I think the value for marner is pretty fair for the devils but I don't think it makes any sense for them. They wouldn't be able to afford marner's next contract so to give up their very valuable first and 4 years of marino for a year of marner doesn't really help us. We would still need to address other needs and have bigger holes to fill in the future.

My ask
I think you'll end up being disappointed in the return you get for helle if he does end up getting moved. NJ isn't remotely interested in paying that high of price for a goalie (for the trade and the extension). There are more affordable options in the goaltending market. They might even choose to run it back with Vitek and Schmid/cheap backup and upgrade elsewhere. Time is not on the jets' side. They probably need to get a helle deal done before the season starts because vezina-calibre goalies rarely get traded during the season. Winnipeg is definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place with this one. I hope you guys manage to trade helle and get a good return for him because it sucks losing the face of the franchise for a bad return but the devils won't be interested in paying anywhere near that. I would love helle on the devils though.

EK to the canes hypothetical

Tareshenko or Karlsson??
Either way this is such a strong team.</div></div>
Canes are really scary. IMO this year is a must win for them before they start losing a bunch of players because almost everyone expires next year or the year after. They're best shot to win the cup is now so anything and everything should be on the table to make this team better.
I don't think Tarasenko is a good fit for their forechecking system so I think canes fans would prefer Karlsson over Tarasenko + TDA contingent on the price not being too high.

Go to Helle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Everybody with the silliness of leverage. What is this leverage that NJ has to force unneeded players on the Jets? Winnipeg has a whole season to wait for a deal they want.
I can't see them having a problem finding players they want in a deal.
I know fans want to believe they can get something for nothing, it just doesn't happen in reality.
NJ has pieces they can use to get Helly, these just aren't them imo.</div></div>
It definitely not getting Helle for nothing. It's a bigger package than what the devils received for Hall and that trade turned out to be a huge win for the devils despite a lot of fans thinking the return was mediocre at the time.
In that trade the devils received
Nick Merkley
Nate Schnarr
Kevin Bahl
2020 1st (which they used to draft Mercer)
2021 3rd (which they traded for Siegenthaler)
Even if the assets they receive don't perfectly fit their needs they can always use those assets to acquire others that do. A lot of the time it's about getting the best package in return and not necessarily the one that fits their needs the most (especially since needs can change very quickly) and if this is the best package they get offered it's a good return to jump start the rebuild.

Go to Helle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Vanecek and the 1st are a good start, but if the Jets are trading Hellebuyck they have to start some sort of rebuild so an unimpressive 24 YO winger looking for a raise isn't anything they need. Casey is okay, but is a small, offense only defenseman that the Jets don't need. They need to be swapped for Holtz.</div></div>
The jets would be crazy NOT to trade Hellebuyck. He's already stated he doesn't want to extend so the package seems reasonably fair given that the Jets are losing leverage by the second.

Ignoring the fact that the devils could end up trading their 2024 first to san jose if they make it to the ECF so the first would be a 2025 1st this is an easy yes for the devils

Trying to figure out what Kevin Weekes would pay for Jesper Bratt as Sharks GM

That's a bit outrageous and we be the exact same thing as me saying Holtz is a far superior talent and worth way more than Meier even though he's only played under 10 NHL games so it would be Meier and a possible top 5 pick for Holtz.
Eklund is a great prospect but to a team would have to give up a 23 year old ppg winger and a top 5 pick for him before he's even played a full season in the NHL is a classic case of the endowment effect

Finding Center and Other Pieces to take next step
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HeadHighSauce</b></div><div>He's 22, the captain, and clicked along at a 71 point pace despite an incredibly slow start where he was shooting less than half his career low for like 20 games. so you're looking at something you absolutely aren't willing to give up. Multiple premium assets like Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson, Cossa, your first, etc.
The Devils would need to clearly win in order to move him.</div></div>
Not to mention Devils are probably going to move Blackwood because of the friction that his whole vaccination fiasco caused between Fitz and Blackwood so there's no way Fitz would go out of his way in trading his leader for the only unvaccinated player remaining in the NHL.

Meier is having career year, but ppg up 75%, WAR up 150%.
Not sure that is sustainable.
Maybe, but not gambling on it.
And sweet Jeebus...Sharks fans are saying no to this.</div></div>
Trading for Meier is a huge gamble for sure going off his long track record in the NHL it's hard to justify that he'll keep up the pace he's on this year in the future. You have to hope at the minimum he keeps up a level of play in between this year and his career and that he's willing to take significantly less than his QO. If the sharks are serious about rebuilding you can't pass up this haul for a player likely having a career year and that you probably won't be able to afford a year from now or that you probably shouldn't keep if you are trying to tank for high draft picks.

Reimer has been good this year for the sharks I agree. From the devils' perspective though Käkkönen has more value because of age and his underlyings are decent. I don't think they can afford to risk acquiring an older goaltender for the 3rd year in a row which makes more sense to trade for Käkkönen or Hill over Reimer. Sharks may not be willing to move käkkönen because they just acquired him but the same can be said for basically all 3 goalies in Reimer Käkkönen and Hill but with Strauss Mann also signing with San Jose. I assume at least one of those 3 gets moved. From a devils' perspective Reimer is the goalie I'd be the least interested in acquiring and I definitely wouldn't do it at a significant cost if I did.

I think Reimer is worth less and not more than Käkkönen. So personally, I think that's way too much for Meier + Reimer over Meier + Käkkönen
