Better add a couple firsts to that deal lol. Just Barbashev alone will cost significantly more than that.

So brock for a 2nd round pick?? lol And you are asking for retention as well? Better take the dump of Johnsson off there and add a first round pick plus another piece. Maybe Van will pick up the phone then.

Chycren to tor
Arizona wont pick up the phone if Knies isnt part of the deal. Voit, Sandin and the first is not enough to get Chychrun by himself let alone Bjugstad. Kerfoot is a dump you would have to pay to get rid of. If you want both these guys AND want them to take Kerfoot off your hands, your going to have to add knies and another pick to this trade.

This is a massive overpay and the Leafs didnt even get the 50% salary retained. Take away Kerfoot and Topi and have arizona retain 50% of Chychruns contract, then you got a trade on your hands.

Actually I believe that is exactly what the offer would be. The leafs would ask for 50% retention with it. But Arizona might not give it to them. Likely they would ask to swap Sandin for Liljegren in order to get retention. But i wouldnt do that. The first, knies and Sandin is the package though.

Kerfoot is a UFA on a bad contract. He has negative value. They could keep him and resign him. But they could do that with any player on the junk pile and do it for free. Kerfoot is a 4th line nothing.

You have undervalued Domi with retention by a lot. Engvall and 2nd maybe. And make the Ari part of the deal to complicated. Benn and Anderson have 0 value at all. No point for them to be there. Kerfoot is nothing but a cap dump which you would have to pay to get rid of. Bjugstad and Gos with retention and WITH the kerfoot dump on top are worth more than a 2nd and 3rd. This trade is essentially a no from everyone.

Blues Leafs Rangers Trade Triangle
They arent just on the block they HAVE to go, just to ice a team. I think what I suggested is about what will happen. The only changes will be what they do at this deadline, and given the situation, I think Dubas will only make moves for cost effective guys with term. He cant afford to do anything else. Its going to cost them a second, maybe even a first round pick to move Murray if they have to do that.

Tavares has a full no move and will not be traded. He would never waive it. Nylander could be traded, only if Dubas and Co are let go. But trading Nylander for these guys is a net loss. The leafs need to make room for a 3-4m a year raise if they want to resign bunting. Holl is due to double his salary to around 4m per year or they lose him and have to find a replacement 20min a night D man for only 2m dollar (that doesnt exist) and they need to resign Samsonov who will likely get 3-5m per which is a raise of 2m at least. Holmberg needs a raise and so does Kampf, Who the leafs cannot afford and will lose to FA. At which point they will need a new third line C for only 1.5m (also doesn't exist). Just to keep the team they currently have, They need to find about 8-9M in cap space. Assuming the Leafs make no trade, as things stand now, they would have to let Kampf and Holl walk, replace Holl with Timmins, replace Kampf with Holmberg at 3C (at about a 1m a year raise), sign a new 4th line C at league min. Let Kerfoot AND Envall walk. Replace both of them with league min players. And then they would have just enough money to resign Bunting and Samsonov.

Lets be honest
This is the trade. Let's be honest. There are a few variations, but essentially this is it. I don't like it for TO because of the injury history. If I am Arizona, Im asking for this trade without retention. I am also saying if you want retention, we want Liljegren not Sandin. If Im Toronto, I'm trying to get this done without Knies. Say the First with Sandin and Liljegren instead. Which isn't really great either. Arizona wont pick up the phone unless Knies is involved. And if I am TO, I am not giving both him and Liljegren. If its Knies, it has to be Sandin. In the end, the retention is the sticking point. But essentially this is what it would have to be to make it work. With no injury history its a good trade. With the history, I just dont think its a good idea. I think the Leafs needs a cheap FWD in Knies for next year more than they need a D man who only plays 50 games a year.

This is a massive overpay for TO. I wouldn't trade the 1st straight up for Oreilly. I might consider taking oreilly with 50% retention for the first IF the team had already made a separate move to sure up the D first AND didn't lose knies in the process.

Leafs will not give up their first for a rental. Any trade involving their first or Knies would need to give them a player with term back.

No, thats an opinion. And one that isn't shared by the hockey community in general.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>No it's not. Value is actually pretty close. Chychrun is a first pairing defenseman Nylander is a 2nd line winger with questions about his compete level and who's contract isn't bad but is very far from being "one of the best value contracts in all of hockey". It's funny you think Chychrun only looks good because he's on a bad team when it actually works the other way around he'll be even better on a good team.
And Arizona has not publicly announced they've lowered the asking price again. It's still the equivalent of 3 firsts.</div></div>
First, Google "chychrun asking price lowered" and you will find every hockey media outlet saying that they have. For almost 2 month the price has been lowered. Sept 6th is the first time i've seen it mentioned in an article. Nylander is a first line winger all day. It was reported by one of the TSN guys that Nylander for JT Miller straight up was rejected by the Leafs and the panel agreed that Nylander is clearly the better of the two players. He will get over 8m + long term on the open market.

No. It's just a fact. I understand people think Chychrun looks good on the ECHL Coyotes, but he is a 3-4 D man. Nylander is one of the best value contracts in all of hockey. ARI has already publicly announced they have lowered the asking price on him and he still hasn't moved. Meanwhile his only value, his contract, just keeps ticking away. The longer they wait, the less value he has. As soon as this contract ends, he is just another overpaid D man.

Alot crap doesn't equal nice things.
Also seems like Buf might have made some strides forward, not sure why they would take a few steps back.</div></div>
Interesting. Kerfoot and Tuchs numbers are very comparable. Holl is as much a "top 6" D man as Lyubushkin. (hint, neither of them are top 4) and starting goalie? He had 30 career games with closer to a 4 GGA in the NHL than 3...He isnt even really a backup. He's a third stringer. And he is 27. In 5-7 years, when BUF has rebuilt, will he be the answer? I doubt it.
