Galaxy Brain Stuff
Marner is not worth the equivalent of four first round draft choices, and he'll vanish when we need him most.
Even if you don't see it that way, we have holes to fix elsewhere first. We should learn from the Leafs' cap mistakes, not repeat them.

It's Murphy for moving down six spots in the draft. I think it's worth it.
Then try to deal for DeMelo with 19OA.

On behalf of Buffalo, Petry wouldn't be my first choice. But if nothing else shakes loose, I'd consider this. Those seconds will come in handy at the TDL.

Defense fixed - no UFAs
Let's be clear:
1. Buffalo has <em>four</em> high quality forward prospects that will be pushing for roster spots over the next two seasons.
2. This draft is light on 1st round D-prospects.
3. Sabres need two defensive D to push hard for playoffs in 23-24. Quality depth is what will allow us to survive injury spells.
This adds up to us needing to move 13OA. It does us no good to keep it . . . for what? Another top-six forward prospect? We've already got more than we can use.
These moves (should) put the Sabres in the playoffs for the next two years and appear to be for the best options available. Are the comp values wrong? I don't think so.

It's a first and Jokiharju for Murphy <strong>AND</strong> DeMelo.

No doubt. Those guys don't play on our bottom six.
Timing is the issue for me. We're competing now. If JJP continues on his current trajectory, he's not yet one-for-one replaceable by any of those guys you listed. We don't want to open a top six hole while filling another. Next summer, his value should be even higher and one of Savoie/Kulich/Rosen should be ready.
I wouldn't move any of these assets until we can get peak value for them.
Patience is still required.

So what's your beef? Moving from 28OA to 13OA is equivalent to a 1st. You get a replacement RD at a reasonable cost and a young G with upside.
Sounds like it meets your requirements. I don't know that I do the trade. But why scoff at it?

Crouse is probably not the bargain we're looking for. I also don't want to rock the boat for a goalie at TDL.
I think a top-4 D might be available for two 2nds. I also think AZ overplayed Chychrun, and he has to move in the next few days. If I was him, I'd hold out if they didn't trade me.

In reality, we’re still a year away
Maybe two</div></div>
All that said, I still think he'd be better on the third pair, and would be open to moving him with a draft choice for a tested improvement on RHD.

No way Greenway. Sabres took years to purge that bull**** from the room. Wouldn't take him on waivers.
BTW, Jost is working out nicely. Thanks.

Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yote827</b></div><div>ASAP? He has two more year's after this at the same 4.6 number? Coyotes have no rush to move him at all. The price is the price because he's a true top pair defenseman. The proposed trade probably gets close because of Savoie and the 2024 1st but the rest is a bunch of junk. Jokiharju is a useful player but he's not a needle mover in the trade and certainly doesn't meat "1st round value." Coyotes have been there a done that with Hinostroza (who just waived and unclaimed btw), the VGK 2nd rounder might as well be a 3rd considering how good they are. I understand Buffalo not wanting to give up their 23' 1st because they aren't a playoff lock, so I'm fine with that but you've gotta make up the value elsewhere.
I think a realistic Chychrun trade between these two teams is something like Buffalo gets Chychrun - Yotes get 2023 1st (top 5 protected that becomes 2025 unprotected 1st if the pick doesn't transfer), 2024 1st, Savoie OR the same picks with two of Ostlund/Rosen/Kulich as the prospects</div></div>
No. 23 1st (top six protected) plus Rosen. Full stop.

If the reports are correct, Greenway left his teammates high and dry. Not welcome in the Buffalo room as a waiver pickup.

Yeah, that would be at full salary (no retention).
Johnson is a smooth-skating LD that should quickly develop into a top-4. Former 1st round pick. The problem is he's UFA-eligible this summer. He wouldn't be available if Sabres were confident he'd sign with them. At minimum, he's a 2024 late 2nd, with the possibility to be significantly more.

Sabres can add Lawrence Pilut. He's a competent 3rd LD -- probably an improvement over Hutton.
It's still no-deal if you're willing to wait for Hague. But if you want to close the case file, then . . . .
