Totally. Not like he led the team in PK TOI this year among forwards and had a nearly even offensive/neutral/defensive faceoff split or something. No defensive responsibility whatsoever.

Jackets are not trading young players for a 33 y/o Brock Nelson on the last year of his contract. Silly.

They eye test proved it too. Went up against the hardest opponent's night in night out and he played well.
Let's rephrase this from the MTL perspective. How pissed off were you when Caufield got his contract? He had what...120 games under his belt vs 97. They're both 2019 draftees. Being a defensive Dman is effort based, where scoring can be hit or miss. $4.6M per when the cap is increasing the way it will be is amazing.</div></div>
Not to mention put up more points than Korchinski who is supposed to be the offensive Dman. That comparison is not apples to apples but Vlasic improved on the offensive side as well.

What was the rush to sign him long-term???? Sorry but this guy is a 3rd pairing dman. Hate the risk to this.</div></div>
He already has some of the best defensive numbers out of all the dmen in the league. So not sure what about that screams '3rd Pair'.....

Hawks will just hang on to Guttman. Adding an overpaid 4C probably isn't what GM Kyle from Chicago meant when he said Hawks want to be better next season.

At 100 games played dmen are still developing. We'll see.</div></div>

PHNX podcast hinted (basically admitted) Schmaltz sandbags it. Maybe he might enjoy riding shotgun with Bedard without the pressure to win now. Kerfoot is a solid veteran scorer all situations guy. CHI could use some short term veteran contracts.

Woah this was a surprise to me, but a very good one! Very happy for him and the Hawks. He's a #1 LD in the NHL today after what was essentially his rookie year and that's extremely hard to find for 6 years $4.6M.

Fabbri also gets more ice time in Chicago, which kinda counters your less talented linemates claim.</div></div>
Hawks do want to get better. But there are far better options than Fabbri. He's a career 30 point per season player w/ persistent injury issues. Hawks will be looking for more impactful additions than Fabbri. UFA's like Marchessault, Bertuzzi, Tarasenko for the forward group. I'd actually be shocked if any team gave up a pick to acquire Fabbri.

Yes, this team could compete for a playoff spot.
A 4th to dump Hamonic is fair value. But can't see the Hawks being interested. They want to get better next year. Hamonic doesn't help with that.

Which isn't saying a whole lot. After Bedard and Kurashev, the offense of the Hawks was pathetic. And Fabbri wouldn't have the same level of production in Chicago as he did in Detroit because he'd be playing w/ less talented line mates.

2 Years From Now - The Kids Will be Alright
I think it all comes down to whether or not the Hawks need to take on a contract to reach the cap floor.
Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator places the cost of moving Mikheyev’s remaining contract (2 x $4.75m per) at a late 1st round pick.
If the Hawks need the contract to get to the cap floor then the 2nd round pick would probably be enough inducement to get them to take Mikheyev. If they don’t need the contract then I could see Chicago holding out for a 1st round pick.
