KREIDER ONLY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McGruff</b></div><div>I don't see Kreider's rental upside or "X-factor" for a couple of months exceeding the trade package offered.
I missed the Palmeri offer but think he's a better target...</div></div>
so what if the same package is offered by the Bruins for Palmieri? I think it may be an overspend - I don't like giving a 1st round pick for Palmieri without having Backes go the other way as well.

With the Palmieri trade deleted, do you think the Kreider trade is at value?

Backes rumoured to be injured
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jasalex</b></div><div>LTIR allows you to go over the cap by as much as the contract. However at the end of the year if you are over the cap any bonus money comes out of next years cap space. That is why Tampa traded Callahan even though he will not play. Ottawa has plenty of cap space so they took advantage of a trade.</div></div>
Per Cap Friendly the B's have potential bonuses of $2,352,500 this coming season. If all performance bonuses are achieved and Backes remains on LTIR all season, the B's will incur a penalty of $2,352,500 next year when both Beletsky and Seidenberg come off the books?

Backes rumoured to be injured
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Weezley</b></div><div>I believe his AAV doesn’t count against the cap for the time he is on LTIR. There are also zero penalties for it.
Edit: I’m wrong. It does and the LTIR sounds quite complicated so I didn’t bother to read past after I was proved wrong.</div></div>
So in the scenario above, if Backes is placed on LTIR and remains there all year, the B's will incur a salary cap overage penalty next year of $6,000,000 less this years cap space of $3,278,334, or $2,721,666? That figure does not include any potential bonus penalties. Some relief will be had for the expiration of the Beletsky and Seidenberg costs (approx. $3M)

Maybe
There is no cap room when Moore returns from LTIR even if two of your 3 scratches are traded/demoted. 1 of the 3 would be presumably be the 13th forward. In any event, however enticing it may be to Melnyk, I don't think Ottawa will bite on anything less than a 1st rounder.

Ill take a Backes to go please
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>The Sharks are basically fresh out of wings, and draft picks. Ottawa doesn't want your cap dump, but after mortgaging everything to acquire Kane, Karlsson, and Nyquist, SJ might. <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/261952&post_id=1036317">https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/261952&post_id=1036317</a></div></div>
So if we trade Backes to the Sharks instead of Ottawa and retain $1M or $2M of his salary, the B's would still be better off. Would the Sharks bite?

Backes a P-Bruin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>when Moore gets back, demote Kampfer. Having 8 D isn't necessary. Trading Nordstrom is silly though. Hes a really good player on a really good contract.
Things are way easier around here if you use the "quote," function. that way the person you're quoting gets a notification, so they know that you responded.</div></div>
I'm new here - so thanks for the tip Bcarlo. I concur with your option of demoting Kampher at that time. I suspect however that there is a possibility of him being claimed through waivers. On the other hand we do have Vaak and Lauzon. What do you think is a decent term for Carlo and his $4m?

Backes a P-Bruin
As it presently exists there is cap space of $2,903,334 with Nordstrom and Miller traded and Moore on LTIR. If you demote Cehlarik then the cap space rises to $3,603,334. Adding Nordstrom's AAV of $1,000,000 reduces the cap space to $2,603,334 which is less than the AAV of Moore when he comes off LTIR. Someone on the roster would have to be moved to make room.

Every little bit of cap space counts. If Backes cannot be traded then you save $1M by sending Backes down and who knows, maybe he is picked up on waivers on the way down. The Providence solution saves you more than a buy out. If the concussion solution is in play then there is no need of course to trade Nordstrom as there would be plenty of cap space available as long as Backes remains on LTIR.

A Backes concussion is a great concept. I'm sure the cap has been circumvented in a much more egregious manner by other teams.

The $2M in cap space is set aside for Moore when and/or if he comes off LTIR.

Perhaps trade Ritchie instead of Nordstrom? $$$ are the same. If not Ritchie, then that only leaves Frederic or Cehlarik as it presently stands. The term for Carlo and can be modified.

If not Nordstrom, then who? Someone would have to go to create cap space. Just saying.

I think Ottawa would accept the deal if their retention was $1.25. As noted in previous posts no further sweeteners would be needed. to help offset the difference between the retention values of $3.25 and $1.25 ($2.00) perhaps the B's can unload Miller with an AAV of $2.50. Just saying. This post may actually have some legs to it; however I am on the fence about having to dispose of assets to take on a little more term.
