Crazy Idea, BUT... MAYBE? (Toronto)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>are you saying the cap went up after expense revenue went up 6 per team....186m total which would mean 3m rise in cap per team yes there are 82 more games, but there is also one more team, so total revenue still has to shared over 32 teams. Yea the NHL revenue went partly due a 3% raise organically and some more do the Canadian dollar being stronger but the rise can't all be the result of Vegas.</div></div>
Multiple reasons lead to the rise of the cap, but a new team coming in brings in a ton of revenue as well, but growth is the main factor you are right, vegas has a big hand in that tho, as well as the stronger canadian dollar, seattle itself joining doesn't automatically increase the cap but the new fans that will be watching will help to do that. Now that being said Vegas was a surprise this season and probably had more fans watching throughout the season then Seattle will, but still growth is growth.

Not sure why in hell he'd want to sign with the leafs and lose all of that leverage, as well as making his future team lose assets before he gets there when they could get him for free. It's a no brainer</div></div>
Because if you know that the team you're signing with is also getting EK, it would probably sway your decision.

No, the cap is expected to rise to at least 80m by 2019-2020. Tavares just shouldn't be signed in the first place.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dealtareon</b></div><div>Fine, let's suppose that your assumptions are correct (Perron and Neal go back, Vanek slows down, Kane is a toxic player (though some players have proven the media wrong), and Grabner is the only decent player. That right there is enough for me to avoid this whole dump of a trade and go after someone who won't cost me my roster of now and the future.
Also, Stars fans know that Spezza's deal needs to go, there are other ways of losing that contract (Buyout, minor trade with a team that needs a C for a 4th or 5th rd pick)
Lastly, there are other players in the Stars lineup that you did not include that can score goals.</div></div>
So improving your defense and getting one of the best goal scorers in the league who does it all in front of the net, one of the hardest places to score consistently in the NHL, for a salary dump, the player you are literally upgrading (sure he's on a great contract), a 1rst and a solid prospect. Sounds fair to me.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>why does have seattle in the league raise the cap? the entry money to join the league isn't included in revenue sharing or the cap. I'm just guessing that jvr has no interest in joining the western conference with his connections to the new york area, and where he likes will sign.</div></div>
There's a reason why the current cap when Vegas joined is expected to rise by a minimum of 3 million next year, and it's because that means there are 82 more games to make money off of, a new team to sell jerseys, and new fans watching games, which increases revenue for the league meaning the cap goes up.

No the whole point of a sign and trade is that he knows where he is going... and is willing to sign there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dealtareon</b></div><div>I also say no.
Klingberg is two years younger, on a super amazing contract (4 more years at $4.25M vs 1 more year at $6.5M), and has always improved with each passing year. If u really want to get technical Klingberg had more points this year than Karlsson (67 to 62).
JVR is a FA and while yes you would have to "get in line" he isn't the only good winger available. He may be the most desired and all but let's not forget that guys like Perron (66 pts), Vanek (24 goals and 56 pts), Evander Kane (should he not sign with SJ he's a 30 goal scorer easily in Dallas), Neal (consistent 20+ goal scorer who has hit 30 before), Grabner (27 goals this season). All in all, I'm not trading Klingberg and Spezza to get an FA that still might not even sign with Dallas and there is no reason to.
In the end, a three-way trade that sees us getting JVR and Karlsson but losing Klingberg, Spezza Gurianov (a prospect that I think will turn out great once he gets comfortable with North American hockey; He showed huge leaps of improvement throughout the season in the AHL), and a 2019 1st is way too much.</div></div>
Perron and Neal will re-sign with Vegas, Vanek is 34 and will start to get slower and score less, Evander Kane is a toxic teammate, grabner might be the only player here who i would suggest they sign, but as a compliment to JVR on the second line, he could probably be signed around 4 mill. Also Spezza had 26 points last year in 78 games, Dallas needs to dump his salary so they can make some impactful moves this offseason which they desperately need.
<a href="http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?report=skaterscoring&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20172018&seasonTo=20172018&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=goalsPer60Minutes" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?report=skaterscoring&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20172018&seasonTo=20172018&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=goalsPer60Minutes</a>
Only 2 full time players last season beat JVR in Goals per 60. Laine and Matthews.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>We_Want_The_Cup</b></div><div>I honestly don't think any amount of "tweaking" will fix the fact that the core concept is flawed, and Toronto wins this *hands down* with no doubt at all.
JVR sign and trade is ridiculous. JVR is a UFA, so the only way he agrees on a new contract with trading rights to Dallas is if JVR is willing to go to Dallas to begin with (in which case, why would Dallas bother to lose Klingberg?)
I mean sure, Dallas gets a Karlsson one year rental, but that hardly makes any sense.
And OTT is just being dumped a bunch of decent-but-not-gamechanging players with nothing to help their reboot except a 1st which is TOP 10 PROTECTED (to boot!)
The trade at its core is flawed five ways to Sunday.</div></div>
He (JVR) would agree to it if Dallas gets karlsson at the same time, he would be joining a team with a new identity that he would help build. That team would be scary as hell, and Karlsson for 1 year could be the difference between him choosing Dallas over other teams in free agency. Especially if they have a good year, he wants to get paid don't get me wrong but the cap is slated to go up to 78 minimum next year, and is projected to be at roughly 80 the year after. Once Seattle joins aswell that number will jump again, and soon his 12 mill deal wont seem as hard to swallow.

