Hard to choose a B team. Very big pool to choose from. Who would you replace?

Like the Leafs under Burke, the Canucks, seemed to have a poor GM and a bunch of other hockey executives who were poor too, or just didn't have the authority to challenge Benning's decisions.</div></div>
He was a yes man who was only in his position because he told the owner what he wanted to hear, & continually took short cuts rather than developing the team the right way

Van declines. Dermott doesn’t do enough for them, and their not in the position to be giving away a 4th for a 7th for no reason. Schenn is cheap and is a good fit at the moment, not going to trade him unless it’s worthwhile

Full Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dpdan</b></div><div>The Boston deal isn’t as bad as it looks. Moore and Wagner are off the books after next year and can be buried in the minors for some cap relief (Boston is already doing that) and Vaakaneinen and Steen are low cost RFAs with potential. The level of salary retention would be the negotiable point of the deal and what buys any draft picks.</div></div>
Ya the fact that their deals expire next year makes it a bit better, but I still don’t think Rutherford wants all this cap retained on the books for so long when they’re literally looking for flexibility. When your retaining 2 m of a guy like OEL, who now have to find a top 4 guy to replace him for 5m just to break even and replace him while not wasting more cap on a bloated D. Hard to do. I guess that’s not the worst one of the bunch but it’s still not ideal imo

The Canucks aren’t trading Hughes or Pettersson. And that Boston trade is horrendous for Van. Taking back bad contracts while also retaining salary for the rest of OELs long contract. The only trades I think Van considers of the bunch is NYR, VGK, and FLA imo

What I am hoping it will be: Zacha + McCarthy for Garland</div></div>
Van won’t do Zacha+ McCarthy for Garland. Van has 0 reason to trade Garland unless it’s a deal they really like, because he’s on a nice contract, and that return is unlikely to be sweet enough for them to justify it

Ya I see your point. I think chytil and Kravstov definitely are risks but I also think they have untapped potential that may be worth it. But obviously it all depends on what the other offers are.

I’d personally rather have both those young players than Lundqvist. If Schneider is on the table I’d definitely go for him instead, but if he’s untouchable then I think you try and take a D at this upcoming draft instead.

Thoughts
I don’t think this is a great trade for either team. For Minnesota because of the cap implications already mentioned (altho as an FYI, because I’ve seen many people comment on Boesers QO, just because it’s at 7.5 doesn’t mean that’s what he signs for. In fact, most reports indicate he’s probably going to sign under that for more term) but I also don’t think it’s smart to deal Boeser right now anyways because his value is at an all time low. He has shown literally every other season that he can put up more production. If they were to trade him (which I still am not convinced they are, because he’s still young), it would be smart to do it when he’s closer to his career avgs (and he is trending that way), in which case he can bring in more assets

Don’t think he’s good enough. Brock brings more imo. Could probably get a mayfield level player without trading such a valuable piece to the team going forward

Cant resign Boeser anyways
While I don’t think the offer is necessarily terrible value-wise, I find a hard time believing Rutherford will pour more money into an expensive blueline that is already overpaid (unless they are able to trade some of the already existing guys away OR it’s a guy coming in that they really can’t pass up on) … and not only do I think the Canucks can resign Boeser, but I think they could probably work out a term deal that comes under his QO

Team Cap Dumps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>I think he's shown that he's a top-3 defenseman on this team and league wide probably solid top-4. 6M isn't terrible for that. I think the popular trend is just continuing from his first 2 years where he absolutely was a cap dump. Similar thing is happening with Pearson.</div></div>
It would definitely be hard for him to come back from how he started his tenure in terms of changing perceptions, but I still think even now on most playoff teams he’s not playing in the top 4. His decision making still isn’t great, and still makes plays that you wouldn’t want a top 4 d to make (just look at the gaff he made vs the NYI yesterday), while also still not putting up nearly enough production. To put him in a position to be most successful, I think he’s 3rd pair with pp2 time. Probably around 3.5m. Just my opinion! I agree with the Pearson sentiment tho!

While I can’t speak for the author, it doesn’t seem to serve as a serious trade, but rather, based on the title, (which includes "LOL”) really just a list of players they want to see gone from the roster. As someone who’s watched every game of Canucks hockey this year, I think the list is pretty spot on!
