Cap Crunch
I guess my point was that Pearson, Sutter and Benn are much easier contracts to move than Eriksson, Beagle or Roussel or even Baertschi. They will have Edler and his $6 million and Baertschi $2.3 coming off before 2021-22, so they just need another $12 or 13 million. :)
I just don't see how you can sign Toffoli long-term.

I wasn't concerned with return on the trades or contract term. I just wanted to focus on the cap space and see what the options were for next season.

Salary Cap Crunch 8 Boston
My mistake, they actually save $1.025 million if they send Backes down, and are left with $4.975 million

They still get hit with the cap on Backes though, so that doesn't save them anything if Backes is sent down. I was guessing on Carlo's salary quite a bit, but Hockey Night in Canada was saying last game that McAvoy wants some pretty large cash, so they might have some issues moving forward.

He might still be on an entry level contract, so maybe not. *Edit*He burned his ELC because he is older than 24, so you could be quite right.

The fear for any team is being offer sheeted. It drives even the one or two year bridge deals up.

Yeah I don't see how they could have Karlsson back unless Thornton and Pavelski retire because they win the cup or something along those lines.

Agreed, but these are ballpark numbers and that has him at only 6 years. I'm not sure where Laine, Conner or Trouba will come in but they all will be high.

Leafs 2019-20
I don't think the Leafs will sign either Johnsson or Kapanen for under $4.1 million. The compensation for offer sheeting for less than $4.06 million is only a 2nd round draft pick.

Rebuild Season Five
I think the Canucks would have to overpay him for sure, but Trouba would come to Vancouver to be a top pairing d-man and be paid well. As much as Winnipeg doesn't want to believe they are in a cap dump situation with either Little or Perreault.
I think draft picks are a little overvalued. Why would two players who are in the NHL and performing not be worth at least a 2nd or 3rd round pick? Those picks are 12-25 percent to even make the NHL.

You could also say that Stecher, Virtanen, Baertschi, Horvat, Pouliot and Virtanen would be joining Sutter, Eriksson, Gudbranson, Beagle and Roussel as the veterans on the team.

yeah for sure. It's not taking into account any return on trading some of the likes of Edler, Tanev etc and possibly adding that element. I wanted to see where they'd be at before adding anything like that. They aren't as far off as I thought if they get relatively lucky in the top 5. It reminds me of the young Avalanche team just as they moved from Quebec. With Hughes, Juolevi and another top defense pick they are looking much stronger as well.

Sedin Brothers Retire?
If they come back for another season it will be for 4-5 million each, but you never know if it's a legitimate shot at the cup maybe they do cut a deal but I don't see it being anywhere other than Vancouver. They are big time family guys and the families are very settled into Vancouver, so that is probably the biggest consideration for them. Stranger things have happened...

I didn't add Virtanen to the deal as I didn't want to but it probably makes more sense to replace him with Anderson if the Canucks truly believe he's not going to be that 15-25 goal, crashing winger.

Sorry it wasn't meant to reflect deals right at the deadline but more of from now until then. But still pretty active for sure. More what I'd like to see than reality for sure.

Offer Sheet Draisaitl
I guess you need to decide if Draisatl is a complimentary player or one of the top five centers in the league that can carry a team? He's a very, very good player, but that is a huge salary along with a huge compensation package to give up

rebuild
Pretty sure they wouldn't expose Markstrom even if they re-signed Miller, but they would be foolish to sign Miller before exhausting all efforts to take one of the Dallas goalies and get added value for taking them. I also don't think they would move Virtanen for the 16th pick and give up the 33rd. His stock hasn't fallen that much and I agree with the first post that it's not nearly enough for Niedereter and question the need for him when the Canucks are 3-4 years out

Acquire 3 OA from Dallas - enough?
That is the price I see Dallas asking for in respect to that pick, but will teams like the Islanders be willing to pay it. I had the Canucks sending Tanev and Virtanen for the pick but also taking on Niemi and his salary.

Yeah true enough. They're not a team that cares about the cash outlay. I'll edit that deal, but was trying to find a landing place for Dorsett. Maybe just a buyout? I'll send Tanev for the first, Kapanen and Rychel
