Lehky and Kulak for first
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>Thats what you think. Putting forth a bunch of ad hominems isnt an argument. Its been widely reported that is the price then you look at the market. I've seen way too many ridiculous offers here for Lehky like a 3rd and a depth goalie. He's a 26 year old 2nd round pick with metrics in the top 10 for LW in the league, and team controlled. There's no reasons other than bias why ppl are selling him low</div></div>
You're right, it's not an argument. It's an opinion. I don't think anyone should spend a first for the guy.
As for why, because he is 26 year old mid-6 winger, scoring at rate of 30 points per year, and is in for a raise. This year is an outlier on that, and I'm not in favor of paying to outliers.
Normally mid-6 players that warrant a 1st round pick in return either have an extremely cheap contract or they have term. Neither of those apply to Lehkonen.
If they don't want to move Lehkonen for nothing less than 1st+, then they should keep him. I don't think it's a bad course of action for them, he's doing well for himself in there right now.

Do you really feel that way after the Hamonic trade?
Report out of OTT that Kassian is a player of interest, so why wouldn't they get their guy for a pending UFA they don't intend to sign?

lol trading Smith “within the division” doesn’t mean a whole lot. He’s an below average 2C/really good 3C who’s a UFA. It’s not like you’re trading a young, elite dman or centerman who’s going to haunt you for the next decade haha
I see how the value isn’t great for VGK in this deal, but they do need cap space for Eichel so it’s not a crazy proposal to think they may slightly lose a deal.

Good point. Oilers definitely would be interested in moving 2 of their top 3 prospects and arguably our top goalie prospect for a 35 year old who has had 4 or 5 major surgeries over the years. Definitely realistic

Edmonton declines. At the very minimum Yamamoto shouldn't be included... I don't think you understand the negativity surrounding this player. Why are you giving up any assets at all for him? If SJ wanted to retain 50% and throw in their 1st you'd have to consider it, but I'm not sure they'd have many takers even at that.

Mantha
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grievous</b></div><div>He has never scored 30 and is frequently injured, so he comes with certain risks. At 26 he is at his peak, but he is not an elite NHL goal scorer. Bottom line, I am not trading Holloway for him, I'd rather try for Filip Forsberg who is apparently available, is the same age, has scored almost twice as much as Mantha, and would likely also be easier to acquire.</div></div>
I agree.
<a href="/users/SweetRevenge19" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@SweetRevenge19</a>
Lavoie is the prospect equivalent to Mantha, not Holloway. Big, good skater, great shooter, not very impactful in other parts of the game. Holloway is a much more complete player and since he'll probably be in the NHL next September, this trade doesn't make much sense for the future.
Buying out Neal costs the Oilers just $1.9m in cap space, I don't think it's worth giving up a 1st for just $1.9M - especially when they aren't cap-strapped this summer. I've made lots of AGM's with the Oilers keeping Neal AND adding marquee UFA's, so there's no pressure at all to make this kind of deal.

He should be asking in a range of 5-5.5M honestly, but for obvious reasons he won’t.</div></div>
Based on the way he's playing this year, 7 x 7 would be a steal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>If Edmonton doesn't have a good season, I would be surprised if RNH stays. If they were to miss the playoffs, he will have spent 10 seasons with the Oilers and only 2 post season appearances.
If the Oilers do well, I could absolutely see him staying though. It's just a matter of, do the Oilers want to pay him north of 7? I think he could easily get the Kevin Hayes deal on the open market.</div></div>
Current reports are that Holland is at $6.75M and not budging. I support this.
Nuge is a really hard guy to get a read on - he's either played with crap teammates (with middling results) or with superstars (with good-to-great results). Which player is he? I think it shows that he's a competant player who can't carry weak linemates and compliments high skill very well. Not a driver... that's not a guy you want to go anywhere near $8M into his mid-30's with. Bit of a catch-22 though, as I don't like the options if he decides to sign elsewhere. Hall could be a fit but is injury prone and will be more expensive (without necessarily bringing more production), after that there aren't a lot of good replacements. Ovechkin, Landeskog, Schwartz and Tatar likely resign with their current teams, that leaves guys like Saad and Hoffman. Meh.

