2024 1st for Markstrom unretained. Casey has a roadblock at RD in NJ and the Devils could cash in on his high value
