This is wild. They think he is the same the player he was 6 years ago? Also don't forget he is a finesse dynamic player; has always been a complete liability on defense. I can hardly imagine how he can fit in their system. This is either a massive failure or Waddell is a genius.

This is kind of a high risk high rewards, but I do like it for Carolina, could add a lot of offence to the team.

Kuznetsov has been a tirefire this year. If he becomes a positive player, it will be one of the biggest turnarounds in NHL history. Washington is gifted $3.9 Million In cap space.

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
Wow. This is an absolute fleece job by Carolina. I like Koivunen a lot, Lucius is solid, and Ponomarev is alright, but this is Jake freakin' Guentzel we are talking about. Pittsburgh doesnt even get a 1st unless Carolina makes the SCF. Feels like Dubas could've done so much better, guys like Morrow or Blake or Nadeau would've been far more fair.
For Carolina, this is the superstar they have long wanted. Guentzel is one of the best wingers in this league, and they didnt even have to give up any of their best prospects to get him. Excellent addition and he will thrive in Carolina.
For Pittsburgh, I already mentioned I really like Koivunen and I think Bunting next to Crosby will be very fun, but man this is underwhelming. I doubt Ponomarev or Lucius become much more than bottom 6ers, and they arent really guys you want to kick off your rebuild. This is going to be a tough pill to shallow for Pens fans who rightfully expected much more for a guy who gave his all to the organization for years.
The real winners here are NHL fans who are thrilled Vegas didnt land Guentzel. Heres to hoping they strike out on Buchnevich as well!

(CGY/PHI/VGK) - Hanifin for for Miromanov, 2024 5th (VGK), 2025 1st (VGK), 2025 3rd (VGK)
Conroys streak of questionable trades continues. Trading Hanifin was a prime opportunity for the Flames to recoup some good futures, but they somehow managed to completely blunder the trade of one of the best players on the market. I guess the 1st isn't bad, although at this point it'll probably be 32nd overall and I do like Miromanov, but that just isn't enough. This is down right horrible for Calgary, and to make things worse they settled on this with a divisional rival...
For Vegas, this is a move that propels them even further towards the Cup. The idea of pairing Hanifin with Pietrangelo is terrifying. He's still got so many years of good hockey left in him, and it seems like Vegas will be able to get him re-signed. I already felt bad for any team in the west that has the misfortune of coming across Vegas in the playoffs, and it's even scarier now that they've bolstered their already stacked blue line while also still having room to add another huge asset. It's already game over for the rest of the league, we better hope the Knights don't land Buchnevich or Guentzel. Must be so nice having a front office that is just flat out fantastic.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios</div></div>

The Leafs were crazy to trade Sandin in the first place. They complain how they don't have defence and then trade a 23 y/o top 4 D for 20 games of Erik Gustafsson and Easton Cowan (who does look great, hope he works out).</div></div>
We're complaining about the other side... Our lefties contain: Rielly, McCabe, Brodie, Benoit, Gio, Lagesson, Lajoie, Riafali whereas our right contains: Lilly, Libby (A week ago it was just Lilly)

He's regressed a little from last season with a minor drop in both his points and his on-ice goal differential. It's not a serious issue, but at his age, he should be producing more each year.
A LOT of people here are saying this will age well, but it needs to age well, because if he were being paid this much this season it would be too much. If he regresses again, then this contract will look really bad.
On the other hand, the cap is going up and there will be a ton of very silly contracts handed out, so this likely won't be the worst of them.

I was so crushed when Sandin was traded to the Caps, he was my favourite prospect to follow for years and was a ton of fun with the Leafs. I'll never forget the giant reverse hit he threw on Blake Wheeler.
This is a fantastic deal for the Caps, Sandin has the potential to be something so special and the Caps just bought up moat of his prime years for less than 5m. Such a good contract

LTIR GODS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>I'm not sure what you're trying to say, do you think it will be a problem for the Wild? They won't be able to make a splash at free agency (thank god), but they're actually in better shape next year than they were this year so they'll be fine. Faber and Rossi being productive roster players has really helped. Assuming they either go with Wallstedt as their backup or a cheap veteran, having around $4.5m in goaltending will help compared to the ~$7m they have this year, as well as the projected cap increase.</div></div>
How Tampa, who would be trying to utilize LTIR space, would afford Hartman's extension next season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>I guess the only consolation for LA is that they're the best team in the league now.</div></div>
Cam Talbot is having his best season since his rookie year. If he slips to his career average, or is injured, then LA is in trouble.
But back to PLD, his point-per-game average is close to the lowest in his career and his on-ice goal differential is 7.5 below expected. According to The Athletic, his market value is $4.0 million, less than half of what he's being paid.
