<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Ah the Koskinen debate…. Well you all know where I stand. Koskinen is meh, but overpaid. He needs to go. He makes a total of 4.5M for 1 year, and is a backup. Down below is his stats as an NHL goalie….. as you can see, he has never been the best NHL goalie, but he has been okay. Yes, our fan base is one of the worst, but there is a time that we need to win, and our time is now. We need a good starter. If we can get that, then I would have to say that we will be a good team this year. Comparing him to starters like Markstrom, Ullmark, etc is not fair, because he is simply not as good as they are, also, they played on way worse teams then Koskinen has. That will play with your stats a lot in my opinion, which is another reason why it’s not fair to compare. For example John Gibson, he has bad stats, because he plays on Anaheim, even though he is a top 5 goalie in the league in my opinion. Given Koskinen’s last 4 years, I think his 2019-2020 SV% was a fluke, because he has never been that good since. Anyway, goalies are voodoo, most will play good one game, and not so good the next. But is that the case for old Mikko…. I don’t know. He is okay, but you can’t say he is underrated, and you definitely can’t say he is anything other than an okay overpaid backup goalie.

2010-2011: NYI: 4GP, 2W, 1L, 4.33GAA, .873SV%
2018-2019: EDM: 55GP, 25W, 21L, 6OTL, 2.93GAA, .906SV%
2019-2020: EDM: 38GP, 18W, 13L, 3OTL, 2.75GAA, .917SV%
2020-2021: EDM: 26GP, 13W, 13L, 3.17GAA, .899SV%</div></div>

Why you posted the 4 game cameo as a rookie is beyond me. Then his 1st year on north American ice in a decade should be taken with a grain of salt. If you exclude his overworked 13 game stretch to start last season, his numbers would look much similar to 2019-20. So what seasons were actually a fluke now? See what i did there. Easily reversed your entire debate. I think my version may be the one closer to the truth then yours. The 2018-19 Oilers were not very good. In fact our defense the past few seasons has been highly suspect defensively. I believe the better version of Koskinen is closer to what he actually is. What do you think he would of looked like behind Tampas Defence?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>I get what you were doing, but Kassian at $3.2MM for three years is a deal breaker, as well as Ottawa not needing Kemp or Rodrigue. Taking Kassian at his full cap hit stalls Ottawa's rebuild, it's dead cap for three seasons. Ay 50% retained, Ottawa can retain 50%, keeping the dead cap at 800K, and Kassian might appear to be worth $800K to some team.

$3.2MM too much
$1.6MM palitable
$800K standard depth

If you want Brown, pay the Brown price and keep Koskinen and Kassian. If you need the cap space, pay the Koskinen price. If you need to unload Kassian, retain or go elsewhere.</div></div>

This was my answer to another responder.

Theyre closer to rebuild stage then cup contender. By the time theyre a cup contender Browns likely gone anyway. 2 years to UFA. Why not gain assets now while still not there. They could probably take the entire package from Edmonton and add a piece or 2 and flip it to Buffalo for Eichel. Someone Edmonton cant fit in their budget but Ottawa could.

I'll add, Buffalo is in full rebuild and getting rid of a 50mill contract for 14 mil total would not likely be a deal breaker. The entire Edmonton package(dump) would be gone. This would no longer be stalling Ottawa

Hypothetically lets say Pinto and a 2024 1st.
If Buffalo called Ottawa and said will give you Eichel for Brown, Pinto, a 2024 1st and Backup A.Forsberg. Would they do it, should they do it. My answer would be yes all day. Buffalo is also short on Goalies and Goalie prospects (Rodrigue) as well as right shot D prospects (Kemp). Now just add Pinto and the 1st to the Edmonton package and Buffalo may think they struck Gold

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>EDM
Brown, Connor
Forsberg, Anton
Additional Details:
With a couple of potential GENERATIONAL talents at the top of the 2023 draft acquiring picks for that season is good business for Ottawa. They get Edmontons 2nd best forward prospect in Lavoie who could see NHL time as soon as this season. A right shot defensive prospect in Kemp. And a decent goalie prospect who had a tough 1st pro season in limited action this past season. The sens also get themselves a protector for all their youth in Kassian for the foreseeable future. He may be a bit expensive but the sens have over 20mil in cap space. This deal only adds 3.2 mil to their cap, and Koskinen is only 1 year long.
OTT
Kassian, Zack
Koskinen, Mikko
Lavoie, Raphael
Kemp, Philip
Rodrigue, Olivier
2023 1st round pick (EDM)
2023 4th round pick (EDM)
2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
2024 3rd round pick (EDM)

=====

Keep Kemp, Rodrigue, and the 2024 3rd, and retain 50% on Kassian. Kassian at $3.2MM for three years is too much, I'd rather have Byron, and I don't want Byron, lol.

1st and Lavoie<strong> for</strong> Brown
4th and Koskinen <strong>for</strong> taking Koskinen's cap and Forsberg
2nd and Kassian at 50% retained <strong>for</strong> taking his cap</div></div>

I overpaid to entirely rid the team of the cap space and would prefer that route with Nurse looking at a big raise and the need to have that space available. Ottawa has almost 30 mil in cap space. Id think theyd be silly not to do. Honestly it pains me to do it. Add another piece or 2 and it may be good enough to land Eichel, but that cap hit wouldn't fit i dont think. So i like reuniting Brown with McDavid. Plus the guys insane short handed
