Lindholm would be at worst a good #2 C, so a better fit than Drouin, at worst he falls to 2C if one of the kid develops into 1C, solves your Ld problem as well.
If I'm montreal, I do this in a hearthbeat

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>If it's one thing Carolina has...it's cap space...and the need to use it on impact forwards. Paying Lindholm $6m might not be what they had in mind but I could see them matching.
Would be scarier if they offerered an $8m + offer sheet to a nylander....they either get the player or screw toronto cap wise (especially if, say, they are both in the running for Tavares)
although the habs need more legit Centres and not more of these winger/centre combos</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Truebeliever</b></div><div>The compensation on this would be two firsts, a second and a third rounder. Far too much.</div></div>
Point is, if noone comes via free agency. and we can't get one thru trades, then why not get one via an offer sheet. Karlson and Lindholm are the top 2 and altought Karlssoon has the better season, it'S just that, 1 season while Lindholm is the safer bet albeit maybe with less upside.

I'd do Villardi for Patch straight up. If we fill the void at Center, we can move Drouin to the left. We also have Hudon, Lekhonenn, Galcheniuk that can all play left.
I can't believe I'm saying this but LW are a stenght in Mtl, so getting a top C prospect for a guy bound to leave.... Sign me up

I'd retain salary and change the 3rd to a 2nd to make it work. Getting out of a guy that seems like he'll be injury prone for the rest of his career, while getting a goo dplayer in return, would be a gold star for Bergy
I also don'T believe LAK send Villardi and a bunch of picks for 1 year of Patch, could be a straight up swap at best

no need to look at rebuilding team, I can see team trying to keeo the dream alive chase you down, the likes of Mtl, SJ, Ana, Cal, would all be there to try and take him off your hands.¸
@ 7,5M/Season, LAK likely get a 1st, established young NHLer, secondary pieces. I could see Mtl do a Galcheniuk, 1st, 2nd, Hudon and some sweetner to close the deal.

That's a big no from mtl. If you're really a MTL fan, you must be the kind of guy who thinks Galchenyuk worth a late first round pick...</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs4ever</b></div><div>You have almost $6 Million on your 7th and 8th D-man. Might as well move them, buy them out or retain salary.</div></div>
Soooooooooooooooooo, let's address some concerns
#1 Noone is giving away top #1C prospects, so yeah overpaying to Fla, meaning givving up more than required, taking on bad contracts, etc but Mtl will have to do it at somepoint if they want to fix their C issues.
#2 I get Anaheim may not want to trade Steele, but we're taking on $$ back and retaining $$ on Pacc. Their window with the current core is now, they might go for it.
#3 Bad contracts will be on our payroll for a while, like it or not, I don't think we're moving them unless we give assests to go with them, which I would try to avoid. Therefore, if I'm having an AHLer as my 7th D and need to pay to dump Alzner, might as well keep the poor guy.
If you all prefer, Add Pacc to the rest of the Fla package and swap Borgstrom for Trotchek or Barkov. Either way, I tihnk we can ride Drouin as a C if we're grooming someone else. But the future at C is not in our backyard so any ideas on how the get that guys (which is not in this years draft), I'm all ears
Thx for the feedback, keep the debate alive

Outside the box thinking
IMO, LAK don'T give up Vilardi for anything but agreed with the approach that we get a grade A Center prospect and groom him. I just hope they bring in a coach to develop that #1C, don'T leave it up to f/$%?ckin Sylvain Lefebvre (an old D) to screw him up in the minor.
I just look at what LAK are doing with skills coach Pierre Turgeon... Seriously.« Several older SKILLED players have offered their services to Mtl to help guide the youth but we keep sticking with fourth liners and 3rd pairing D as our development leadership team.

Cup 18-19
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larkinisking</b></div><div>FYI You can only sign Tavares for 7 years and once again John Tavares will get closer to $12 million then $10 million with the reported salary cap close to $80 million no way JT only signs for $10 million per.</div></div>
IF he wants to win, I think he needs to take a Toew type of contract, if he's in for the $$$, then I think net $$ will come from a state with no income tax, the Florida, texas of this world.
So I could see him @ 10.5 in Fla/Dal/TB, 12.5 in another US market. 13+ in Canada. Up to him whether he wants to be able to go out and eat like a normal human being or be a superstar that can'T do $h!t because his every move are under scrutiny

1) Try to sign Carlson instead

3) Come and get Alzner from Mtl, we'll give him to you for FREE. We'll throw in MB, CJ and a couple of wireless charger that Amazon keeps showing me on Capfriendly :)

if he goes to the minors, there's still something that hits the cap, while full on trade gets rid of him.
That being said, if you can dump Schlemko to a 7th, then use Lek as a trade chip elsewhere to upd LD or center position

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ekpaul87</b></div><div>Calgary would like you to take your pile of junk elsewhere instead of trying to trade it for a top 4 D. You aren't giving nearly enough to dump Shaw and Alzner's contracts on someone, far less get back a good player in return.</div></div>
We could take Brouwer off ur hands.
That being said, Mtl could hold on to 950k of Shaw to make him a 2.9M player and trade him for 2 2nd. Use those the 3 2nd (2 from Shaw, 1 from Lek) + Scherbak to get a top 4 LD and get out of Alzner
I would think a 2nd + Alzner for a 7th could work
Then 2 second + Sherbak for a top 4 LD could work. Or just pay someone like De Haan keep the picks and sign Danault to a shorter deal.
Point was that with a true #1C, everybody else falls in a more appropriate spot and odly enough, I think our offense (given a system prone to it) could deliver top tier Offense

Not sure why you'd keep Carr over Lehkonen, of why you'd dump Shaw and trust a rookie (Evans) in that slot. Whatever team signs Evans (he's a UFA), he'll be in the AHL for his first year.</div></div>
Cap dump for Schlemko would need something sweet attached to it. Gives Van a young player, we get a pick to unclog the wings.

Mtl will need to overpay for a 1C until they groom one, Stastny isn't a terrible option and give him more $ for less term.
As for Jenner, Worst case, him and Danult can swap 2/3 until a young Poehling, Evans, or someone else comes in to take the #1/2C and then they all move down.
