Something Different - 2024 Playoff Line Up
I agree with your forward lines and defense pairs. Matthews, Marner and Nylander should each drive a line and I like the line up balance. Liljegren has not been playing well and Benoit should be playing.
The only part I disagree with is your Power Play. I get the idea of having a big guy like Reaves in front of the net but he does not have the hands or skill for tip plays. Bertuzzi should be the net front guy IMO.

Great win in Vancouver last night. This is an Interesting proposal. I can see the appeal for the shut down defender (Larsson). Do the Jets really need Wennberg? The price for a Center is going to be very high noting the market set by Lindholm and Monahan and this pushes Barron out of the line up.
If I was Seattle I and you wanted both players, I would want Lambert over Chaz.

RE: Robertson vs. Eberle. Thinking long term you are absolutely right. But sometimes you take a gamble. Eberle played well in the playoffs last year and would be highly motivated again.
IMO the Leafs need a defensive minded forward over Eberle or Robertson. A player like Jordan Greenway (Buf), Cole Smith or Trenin from Nashville, Duhaime (Min), Dellandrea (Dal) or maybe even Joel Armia in Montreal if they would retain 50% salary could be helpful additions.

I like the moves for the Leafs overall. I think Edmundson (retained) costs more than a 4th. Likely a 3rd and 5th OR maybe 4th and 5th.
I like the addition of Eberle offensively, but still think the Leafs need a forward to help with PK which is a weakness they need to address.

Agree that Kylington should stay. Personally I like all the trades and think the Flames should do it. The problem is that the Flames owner (Murray Edwards) is old school and refuses to retain money to pay for players not playing for him. The Markstrom one is particularly painful for 2 more years. Devils likely need to add a 1st (in place of 2nd) in this scenario.

Grit Defense and Penalty Kill for playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Josh anderson is absolutly nothing like Bunting or Hyman. He's a rush scorer, not a net front guy. He doesnt grind pucks out of corners half as well as either of them and he doesnt work a cycle well, he's also abysmal defensively.
Not to mention Savard's contract is awful and kills any value Anderson's retention gets you, because he's a 7th defender who cant defend.
Dumba also sucks pretty bad defensively.
this is not a better defensive team or PK team, but sure, the leafs will get a lot more penalties from all that toughness</div></div>
Anderson is a Power Forward (or a poor man's power forward). I agree that his speed helps him on the rush, but he is 2nd on the Habs in hits and his physical play will create space for Mathews/Marner. He is bad defensively and he is prone to to taking penalties... But the Leafs need a player with some toughness who can actually play (ex. Reeves will be in the press box). I would normally target Tavev and Laughton but I think the price will be too high on both players - hence I was trying to be creative.
What would you do then?

The fact that the Flames paid Hugedough $10.5mm and Kadri $7.0mm makes the probability that Lindholm signs at a discount very low. The Flames will have to overpay to keep Lindholm too. If the Flames give Lindholm a big 8 year contact then they will have become the Sharks....

Would love this trade for the Leafs. But I can't see the Islanders trading a 23 year old RD who is still improving (Young RD are coveted assets). Nylander is a very talented player and he would be great with Horvat or Barzal. But his salary demands are too high and he has shown a strong stubborn streak in the past. I think this is scaring teams away..

Is this an even trade
<strong>Josh Anderson is a big player that skates well. But he has not really lived up to his potential. He is frequently injured and he turns 30 next year so this is not going to improve. As such the contract is only going to get worse</strong>. Anderson's career average is ~21 goals and ~36 points per season (per 82 games). He does not have as much value as many believe. A fair trade for Anderson would be a player like Connor Garland who has a similar contract but Garland is more productive noting he averages ~49 points per season (per 82 games).

I keep seeing this trade or a similar version (Brodie back to Calgary for Big Z). As others have responded, Zadorov is more valuable to Calgary. He is younger, bigger and plays a physical game. This is why the Leafs want him. Calgary are also over the cap, so taking on Brodie's salary makes it worse. Toronto would need to add draft capital or a valuable prospect for the Flames to even consider this (and I still think they decline). Big and nasty is worth a premium at present.

Would love to see Fox moved to a team where he doesn't want to go. He is just a touch "entitled" (LOL).
I also agree with the other posts that the Rangers would have to add more for #29. He is a top 5 player in the league (maybe top 3).

