Vanecek and the 1st are a good start, but if the Jets are trading Hellebuyck they have to start some sort of rebuild so an unimpressive 24 YO winger looking for a raise isn't anything they need. Casey is okay, but is a small, offense only defenseman that the Jets don't need. They need to be swapped for Holtz.

The jets would be crazy NOT to trade Hellebuyck. He's already stated he doesn't want to extend so the package seems reasonably fair given that the Jets are losing leverage by the second.

I think you’re overestimating the amount of leverage the Jets have with this trade.

They don't need leverage, just players that fill needs. But what's the leverage NJ has to force unneeded players on the Jets?

Trades aren't just one team packaging up players they no longer want and have little value or potential left for good players. The reason you want to get rid of these players is the same reason other teams don't want them.

So, in don't think the Jets will have a problem finding a deal with players that want.

Everybody with the silliness of leverage. What is this leverage that NJ has to force unneeded players on the Jets? Winnipeg has a whole season to wait for a deal they want.

I can't see them having a problem finding players they want in a deal.

I know fans want to believe they can get something for nothing, it just doesn't happen in reality.

NJ has pieces they can use to get Helly, these just aren't them imo.

It definitely not getting Helle for nothing. It's a bigger package than what the devils received for Hall and that trade turned out to be a huge win for the devils despite a lot of fans thinking the return was mediocre at the time.

In that trade the devils received
Nick Merkley
Nate Schnarr
Kevin Bahl
2020 1st (which they used to draft Mercer)
2021 3rd (which they traded for Siegenthaler)

Even if the assets they receive don't perfectly fit their needs they can always use those assets to acquire others that do. A lot of the time it's about getting the best package in return and not necessarily the one that fits their needs the most (especially since needs can change very quickly) and if this is the best package they get offered it's a good return to jump start the rebuild.

It's not about value it's about fit. Rarely do teams just make trades based on value its almost always based on fit and needs. "Use these assets to acquire assets they need" is the lazy way out to justify not giving up pieces you don't want to.

By the very few trades we see each year, you can tell that it isn't easy to make trades, so the "just trade those pieces for what you want" line is unrealistic. If it's that easy to do, you trade the pieces for what the Jets want and then offer that.

I think the Jets would put this offer on the "maybe, if
nothing better comes along' pile and see if they can find a deal that better suits they're needs 1st.

All in all, not a bad offer, just not addressing any needs for Winnipeg.
