Necas trade
If Necas is traded for a defenseman I hope it is for a righty not a lefty. There's also no way the Canes pay Guentzel 10/year for 8 years, so if that is his asking price they will just let him walk and re-sign Necas with that money.

Change In the House of the Sharks
Kuznetzov would probably be traded to be bought out, after July 1st when the signing bonus is paid so it is only 4 million in real dollars over 2 years. Marleau @ 6 million was a first, Bailey at 5 million was a second, so Kuznetsov at 4 could be a third?

I like Chinakhov, but the Orlov-Boqvist swap is pretty unnecessary. Boqvist is just "we have Tony DeAngelo at home".

Tavares and Marner don't waive, but Canes also aren't trading what should be max 8 mil in cap on the Canes for 11 mil and needing a new defenseman.

I mean even if that's an overpay for Andersen (which I think it is), Canes decline because they still need a starting goalie.

Hronek for Necas
I think the contract asks would have to be reversed, or at the very least both asking for 7.5 for the Canes to accept. They should just keep Necas if he signs for that price

Keep Guentzel and Trade Necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlafCaufZuki</b></div><div>My logic here was that Harris plays like a veteran. He's not flashy, but he almost never does mistakes and he's smart. He's also a great community guy and he's very eloquent. He seems as someone who's a good fit with their core. I signed Martinez in case he doesn't gel well with Morrow.
You can keep both of them if you don't re-sign Turbo and you buyout KK,, but the cap would be extremely tight. This allows you to be more flexible cap-wise and it would give the Canes room to use their draft capital to improve up front at the deadline.
What would be a fair trade for Necas from the Habs then? 1st + Mesar + Harris?? I know Necas isn't worth the moon either but he's a young productive player so he's definitely worth way more than a first.</div></div>
Necas' trade value is somewhere between Reinhart and Fiala (1st and good prospect), with the caveat that neither situation is particularly comparable. Buffalo trading Reinhart was a reset to their rebuild, and Minnesota was gaining 14 million in dead cap. The most likely scenario that Necas gets traded - in my opinion - is if he is packaged with picks for a replacement with term/team control, or a top 4 RHD to fill in after Burns retires. For these reasons the Canadiens aren't great trade partners; they aren't going to trade their young guys, their window is about to open.
I think the Canes front office has a number they are willing to give Guentzel, my guess is it starts with an 8, and probably for 5-6 years. He'll likely walk - see Trocheck, or Hamilton, and then they will have plenty of space to re-sign Necas if they so choose.

Keep Guentzel and Trade Necas
The two first is too much for Necas, he's not worth that - and the players would be of no interest to the Canes. I'm sure Harris is a capable LD, I'd rather pair a more veteran defender with Morrow while he gets adjusted to the pro game. I'm also not sure why the choices are keep Guentzel or trade Necas, when you can let turbo walk and keep the younger more dynamic player. Or bridge Jarvis, see if Guentzel takes less, and try to keep all 3.

Buffalo isn't trading Tuch unless it's an extreme overpay, he'll likely wear an A or potentially the C next year and is an important leader for the team.

Markstrom
Cory Schneider was 27 when he was traded, and posted a .927, .929, and .937 save percentages the three years before he was traded.
Markstrom is 34 if he is traded this offseason, and has had .892, .905, and .922 save percentages the past three years.
I don't see the comp at all?
Perhaps a better comp would be Marc-Andre Fleury to the Wild
Flower was 36 when he was traded. He had posted .905, .908, and .928 save percentages the three years prior. The return was a conditional second that become a first if Minnesota made the conference finals and Fleury had 4 wins in the first two rounds.
Or Cam Talbot to Ottawa for Filip Gustavvson
Talbot was 34 at the time of the trade and had recorded .911, .915, and .919 save percentages the previous three years. Gustavvson was a recent second round draft pick. I don't know team's prospect pools well enough to give a comparable player, but let's assume it's a second.
The market rate for good, aging goalies seems to be right around a second. Not a top 10 pick or a team's best prospect.

Mammoth is one of the better names for the new team I think - this would be a mammoth steal by Carolina.

This years Kevin Fiala
Necas could be moved to make room for Guentzel, although they can still afford the two of them with a weaker blue line. I still have my doubts that Guentzel will end up signing in Carolina - Tulsky et al have a valuation and max term they are going to offer, and Guentzel can get more on the open market, particularly in terms of contract length.
Jarvis is an arbitration ineligible RFA, so his contract will be dependent on what other signings/moves are made. If need be he can get a bridge deal at a lower AAV, but I can almost guarantee he won't be moved.

New LOOK
What has Bertuzzi done this year to earn a 30 million dollar contract? That seems like a mistake the moment it's signed. In a similar vein, why would Domi - who I would argue has been almost as good as Bertuzzi - sign a 10 million dollar contract for 5 years? He could almost certainly get a similar amount on a much shorter deal in free agency.

The Islanders would not trade Dobson and Barzal for a center who would not resign with them after trading their two best skaters.
That offer probably would have landed Guentzel, but I was under the impression that Podz was not on the table to be traded. Add on that Bunting has been better this year than Kuzmenko and is signed both cheaper and for longer. Guaranteed first is better than conditional though.

KK and Zegras
It's a bad deal for Montreal obviously, but if Carolina moves Kotkaniemi it will be for cap relief, so taking back a contract that is more expensive - even for the better player - doesn't make sense. This is especially true for a LHD - Matheson would be 3rd on the depth chart behind Slavin and Orlov.