Hanifin would be a significant LD upgrade for the Devils. Do you really think Kevin Bahl or Brendan Smith is a better option? I do think the Flames would need to retain some salary on Hanifin in this proposal. I can understand the hesitancy to move a young 21 year forward with upside. But Top 4 D with retained salary don't come cheap. If Hanifin extends as noted in the proposal it could be a win for both teams.

The Miller trade is exactly what the Leafs need. But it would put the Rangers over the cap and they still need to resign Lafrenière. The Leafs would have to take Goodrow back to make the cap work. I just don't see the Rangers parting with 23 year old D with lots of upside, especially with Nylander's salary expectations. Young players with upside on good contracts are worth a premium.

Sharks rising
There was a rumor about this online. If Nashville had to retain 50% to move 30 year old Ryan Johansen (with 2 years remaining), the sharks would definitely need to retain 50% on Couture who is 34. If they were willing to do this, the the Flames should consider the trade if a sweetner / top prospect like Eklund was provided (and assuming that Lindholm refuses to resign). But it would need to be 50%.
What I don't understand is why San Jose would want Vladar (they already have 2 goaltenders). Probably not a very realistic rumor....

Flames may move Backlund to send him to a contender. He is a strong two way player who would fit it very well in Carolina. A prospect and 2nd round pick is a reasonably fair price assuming Carolina would provide a choice of Suzuki, Drury, Gunler etc. or maybe just two 2nds (Carolina and Philly) noting the salary retention.

While I like the idea of cost effective additions of Peeke and Seeler on defense for the Leafs... there is no way Minnesota takes on Brodie @ $5.0mm. They have ~$7.18mm in cap space and still need to sign Gustavvson and Addison so this would not work for the Wild.

Sorry - I can't see any of the trades working. You addressed the Cap issues, but the team got worse and the defense is really small and weak (won't work in playoffs). Krug makes things worse (IMO).
Trade 1: No way Columbus pays for Murray. Teams will want assets to take him on. Leafs will buy him out.
Trade 2: Abysmal return for Toronto.
Trade 3: Leafs don't need another small offensive defenseman. They need someone who can defend and Brodie is a much better defender than Krug. Its going to be hard for St. Louis to move 4 more years at $6.5mm for Krug.

I really like the trade for the Leafs, Dobson still has a lot of upside and his bridge contract is good value.
But this would also put the Islanders about $3.0mm over the cap. I just don't see the Islanders doing it. +Nylander would need to agree to a reasonable extension ~$9.0 (max $9.5). I am not convinced he is going to be reasonable. As such, I think there is a low probability of success here.

True - its a lot to give up from the Oilers perspective. But Skinner is the goaltender for the future in Edmonton not Campbell. This moves helps them to free up Campbell's cap space and it gives them a true #1 for the playoffs, noting that Goaltending has been an issue in the playoffs for a few seasons now... But it is a gamble and a high price to pay.
Giving up Campbell would not hold me back. Giving up the prospects might.

RE: Campbell. It is well documented that he had a rough regular season last year, but he looked much better in the Playoffs. His Play and numbers prior to this in Toronto were pretty good (hence he got the contract - career 910 save percentage). The reason I thought it could work for the Jets is that they will likely move on from and/or move Dillon and/or Demelo depending on their position at the deadline. I could also see them potentially buying out Schmidt after this season - depending on his play.
What would be your ask for Hellebuyck be from Edmonton (or other teams)?

In what planet would it make sense to give away the top 3 prospects in their very barren prospect pool, a 2nd/3rd line young player who will sign around $2mil, AND a first round pick - while adding about $9mil in cap hit and offloading $0 in cap space. You people live on PLUTO</div></div>
I actually agree. I didn't put the trade together and I don't think it works for either side. Boston would need to move out salary to take on salary. At the same time, it would not work for Calgary because the prospects are not strong enough either. It does not work for either side.

<strong>Every fan based is biased towards their own players on here (including Bruins Fans). </strong> This trade would not work for either team. But what is delusional is to think that a handful of "B" and "C" prospects would be good enough to acquire a #1 Center and a Top 4 Defender.
https://hockeyprospecting.com/2023/05/01/team-strength-rankings-may-2023/
Boston Ranks 32/32 in terms of NHL farm systems (...Calgary isn't great either). "As has been the case the last few seasons, the Bruins continue to have the worst prospect pool in the NHL. Not much there. It would be something of a miracle if the Bruins have a future star in their current pool"