The Best Deployment
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grievous</b></div><div>Having 2 poor defensive forwards on the 3rd (or any line) is a recipe for disaster. Hating Kassian's game right now. Reminds me of his first 20 games in 2018, he was brutal. I'd prefer PRuss over him right now, to me Kassian is the 7th best RW on the team, 8th if you add Neal - Neal seems to score his goals from or coming from the Right side I've noticed.
I agree on Barrie, but when deployed with CMD or Drai, it minimizes the risk and pushes Bear down to anchor 2nd pair with Jones.
KRusty, you are correct forgot about that
Agree on goalies, but would be interesting to see Grosnick start vs Sens next week to see where his game is at. Surely he is a superior option to Skinner....</div></div>
Nygard is hardly a defensive stalwart though...
Nurse-Barrie have combined for a 35.00 xGF% and 15.38 HDCF% so far - and that's with McDavid and Draisaitl.
Nurse-Bear have combined for a 61.93 xGF% and 65.15 HDCF%. That's worlds apart.
Based on past history Grosenick should be a clear upgrade on Skinner, maybe he gets a start vs Ottawa. I'm expecting Smith to be back for the Tuesday game though (and probably start), so I wouldn't be surprised to see Koskinen start the Saturday and Monday games. There are 3 games in 4 nights next week (and 4 in 6) all on the road, so a backup will certainly get one start. Grosenick in if Smith isn't ready to go on Tuesday is my guess.

Best Possible Line-Up
Yea I generally agree. Jujhar out of the lineup is a must. I am a huge fan of McLeod and really think he needs his extended shot now.
Koekkoek has been a really nice surprise. He does his job extremely well. However, moving him out of the bottom pairing is always a risk. As we saw with guys like Benning and Russell, you move them up and they play more minutes, their flaws and mistakes are really evident. Its not really that big a deal in this case though, since that bottom 4 pretty much plays similar minutes, with Barrie getting his PP looks and Koekkoek and Larsson easting PK minutes.
I agree Ennis should be on the 3rd line and Archibald on the 4th. Ennis has more offensive potential and is less physical. Archibald is a great energy and PK guy. Playing him on the 3rd line with Jesse thus far has been tough. Archibald doesn't help them keep extended offensive zone shifts going. a little bit of a buzzkill.
I think they should really give Puljujarvi a look with McDavid. He's looked really good so far, but a lot of his chances are individual efforts. He doesn't really have a setup guy are anything. Its tough to change McDavids line after he puts up a hattrick, but hopefully soon JP gets a fair look. Kassian hasn't really done a whole lot up there, and I think he is best served on the 3rd line, with the ability to move up and down for shifts. But having said that, Kassian seems to pout a play really carelessly when hes not with McDavid. Not really an easy choice to make.

Edmonton needs a reliable 3rd G, see what happened to the Avs? Skinner will be the #2 in the Bake and that is fine, goalies take forever and Skinner has more work to do.
Wells is as much of a suspect as a prospect, he will be out of the org next year and should be in the ECHL along with rookie po Rodrigue.</div></div>
Fair enough. I suppose it is too much to expect a Skinner - Wells/Rodrigues tandem in the AHL being successful. I'm sure Forsberg will keep Skinner more competitive at any rate, and ya it does provide more depth overall at the position in case of injury. Pretty much seals him as the #3 with Smith's contract. Koskinen - Smith here we go again.

They really missed their opportunity to secure their position in net. Probably one of the teams that really got screwed by the changes removing the negotiation window before free agency. In other years they'd likely have known ahead of time that they were out on Markstrom and would have been able to change directions. In this case bu the time the decision was in for Markstrom, most of the big names in net were scooped up.