Just because you have a have a NTC/NMC doesn't mean you can't do a sign and trade, contracts are much more complicated than that, along with if he is traded before the new deal kicks in which is what im suggesting which would be before july 1, then there wouldn't be an NTC/NMC and he would then go to Dallas and the NTC/NMC would come into effect on JULY 1.

Sometimes it's not about a need, sometimes it's about changing things up enough and bringing in new talent to change the atmosphere, JVR brings a dedication to his body that not many in the NHL can rival. Karlsson is a game changer, Klingberg is great don't get me wrong but if you can get a game changer for a fair deal plus a 30 goalscorer who is a big net front presence and a powerplay specialist i think you do it. All you have to pay for an upgrade on d and a 30 goal scorer is a 1rst, a solid prospect, and get to dump salary, I have no doubt in my mind that any gm in the league would do that.

You're already getting 2 firsts, and 2 solid prospects in Gurianov and Johnsson. Plus 1 piece who could really rebound and be the most valuable part of this trade. Again might need some tweaking but again more about the core concept of the trade of Ottawa selling for a rebuild, Toronto finding their top 2 rhd, and Dallas tweaking a roster that is in it's prime and not working.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burgerboss92</b></div><div>Dumb idea for Dallas. Klingberg produces close to the amount that Karlsson does, has one of the greatest contracts in the NHL, and Dallas could get JVR as an UFA in the offseason. There's no point for them to do that, since they are also losing a number of valuable assets here for little or no improvement whatsoever. Besides, acquiring Karlsson would make it extremely hard to keep both him and Seguin in the team in the 2019-2020 season.</div></div>
Well, they could get JVR in free agency but they would have to get in line like everyone else, with this it's a guarantee, and karlsson is just slightly better than klingberg but karlsson is the best offensive d in the world and i think it sends a message to the team. Not to mention they would have 40 million to work with to sign Karlsson and Seguin and 9 other players so roughly 20 million to sign 9 players, if you remove hanzal that's roughly 25 million to sign 10 players, except u have young players that could step in on the cheap and probably fill your entire 4th line and 3rd pairing. Not saying it's perfect btw just think it could work.

Gardiner to MIN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leaflet</b></div><div>It's not a good trade at all for the Leafs. Brodin has up and down seasons, like Gardiner. Even this season, when some people complain about Gardiner, he has a better Corsi% (48 versus 44.4 for Brodin), and more offensive upside. Brodin starts more often in the defensive zone but that's a small adjustment (2 CF% points at best). Overall, they are close to equivalent, but Gardiner has more value in my opinion.
Borgman showed he can start in the NHL and is doing very well. He has much more market value than Murphy, who likely wouldn't play at all with the Leafs.
In addition, the Leafs would trade a 3rd to receive a 4th...
If you were to swap Brodin with Spurgeon, that would be more interesting. Two good NHL defensemen (Gardiner Borgman) for one good RHD, though this trade would still be in Min's favour.</div></div>
I actually disagree here, I like Gardiner and I think the poise he has shown this season is great but, he is 27 and is gonna need a pay raise at the end of his deal next season in the 5M+ range while Brodin has 3 years left after this season at 4.167M which could be a very cheap cap hit considering he still has room to grow. I could really see him being a good line partner for Liljegren in 19/20 hopefully.
Overall I think it depends on if the leafs are trying to win now, or want to develop young players first, I think this would be a deadline deal if Minnesota is going strong into the deadline while the leafs start to falter a little, i could see this trade happening if not just a straight swap Brodin for Gardiner.
